The Allende hype conjours up images of a dynamic centre, finding space and running freely through open space. There was a vague promise of that in the S15. Now, however, the image is an opponent draped around Allende making haste slowly...tractoring on. Yesterday was not unique:
Jean de VilliersC048471110Damian de AllendeC0311110300

Against the Bargies he  made 11 metres in 11 runs at Durban...Jean made 47 in 8 but he is old so that doesn't count. Allende did beat 3 defenders in his 11 metres...mostly because his tractoring  allowed waves of new tacklers to have a shot.
Think I'm being unfair? Well the highest metres per carry was against Oz...just over 5... And he managed just over 4 against NZ,  for the rest he was much lower.
This is not spectacular attacking....irresistible running. It's below average in metres gained per run. Certainly because he can struggle on he shakes some tackles, but so slowly, that the defence is not threatened.
But if you are looking for a silver lining, all this tractoring results in many defenders beaten per metre gained, for what that's worth.
Based on his early S15 form he has more  to offer, but if anything he is becoming less productive.

I will give him this much, the pool stages have been by far his best rugby this year. However, are Scotland and Samoa as much of a test as Australia, France, the current New Zealand (very different from the one we played in the RC)? I'd have to say no. Maybe Meyer can keep this working for a while longer but it's one hell of challenge. If we beat Wales I'll say this team has exceeded itself.

Step will play against the US, and a good performance there could threaten Allende's tenuous hold on a starting spot. Frankly it's a close call, but not a good one. Centers have always been crucial in WC, and these youngsters are way short of standard.

Wise choice limiting your words! But it's too late.
So when did he run over anyone, and who was it against?
When has he landed a strong tackle?
Simple questions that should be answerable by someone who so strongly disagree. There is something very wrong with your stance. Emotional bias is the only explanation.

Moz, Serf is stronger head on than Damian and can carry the ball right into traffic. He defends more reliably too. Whatever helps Kriel is best in my opinion.

Who cares about Argentina when the whole Bok side was pathetic

The stats that count are the ones against the top two sides in the game

Read an weep

The stats say:

Against Oz

At 12....de Allende ran the ball 9 times, gained 49m, made 2 clean breaks and beat 3 defenders.
The stats against the Kiwi's are even more impressive
de Allende 11 runs, 46m gained , 2 clean breaks, 6 defenders beaten
The last time Jean had stats like that would have been when he was 25

Using stats selectively will tell you whatever story you want them to tell!
I am not a great Serfontein fan and would much rather have De Allende in starting line up.

"Who cares about Argentina when the whole Bok side was pathetic those stats don't support my views"
"The stats that count are the ones against the top two sides in the game supporting my views"

According to the stats Willie (11r, 103m), Jean (8r, 47m) and Jesse (5r, 40m) all managed to make an impact in the Argentina game, despite the whole Bok side being pathetic. What a lame excuse. De Allende was impotent against the hard and low tackling Argentinians.

de Allende was at best solid against the Argies but was great against the two sides that counted - being Oz and NZ

He was very good against Samoa and good against Scotland......all in all a class act

As long as Mozart, Dim Fox and Pakie do not answer a simple question which I posted to the affect what Meyer's game plan was on Saturday and in the tests since the loss to Argentina in July in Durban - my response to their posts will be the same -
Duplicate BS
The three dunces has one thing in common - they blame individual players for losses in games.  De Allende did not play in the Japan test otherwise he would also have been blamed for the loss in that test.
Answer my simple question - what did Meyer require from De Allende on Saturday and then tell me what happened.

Meyer's gameplan changed a bit in those tests.
The Samoan and Scotland tests alone were quite different. Meyer changes certain elements depending on the opposition. Against Scotland we had multiple phases attacking with pods in midfield before letting the backs have the ball. From first phase Damian attacked the seams, with a simple switch off first receiver. Scots had power but not mobility, so the idea was to put Damian in 1v1 situations versus forwards. Loved the split back formations off midfield scrums, Pollard and Willie posing as dual threats on each side as viable first receiver options. Though a scrum in the second half didn't go to plan, Malherbe was on. Basically the Scots got a quick release off the back and swarmed our attack because they got a good turn on our scrum, which is a shame because we had a 3v2 where the two defenders had to leave Habana unmarked. On defence the Boks defended with an arrow defence in the middle of the field. They were pushing the Scots out wide. This conceiled Lood's lack of mobility as he was well supported on either side. A ny more questions?

He asked for it. I had to laugh when he said the Boks play 2002 Bulls rugby. Because of Meyers association with the Bulls he will forever be accused of playing kick and chase, when that couldn't be farther from the truth. Watching the Aus test was bizarre, we were both essentially playing the same way in the first half. Then they reverted to territory and forward carries and beat us.

My eyes has not glazed over stupid.   What Dim Fox describe is nto what happened in fact.  The forst half the Springboks played comprehensive rugby - the second half they collapse in a heap and allowed the AB backline to many balls to run with by aimless kicking and ball possession handovers.  Was typical Bulls rugby they played in the second half - kick and never caught up with the catcher and let him take the ball further.
One wanders what rugby you two dunces watch or whether you just make up stories like that since it fits your prejudice against players.
You dunces has yet to answer a very simple question I asked you - what was Meyers plan insofar as backline play on Saturday was concerned?   If you did not see a tendency about what was done - then you must be even denser than I think you normally are.  Planks can do better.

Wahahahahaha. Ou Tokkie asks DF to describe the game plan against Scotland. DF does exactly that. Ou Tokkie cries BS and says that it is not what happened and then helps DF out by describing what has happened. Only problem is that Ou Tokkie has suddenly switched to some game against the ABs.

The third dunce is back - so nice to see that you still has the audacity to post your standard dribble on this site.  But your other pals need support - Mozart writes the same BS and start the same threads over and over - with just different headings.  The mantra and contents are the same and the BS are the same.
You are too dense to realize what is going on - so let us be entertained by another nitwit.   It seriously is funny to see how ignorant the three sunces really are - but also disappointing that people saying they are SA supporters are so rugby-ignorant with prejudice the only norm for their assessment of players.

You always have to respond to the three dunces - they think they run the site and can fill it up with BS.   DF thinks he is a know-all but he really is a plank and that si a plain fact.  He writes long reports on matches and when ana lyzed it consists of misrepresentations and outright lies.   The man is a joke a minute - his admiration for failed rugby players is a real joke,

We supposedly talk rubbish, but you have yet to form even a basic rebuttal. Your delusions regarding the Aussie test was at least an attempt, but still a miserable failure.
As for thinking we are running the site, who is it who runs to the mod demanding certain members be removed? You. Who was it who, several times, tried to get a mob together to chase away members? You. You are high on your own self-importance.

True.....but it matters little what you present to the Barking Dogs. Here's another data point. Supposedly Allende dominated the NZ centres. But look at his opponent Fekitoa....makes the same metres in half the runs....and pulls off 3 offloads to 1.
The thing that has SA fans howling with delight is the tackles beaten stat....it's meaningless if the ball dies with the player. Meaningless if done at slow speed in forward type runs. And as you can see Fekitoa got an assist....Allende hasn't got a try or an assist all international season....in fact ever!!!!
Is it coaching,  is it the player....who the hell knows. But we ought to be smart enough to at least identify the problem.

I haven't looked at the stats, but I know from the video that Juan Hernandez outplayed Damian too. Has there been one opposite he has truly dominated? I suppose the Samoan 12, but he saw very little of Samoa's 32% possession. Not very encouraging. In Super rugby he was doing his work much wider, so I suppose I should credit the fact that Damian is being used more as a 12 under Meyer. Clearly our coach has put in considerable effort to correct his shortcomings, his positioning on defence has improved. I wonder what will happen to Damian if Meyer is replaced? Perhaps our coach is that thin line between Damian being a success or failure. I d oubt the barking dogs have ever considered that.

Everything is meaningless if Mozart decide as such.   If he decided to compare an outside centers performance with that odf an inside center it is meaningful.  His main issue is that he is a know-all.  He did not mentyion that he compares a player who came from the bench who came on because Nonu and Smith was embarrassed by De Allende and Kriel in that match,
He talks about having the sense to compare stats and then he comes up with this KAK,  The idiot is absolutely stupid in using stats to prove anything if he does not understand rugby at all.
Lets look at the stats of the two 12's in that match:-
 Nonu0/001/2/41702004/40/020/0      de Allende0/000/6/1146260010/20/000/0
That is comparing apples with apples.  This idiot should know that is is constantly coming up with BS.  What an embarrassment he is on this site.

So let's suppose Nonu ran 11 times....instead of 4. His projected metres would be 11/4*17 =47 metres. His projected clean breaks would have been 11/4*2 =5.

Nonu played 46 minutes dumbo.  Allende played the whole game. Combined Nonu and Fekitoa  had
9 runs for 68 metres....with 3 clean breaks.

Allende had 11 runs for 46 metres and 2 clean breaks.

Where is the dominance.....just a bunch of tractoring which went nowhere.

Nonu was having a bad game, no doubt about that - not that it had anything to do with Damian. In fact he hasn't been in good form all year. That just raises more issues, why wasn't Damian more influential in that game. Nonu had 7 balls to Damian's 17, yet could not affect the game. Looking through the notes for that game he was ineffective on defence, and made some scrappy bursts when play broke down that resulted in nothing. In a scrappy, structureless game you'd think he'd have thrived. He didn't. Worst of Damian's tests this year in my opinion. That says something considering the Aussie implosion.
