In the time where people feel threatened in their life there is a reaction of people using religion as a measure to assist them.

When the Communists in Russia took over in 1917 and started destroying the lives of the people - in the period up to the death of Stalin 52 million inhabitants were murdered by the State - they also tried to root out religion in fear of becoming  a means of opposition to their dictatorship, the ordinary Russians became more religious than they used to be. For the ordinary Russians going to church was like committing suicide and the people started to practice religion secretly.   When the Communists lost control - the church came to be one of the most important structures in Russian society and the controllers of Russian politics treat the Russian Orthodox church with utmost respect.

When there is no crisis in the life of people they tend to stay away from attending church giving the impression that they became atheists - but the situation changed recently with the coronavirus pandemic when people flocked back to religion as a  means to help them in their daily lives.   Initial surveys in various countries confirms the situation and nothing will change that,

The Communist Party of China currently a s 90.59 million members, making it the second largest political party in the world after India's Bharatiya Janata Party, since December it has cracked down on anyone talking about the coronavirus

When a brave doctor warned his peers online, he was summoned by police in the middle of the night and forced to write a “self-criticism” — a classic communist method of silencing dissenters that forces them to confess supposed crimes. When Chinese journalists wrote about the sickness, their work was censored. When average citizens took to social media to share the facts, they were silenced. Beijing did everything in its power to prevent the outside world from figuring out what was really going on.

Those wise citizens in China recognize their regime for what it is.Evil.

The CPC Party has members everywhere in their society reporting back to HQ any dissenters. These arseholes are hated and surely drive many to religion. The devil always looses in the end.

Tens of millions of Chinese now identify as Christians, and the number has grown rapidly, posing challenges for a government that is officially atheist and wary of threats to its power. No surprise oaks that the CCP are atheists as was Stalin, Hitler etc

So note there are more Christians than than CCP people!! Bet also the number of Chritians are growing much faster than CCP membership which after the Wuhan virus debacle will shrink.

China has witnessed a religious revival over the past four decades, in particular with a significant increase in Christian believers. The number of Chinese Protestants has grown by an average of 10 percent annually since 1979. By some estimates, China is on track to have the world’s largest population of Christians by 2030.

China is also the world’s largest producer of Bibles. In 2016, the Amity Printing Company, a joint venture between the Amity Foundation, a Chinese nongovernmental organization, and the United Bible Societies, printed its 150 millionth Bible, with one third of those coming between 2013 and 2016.

Underground house churches exist parallel to state-sanctioned Christian churches. These congregations operate outside the guidelines of the government, and their regulation by party authorities is largely determined by local leaders. Much like official Christian organizations, their membership is also growing across regions and demographics, according to surveys by independent polling groups. Fenggang Yang, of Purdue University’s Center on Religion and Chinese Society, estimates that there are between 93 million and 115 million Protestants in China, with fewer than 30 million attending officially registered churches . Other Christian organizations estimate a higher number still

Estimates of Catholic faithful in China range between ten million and twelve million.

There is a big difference between claiming to be a Christian ... and actually living as one.
The majority of "Christians" are as far from God as any atheist.
There are probably as little as 1 or 2 % true Christians the world over. The rest are hypocrites like BeanDip.
He puts his Christian hat on when it suits him.

I covered this in-depth on another thread...
Non-religious people are on average smarter and more ethically moral than religious people. This applies to Christians, Muslims, Jews and probably all religious backgrounds- when making apples with apple comparison

@Ceradunce,

We have all had the same Sunday school classes, and Bible class at school.
What I would like you to explain is:
1. Why is the statistical average of intelligence of Christians vs non-Christian favoured to the latter? (I.e. Non-Christians are on average smarter). Same applies to other religions.
2. Why is the statistical average of the morality of Christians vs non-Christian favoured to the latter? (I.e.  Non-Christians are on average better people). Same applies to other religions.

These points are worthy of debate, not an ancient book that was BC (before Christ) and AC (After Christ). The only sensible stuff in the Bible is from Jesus, but those morals rapidly deteriorated into the Book of revelations... (Fear mongering by the Religious to sell their after-life as an insurance policy).
Take for example the Jews, arguably the smartest group of people on earth. (At least as a statistical average). The smart ones are less religious on average.
The dumber ones (on average) believe that they are God's chosen people. They reject Christ as their saviour because they believe the true saviour will return to earth and make them kings of the world. Christians call Jesus the King of the Jews, but the Jews do not accept them as their king...

Muslims that are less religious are better than those are more religious. Religion is self-delusion. It is lying to one's self. Twisting a metaphorical text to your own needs, and if money is involved then do not even apply the limited set of rules you created for yourself from a primitive text.

Have you got any proof for that garbage you spout now?    Why not react to what I said above?

Do you think a Muslim/Arab who is not religious is a better person than one who is? (or a person of religious descent)
Do you think a Jew who is not religious is smarter than a non-religious Jew? (Jewish religion descent)
If you can answer those questions, let's talk further...

I did not make the sucker statements - you did,  What I think is having an openminded approach to factual situations  - not the garbage you thrive on,

Let me explain - I am not interested in both your questions because it is not based on any specific study at all.   One of the cleverest Muslims I came across with  and is friend of mine is deeply religious and so is others of the top Muslim business fraternity in KwaZulu-Natal.  I have no real statistics to answer the theoretical BS you thrive on and neither have you.

You met "1" person, that is not a representative sample, and therefore not scientific or objective.

I am talking about statistical averages. You know that I am right - that a non-religious Jew is a smarter and ethically a better person (as a statistical average).
I am sure the non-Western world feel the same about non-Christians being better.

@CleverMike if you were transported to Iran and had to live in their country, would you rather spend your time with religious or non-religious people of Arab/Muslim decent?
It is very simple, look at other religions that are different to your own, and you can see that their non-religious are smarter and more ethical than the religious ones.
I am talking about statistical averages, not individuals.
Like I mentioned before the smartest group of people as an average is probably Jews not born in Israel. And you guessed it, most are athiest.
