Plum, there is a thread on the cricket section of the forum (don't ask me why it's there) with a list of all the posters and the rugby teams they support.

I support the Springboks as my national side, the Sharks as my Super Rugby/Currie Cup team (with the Lions a clear second) and Wales is my second favourite national team.

The team I dislike the most is the Hapless Stompies/Western Province . . . mainly because nearly all their supporters are such massive d!ckheads.

I reckon the Bulls will have a better run this year Bulebok. You happy about the personnel changes happening? Burger Odendaal(spelling) impressed me last season, though he was a tad hot and cold. Jemba...he is still young and looks like a green and gold contender huh? Gonna be nice to see Hogie hopefully continue some of what they seemed to get going in the CC. Been a while since it was fun to watch a Bulls game. For a change both Lions and Bulls can restore a bit of pride to the highvelders. Haha Rooi. Gary Fkn Gold? I don't know how he does it. He gets worse and worse yet keeps getting better jobs.

I have a problem - I used to live in KwaZulu-Natal for 40 years and recently moved back to the Southern Cape - where I was borne and grew up.  Divided loyalties in that case.

Well Rooie given what you say about the hapless stompies and their supporters then its logical that babboon-ou would support them !Mr Plum I have been known to barrack for the Aussies when playing the Boks and England ,mainly because I played in an Australian army team back in the 80s.

Oh crap Mike. I think both your S15/18 teams are in for a rough one this season. What do you think about the Stormers chances? The Sharks need a miracle, hehe at least you have Bothma(spelling) :) Wardad, at least you are in the right hemisphere hey.

I am not a real supporter of any of the SA Franchises and like the lions team and coach very much.  However, insofar as the Stormers are concerned I was in a serious problem situation for years now.  The probably had near to the best forward combination of any of the franchises - but the backline was absolute BS with only one really effective backline player in their midst - namely De Allende
Coetzee as a coach was BS and he selected the worst backline players imaginable.  Kolbe and Senatla looked good when they get the ball in open play - but their defense was near to zero in effectiveness.  De Jongh was useless and  the Forces Reject - Leyds - an insult to the game of rugby.   Coetzee is clueless when it comes to backline coaching and it is no wonder that Eddie Jones had to be employed by White as a backline consultant in 2007 when Coetzee was supposedly the Springboks backline coach.
At the same time John Smit sent the Sharks team into chaos and their recovery is not on the cards.   White - as clueless as Coetzee as a backline coach - used Fat Fransie to sabotage the Sharks backline comprehensively.   To watch the Sharks and Stormersw team play in Super 15 last year was worse than to watch paint drying.
In the Super 15 and CC games this year I was effectively supporting the Lions - and to a much lesser extent the Bulls.   I was hoping that with the appointment of Jones the Stormers would select a more effective backline combination and use their backline more effectively.   However, that is not to be and I understand that De Jongh is leading a campaign to ensure that Mitchell is not appointed as coach.  Mitchell would not put up with the rubbish De Jongh brings to the game and the latter realizes that he is a goner when it comes to Mitchell taking over as Stormers  coach.
In effect I think the only logical SA Franchise team to support this year is in fact the Lions - with the Bulls also looking good from a backline perspective - their props in particular are not really up to standard.
So you are welcome to regard me as a Lions supporter - rather than the disasters at the Stormers and the Sharks.

Mike. I hear ya man. For me Kolbe gets a pass and becomes a scrummie or has to head to 7s. As much we like to think size isn't that important...it is. He get destroyed too often for my liking. I do think he could be a good scrummie though. He's got a decent boot on him too if I recall. That combined with his acceleration could be a winning combo at 9. Obviously that's just an opinion. The Stormers do have an embarrassment of riches up front. Two very good hookers, some world class props and their losses Duane/Nizam/Siyalo are all awesome. My fear is that if Coetzee now takes over the Boks we'll se Katra-penis get green&gold. Then we are in for another 8+ years of headboy Morne Steyn style fun. Please no. Haha cool man, everyone likes the Lions these days and dammit they deserve it. I notice a lot of love for Wales on here. I guess they re the most likeable of the UK 4. So it makes sense in some way. Hey thanks for all your answers. And sorry to rehash what has already been done.

It'll be bittersweet for the Lions but if it's a long term local coach we are after then I say go for it with Akkers and Cois. There are a lot of young guys who have come in and will come in now, and they'll be able to learn a lot from him. And if the team spirit he cultivated at the Lions is anything go by, well A++ from me. I dont care if he's green. Under Meyer, it always seemed to me there was an uncomfortable hierarchy in the side that was possibly a bit overbearing on the young guys and stressful for the older guys. Maybe misplaced responsibility or something. But there are guys on here who do know more than me and have been playing/watching the game for much longer. So I'll give Akkers my vote, but won't claim it's the perfect idea :) Actually if I could choose anyone...I'd go for Woodward. Lame huh!?

Haha! Sure Wardad. Here are some rules I'd like to put in place...to make them more succesful obviously... They shall all be covered in oil at tackling practice and have to wear no clothes...the benefits of this are obvious They shall have to have a C-cup or bigger for momentum purposes Many many many pillow fights so as to promote team building We shall personally have to massage every niggle into oblivion so that we know exactly how fit our team are Oh, and no boyfriends are allowed. It will cloud their judgement. We don't want this I will personally spank poor performers, repeatedly! :)

I dunno Mr Plum ,spanking you say ? Isnt corporal punishment a disproven way of administering discipline ? But then again bugger the academics ! I sorta picture it like when sir Galahad the chaste ends up in the naughty convent in     "Monty Python and the Holy Grail " I especialy like the bit that is supposed to follow said spankings in that convent .
