Do you think it was acceptable that Obama used to spy on Merkel? Do
not feel alone - they spied on the American citizens as well,
Remember Edward Snowden 0 he exposed the whole system and had to flee to
Russia to be safe. However, Mertel in one of her remarks said it
was childish and she did take counter-measures that did not benefit the
USA at all.. The easiest of those were to cut the budgetary allocation
for NATOm because the USA would be forced to find the resultant
shortfall.
No I don't think its acceptable for either side to spy on the other unless but I'm not naive to the fact its what happens, even among allies.
Germany didn't cut its defense budget but say they had and even if say it it cut it to zero and America took over that contribution America still won't be funding even half of NATO and again even if Germany did cut their defense budget the United States was not obligated to cover any shortfall. I believe the US contribution is already capped at 22%. And finally the other NATO member states would of all be angry with Germany for doing so.
"I had a look at the document issued NATO during the years between
2012 and date and it was clear that in the years up to 2014 the
European and Canadian contribution was way below what it should have
been and the same applied in the years before 2012. In 2015 Trump
threatened to take action of he is selected and the graph showed that
for the first time in years the contribution was above the zero level.
Trump did threaten NATO members with withdrawal of troops from
Europe and the underfunding of NATO was implemented in 2017."
You can argue that many European states and Canada where not contributing enough to NATO and you would have a point. However the idea that a threat from a Presidential candidate to take action if European NATO member didn't increase defense spending is extremely dubious considering few leaders gave Trump any chance of winning the election. As far as I'm aware what Trump got was merely reassurances that NATO members would increase their funding to meet their already agreed upon 2% GPD spend on defense and even at that several nations like Germany will not achieve that till after 2024.
Not
according to the graph provided by NATO - by 2016 for the first
time the contributions wemt above the zero level - the war in Ukraine
was over by then,
The fighting may have stopped by 2016 but Russia still occupies Crimea and parts of Eastern Ukraine. Russia remains a substantial threat to Europe.
" Trump being unpopular amongst EU leaders is understandable because
for years the European countries screwed the USA in all possible ways
imaginable and got away with it, Jut think of the way the USA had to
protect the oil trade if the EU countries with the ME because they and
no means to protect it themselves, Germany and a host of other
countries are dependent on Russia for gas and oil needs and the
undermine the sanctions that they want the USA to apply to Russia 0
while they undermine the sanctions through the gas and oil trade.
What are you talking about the USA protecting oil trade? Are you referring to the when the US occasional invades middle eastern countries, I thought that was to liberate the people from tyranny?
As for being dependent on Russia gas and oil, yes Europe is quite dependent on it and their is arguments within Europe itself that it needs to diversify supply, possibly from the middle east. Securing it from the US would likely be too expensive compared to Russia and the middle east due to distance, and the their is also some in Europe would not like to be beholden to the US for both defense and gas supplies. There is also the argument that the Russians are as much dependent on Europe as Europe is on Russia, as if the Russians ever did switch off the supply of gas into Europe the loss of payment for the gas from the rest of Europe would devastate its economy. But yes it does somewhat undermine the effects of sanctions as oil and gas are a major part of the Russian economy but its not the whole economy and it doesn't mean European sanctions are ineffectual in targeting others aspects of the Russian economy of individuals within Russia.
There ere serious questions about the Paris Climate agreement and the
fact that it in practice produced nothing at all. Even without the
applications of a treaty emissions in the USA was drastically reduced
from 2016 until 2019 without damaging the US economy. Some people love
treaties of a theoretical nature - but the countries like China and
India contributing more to air pollution than the West did, will not
implement anything to their economic detriment. The Treaty with lots
of high words and zero in contributing to reduction of air pollution.
The only serious questions are did the Paris Climate agreement go far enough?. Regardless of what you think of it, the fact of the matter the majority of the planet, 191countries signed the agreement and consider climate change to be a major issue that needs urgent actions, hence why the world was so disgusted with Trump when he pulled America, the current 2nd biggest emitter of CO2 and historically largest CO2 emitter out of the agreement.
"As to the Iran Treaty it was worthless for the signees and Iran
benefited from it hugely. hey started proxy wars in Syria and Yemen
and moved their uranium into army basis and nobody could inspect
anything there. Was it worth anything to make the world being
safer? NO, the real beneficiaries were only Iran that exceeded the
enrichment levels and the corrupt US politicians who got a kickback
from it.
None of the signatures intelligence agencies said Iran was in breach of the deal, not even the US. Trump pulled out of it purely out of his hatred for Obama. Not that I support Iran's action but proxy wars had nothing to do with deal. Did America stop supplying weapons to Iran's enemies during the agreement period?
"What trade war are you talking about? There were no such thing.
There were EU country products going into the US without any import duty
- bit the issue was not replicated in the EU - where countries charged
import duties on US products. All that Trump said was no more, If
the EU countries do that so would the USA. A trade war goes much
wider than the minor issue of import duties."
The one that was raging for most of Trumps presidency.
"Trump was the President of the USA and responsible for the advancement
of the interests of all its people - he was not the Godfather of
Europe. If the EU leaders think that is wrong they are welcome to
his successor - the weak and corrupt Biden. "
No one asked him to be godfather of Europe, however American's actions do have consequences outside of America and it would be nice if America had a reasonable, responsible leader that wasn't a total bully and a total idiot, that ignorantly made a fool of himself time and again on the world stage. You can call Biden weak and corrupt all you want but it doesn't make it true.
