The coaching carousel is spinning once again in the world of rugby, and Jake White, the tactical mastermind behind the Vodacom Bulls' recent success, is eyeing a potential new gig at Leinster. With Leo Cullen set to depart at the end of the 2026-27 season, White is openly considering the prestigious role, likening Leinster to the "Barcelona of rugby." The Irish powerhouse's allure seems to be tempting enough for White to possibly throw his hat into the ring.

During a candid chat on the RTÉ Rugby podcast, White was asked about stepping into Cullen’s shoes, to which he intriguingly responded,

"Stranger things have happened in rugby, haven’t they?"

Reflecting on the unpredictability of his career, he added, "If you’d asked me a year ago if I was coaching the Bulls next year, I would have said yes."

White didn’t hold back in his admiration for Cullen, praising the outgoing coach's deep impact on Leinster. "It’s like coaching an international job," White remarked, underscoring the global stature and the demanding nature of the Leinster coaching role. He recalled advising Cullen at a coaching conference back in 2015, saying,

"Grab it, my mate, it’s a wonderful opportunity."

Clearly, White sees the potential Leinster move as more than just another job; it's a chance to lead what he considers the pinnacle of club rugby.

The former Springbok coach also commended the timing of Leinster's announcement regarding Cullen’s departure. White believes this advance notice could serve the club well, allowing ample time to integrate a new head coach alongside Cullen, ensuring a smooth transition. "They can now take their time," he noted, suggesting that this foresight could be beneficial for both Cullen and his successor.

As the rugby world watches on, the question remains: Will Jake White be the next maestro to take up the reins at Leinster? His track record and respect for the club certainly position him as a compelling candidate. Yet, as White himself hinted, in rugby, as in life, the future is never fully predictable.
