Fortunately the experienced Amla was there to anchor the innings.

Was the form of Du Plessis and De Villoers any better yesterday. Both were clean bowled with poor scores - so why concentrate on Markram and De kock?
Amla was extremely lucky to be not given out LBW four times and even though the replays showed that the sticks were hit ,marginally he was not out because the umpires did not give him out LBW. He could easily be out for less than 20 runs.
Now back to De Kock - there is a slump
in his form and everyone admits it, However he will get back to form
sooner rather than later. So stick to what you know something about
and that is definitely not form and performance.

De Kock is fatally flawed...movement is his nemesis.

Unlike you with your total addiction to experience I take a longer term view of players and am not a foe of anything younger than 30 years, I do not look at single incidents or single matches - that is a fatal misreading of the situation.
Lets take an example. Kallis was a total loss in his first ten tests and had a very poor batting average - yet the selectors stuck with him and he became a cricketing great. You cannot recognize potential even if it strike you in the face.
Before this test Markram had the second highest run-scoring record of all SA batsman after De Villiers in this series. His first real failure and you go on all-out attack. That is typical Mozart - bad news showing no longer term vision on players on your part.
Besides that you never realize when players should be replaced because of serial deficiencies. According to you the serious and constant failure on the part of "experienced" players should be ignored and never mentioned..
Another example issue is your constant attacks on De Kock He has lost form - but was a huge success in especially the shorter version of the game. In your initial attacks the theme was that De Kock cannot bat against the Ausie bowlers - yet one of his high number of centuries was against the Aussies in Australia. Next attack was he cannot play spin and when that went out of the window, now he cannot bat against against "movement:.
Players like Graeme Smith was to use your description fatally flawed against most bowlers - yet there never was a single negative comment by you about him. But that is the difference - "fatally flawed" is only applicable to players you do not like.
The other fact is that De Kock scored more centuries in ODI's than Snith did in his entire career and his batting averages in all versions of the game are higher than Smith's were. There is a difference - namely that he will be able to adjust since he is still young and will do so to eliminate his present deficiencies.
Get over your age mania and it is not befitting to base form on age alone.

Jan 26, 2018, 03:57I’m fine with continuing to try Markham.....he looks pretty good. I’m simply pointing out if we apply the same criteria we applied to Cook he would be gone.
As for Quinton he should probably drop below Philander until he can get his confidence back. His last three innings have been painful.

Jan 26, 2018, 04:27Hmm ....11 tests, 3 100s, 632 runs, average 33.26....not as good as Markham, but he wasn’t playing Bangldesh. And his 3 hundreds in 11 tests matches Quintie’s 3 hundreds in 28 tests.
