I know it's difficult for if you are like me there must be at least 25 I am undecided on, depends on mood or most probably a lot more. But I'm isolating in to pop only as I'm also a big fan of classics, if not more so and apart from Mike and maybe Mozart, I don't think there are others.

But only Pop/Rock. Ballads.

Mine are 1) The Boxer... Simon and Garfunckel and 2) Handle with care...Travelling Wilburys

I have a dream -  ABBA

Sweet Caroline - Neil Diamond

A lot of good music came in the 1060's and 70's - eg from ABBA and Neill Diamond.   O am also a fan of Elvis Presley.

However, my real favourites are Nessam Dorma - by Luciano Pavarotti and The Radetsky March - sung by the Vienna Boys Choir.   You can find both on the internet.

I have the right to indicate music that I found of value and that is what I did.  Some songs and lyrics remain short term  favourites - but a year later are already forgotten.   Through the centuries - and that include the 20th century - there are some songs that would even be popular a hundred years from now.  Those are popular on a longer term basis - whether people like it or not.

In the main I like music with tones.   The Beatles used excerpts of compositions of Tchaikovsky and use their own lyrics in the process  try Bianca for one of those

But Pavarotti is the greatest male voice of the last 100 years......effortless, except sometimes in the low ranges. The greatest human voice is probably a soprano....and the closest thing to a musical instrument is Edita Gruberova singing Bel Canto. Find one of her early recordings of Casta Diva from Norma and expand your horizons.

Bocelli is a great story and he has fine voice, but more towards the popular spectrum.....more of a Mario Lanza than a Pavarotti. No Woman No Cry is a contender.

Whether it's old or not Chips, is not an issue, if it's good it remains good and yes the seventies and eighties were the best years for popular music, most music lovers will agree to that, not the garbage they now roll out.

Cloudy that Simon and Garfunckel "Hello Darkness etc" is Sounds of Silence, yes it's one of my favourites too.

Mike and Mozart, yes cannot fault any of those and yes I enjoy all of those too.

It's actually very difficult if not impossible to put them all down...it depends on the setting and mood at the time.

I enjoy folk and traditional a lot too. Love military marches too and the pipes. Cannot help it, Scots and Irish blood in genes.

Pavarotti, Bocelli, Mario Lanza as tenors and Dmitri Hvorostovsky baritone no question some the best music ever sung. Also are crazy about Andre Rieu's concerts, Bolero being a favorite.

But classics is too vast and needs a catergory of it's own. It is indeed superior music.

Sorry Seb, I disagree.

In the seventies and eighties, only record labels produced artists.

Right now, there is way more music being produced, so there is a lot more bad music but also a lot more good music.

Also, unless you've taken part in the club scene since house music and it's many sub-genres have come about, then you've missed a large part of musical evolution.

One such example is Dub-step. It would blow your mind, without a single lyric. The use of combined and varying frequency, given a powerful enough speaker, allows you to literally be touched by the music. Much of it is created with that in   mind.

Horses for courses

I prefer it to the original, all depends on what style of music you prefer.

David Bowie would be the peak of the 70's

By the way who is angry A nderson?

Heroes is his best song, I prefer the original video clips with the studio version. One thing that bugged me with Bowie (but the man is a legend so he is allowed to) is his live preformances he changes the song in small ways.

But Suffragete City, Space Oddity, Starman, Ashes to Ashes, Diamond Dogs, Spiders from Mars , Changes etc etc etc is just music I could listen to all day every day.

Sting, Chippo? Really? I know it is a matter of personal choice but I personally would not put him in the same league as Knopfler, Collins and Clapton.

I would also not even class Clapton as purely a rock or a pop star either. In fact, I would say that Clapton is actually primarily a blues artist in the mould of a BB King. Check this out:

Flash.

Yes I have many times. That still does not convince me that Sting is, once again IMO, one of the best rockers/pop stars ever. That is what  Chippo said and which I’m questioning. I also haven’t said that he is wrong. I just do not agree with him.

FFS, I may even be wrong for all I know.
