In a decisive maneuver, Scotland's head coach Gregor Townsend has unveiled his 36-man squad for the upcoming Nations Championship in July. The selection has sparked interest with the inclusion of two uncapped players, Glasgow Warriors' Gregor Hiddleston and Seb Stephen, who are poised for their first Test caps. However, notable omissions include British and Irish Lions Blair Kinghorn and Huw Jones, the latter sidelined by injury since April but reportedly close to a comeback, while Kinghorn will stay with Toulouse for their Top 14 title chase.

The squad, led by captain Sione Tuipulotu, is bracing for a challenging series of matches against formidable teams like Argentina, South Africa, and Fiji. Among those called up is Finn Russell, despite recent injury worries. His participation underscores the depth and resilience of the team, which also sees potential milestone caps for Pierre Schoeman, Scott Cummings, and Rory Sutherland this summer.

"It's a blend of experience and fresh talent, each player hungry to leave their mark on the international stage,"

Townsend noted, reflecting the strategic thought behind the squad's composition.

The squad's backbone is strengthened by seasoned players such as Ewan Ashman, Zander Fagerson, and Darcy Graham, alongside newcomers who are eager to prove their mettle. This mixture of seasoned professionals and promising new talent provides a balanced team dynamic, crucial for the challenges ahead.

Duham van der Merwe, also selected for upcoming Barbarians duties, adds to the squad's robust attacking options. His inclusion is part of Townsend's strategy to blend speed and agility on the wings with the power and grit of the forward pack.

The chosen squad is as follows:

Forwards: Ewan Ashman, Josh Bayliss, Magnus Bradbury, Gregor Brown, Scott Cummings, Rory Darge, Jack Dempsey, Freddy Douglas, Matt Fagerson, Zander Fagerson, Jonny Gray, Gregor Hiddleston, Will Hurd, Nathan McBeth, Liam McConnell, Elliot Millar Mills, D’arcy Rae, Alex Samuel, Pierre Schoeman, Seb Stephen, Rory Sutherland, Max Williamson

Backs: Fergus Burke, Jamie Dobie, Darcy Graham, George Horne, Rory Hutchinson, Tom Jordan, Stafford McDowall, Kyle Rowe, Finn Russell, Ollie Smith, Kyle Steyn, Sione Tuipulotu (c), Duhan van der Merwe, Ben White

This selection not only reflects Townsend's vision for a robust and dynamic Scottish team but also his commitment to nurturing new talent alongside proven veterans. The blend of youth and experience is set to ignite Scotland's campaign in the Nations Championship, promising a thrilling display of rugby.
