Plum each of my paintings is a mathematical problem solved. It’s just ordinary calculus, not too complex….doing the painting is challenging enough.

I chose bright colors as a sort of contradiction, but it actually works when you hang them. And oddly, people seem to like  them and a few get caught up in the mathematics.

Just a little winter project a few years back but one dealer asked if I would be interested in a selling exhibition. I got the idea because I always thought the illustrations in mathematics text books are interesting.

Cool first effort on your part.

Looks like highschool technical drawings...engineering students struggle with it more than engineering calculus in the first year..."ruimte meetkunde" was the Afrikaans term...cant recall the English term...autographic projection or something

Well I've never seen anything like it, Moz, and it's a great idea to put the equation there too. I'd be tempted to insert an intentional error somewhere. Just a little thread that will forever bug the discoverer. Did he mean to make this mistake? How, when everything else is entirely accurate? Maybe it is just a mistake? Why? Why that error? What's the value of the missing variable? Does it mean something? Nah, it's probably just a mistake... As a math guy, if you came across a painting like that, and there was a small but clear error present...what would you think? Lets say you knew nothing about the artist... Not off topic at all, Draad.

Might try that if I ever do some more Plum. If it was Warhol the painting with an error would be worth ten times as much. Draad those are the kind of illustrations that made me think they could be turned into art. And I have seen work that goes in that direction, but I haven’t seen anything where the equations are actually revealed

There are thousands of examples that could be developed and to be honest, executed more professionally.

WithTechnical drawgs, we use less equations...you use tools, to do calculations graphically...compass, triangles...etc...similar to the small math sets in the tin cases we used at school...the masons of old can teach you some neat tricks with plum bobs, tape measures and builder's line.
