After a distinguished tenure, Leo Cullen has announced his decision to step down as the head coach of Leinster at the conclusion of the 2026/27 season. Cullen, who has been at the helm for twelve years, will see out his contract, ensuring a seamless transition while Leinster and the IRFU commence their search for a successor.

Cullen's journey with Leinster spans not just his coaching career but also his earlier years as a player, creating a deep-rooted legacy with the club. "By the end of next season, in 2027, I will have been in my current job for 12 years. It’ll also be 32 years since I first represented Leinster as a Schools player! So, I think the timing will be right for me to move on to a new challenge," Cullen reflected.

The upcoming season is pivotal for Leinster, with the team returning to Laya Arena. "We’re moving back to Laya Arena at the start of next season, and we can’t wait for that homecoming," Cullen shared, highlighting the significance of continuity and certainty as the team undergoes transitions, including player changes.

"We have a fantastic group of coaches, staff and players here and I know the club will do everything to ensure continuity and stability – two cornerstones of Leinster Rugby."

Leinster Rugby CEO, Shane Nolan, praised Cullen's contributions: "Leo has been a great player, coach and leader for Leinster and will always be held in the highest regard by anyone that has ever been fortunate enough to work with him." Nolan also noted the proactive efforts of Cullen and his coaching team as they prepare for the new season, maintaining the high standards that have become synonymous with his tenure.

As Cullen prepares for his final season, his focus remains sharp, driven by a history of success including seven trophies in 11 years, culminating in a brilliant URC Grand Final win. "And to my family, friends and all Leinster supporters a huge thanks also," Cullen added, acknowledging the support system that has been pivotal throughout his career.

Leinster is now tasked with finding a leader who can build on the foundation laid by Cullen. The search for a new head coach is underway, with the club committed to securing "the best possible candidate to continue the success of Leinster Rugby," ensuring that the legacy of excellence is carried forward.
