You always get it wrong now don't you?  The heading should be Steyns on the defence.  You can pick yourself which of the two - Morne or Francois.  Both have far wo rse defensive records than De Allende.

Actually, Damian's stats this year exceed the failings of either Morné or Frans Steyns' entire careers to date! Th e part that makes me laugh is that this is a literal fact. What was it? Damian is the worst defensive centre this Super rugby season? Even worse are the quality of most of his "successful" tackles!

Balls - you do not understand interpretation of stats  at all and that has been shown up in recent postings.   The question is what contribution players make.  Evaluation of stats for defense centers around number of tackles attempted - number of successful tackles out of those attempted tackles and number of missed tackles.   On that basis is the missed tackle ratio's calculated.
Lets take the last two tests played by Morne Steyn and De Allende"-
Morne Steyn - Perth testTackles attempted -   15Tackles missed      -     7Missed tackle ratio    - 46,67%
Morne Steyn has always had a poor record in defense - the Perth test was not the only one where he was desperately poor statistically.
Damien de Allende
Tackles attempted -   21Tackles missed      -     6Missed tackle ratio    - 28,57%
There is a similar calculation basis applicable to Super 15 and Francois Steyn was consistently worse in tackles over the last two Super 15 seasons than De Allende.  It was the same this year.   I have never disputed the fact that De Allende needs to improve on his defense- but to use fraudulent interpretations is not my forte - it is yours and Mozart's.
A statistical missed tackle ratio's above 14% by any backline player is not acceptable and calls for improvement.  Morne Steyn's average of 25% is way too high in tests - Francois Steyn's 28% in Super 15 the same.
The problem is that De Allende is a 10 times better player in attack than the desperately poor Steyns and that factor also plays a role in team selection.  That is why in Super 15 over the past two years De Allende was rated very highly in Super 15 and Francois Steyn was an abject failure.
By the way - Francois Steyn's main problems in defense are his serious pace deficiency coupled to his whacky knee problem.   De Allende would get to people and attempt tackles - Fransie will see them running past him on either side - not get to them at all and not attempt tackles.  That happened all too frequently in the past.  One example - just watch the Super 15 game last year between the Sharks and the Reds - where Harris twice ran past him in that fashion  and have a look at the Crusaders game last year when Slade did the same to him.
Your interpretation of the game last weak insofar as De Allende's defense is concerned has been exposed as a hoax/fraud  and littered with falsehoods and lies - so I did not expect that you would come up with the latest story as well.
Just one addition - De Allende is a far stronger tackler with higher tackle value than both Steyn's - who not only miss tackles - but is poor quality tacklers.

Mozart, the Wallaby test of Damian was worse than the first Lions test of Jacobs. As much as I disregard Jacobs, I will give him this:
  1. Never did he ever shy away from putting his body on the line
  2. His positional play was as good as anyone elses.
Damian makes every kind of defensive error week in and week out. He never adapts to the opposition, falling for the same plot repeatedly in the same game.

Your stats prove very little if anything, thus you have no business talking rugby to anyone. Unless of course you can provide answers to show insight into these numbers, but you have been incapable of doing so in the past as you depend on the lie to add credence to them.

 Disaster
Since you do not understand the above figures and the value to be put to them - it shows that you are too idiotic to understand it.   There is no answers necessary - it was given already.
Let me explain again the missed tackle ratio is the percentage of the total number of tackle attempts as against the number of tackles missed by the tackler.  In the case of Morne Steyn's disaster in the Perth test the calculation is calculated as follows:-
  7 tackles missed x 100 - divided by 15 = 46,67%
Now the general joke is that most people feel that disastrous penalty kicked buggered up by him in the Perth test was the only reason why he has not played a test since - another equally important reason was his tackle failures and poor defense.
Meyer would likely have used him in the test today - bar foe his missed tackle ratio of 55% in his latest game for Stade Francais.  You cannot play a player who cannot tackle and the day you tell me a missed tackle ratio is not worse than one of 28 - that is the day when you are ready for admission to a lunatic asylum.
Incidentally Morne's stats are putrid - Fransie's is not much better.  In Super 15 his worst record was making 50% of attempted tackles and his next highest is 37% - so the two are in the lead by some distance in this case - FACT.
You are apparently too dumb to understand why De Allende was regarded as the best 12 in Super 15.  Your hatred of the guy is beyond anything I have ever seen on this site - and that is because he is outplaying your hero Francois Steyn so comprehensively.  You are actually making a complete fool of yourself in that case.  If you were evaluating De Allende's performances properly and not come up with constant BS - you will find the same as I did.  I said he is exceptional in attacking play - but he needs to tighten up in defense.

Michael, your stats are useless. As I have already shown, these stats are not informative enough to stand on their own. Can you talk me through these tackles? If not then it's futile to post them as if they tell us anything.

TI see wee Beeno is in the dog house again. He looks used to it now so no worries
DF, as usual some posters are focusing on one aspect of the game & getting euphoric, it used to be the scrum, now it is the mid-field. Even this is shaky ground because as you &. others have pointed out defense is a weakness . Also kriel is a rookie & they need an experienced player to help set the defense.  Kriel might be good off the bench. In general books have some good back line players but many are one dimensional, wee Willie also has his weaknesses.

 Desert Disaster
This is crap - you "talked Us" through the tackles last week - and 90% of it was utter deception and lies.  The real issue is purely statistical - but even there it is not the full answer.  Statistics give a real indication of whether any player is an effective tackler or not.  The second element is how effective are his tackles - is it weak, average or strong tackles.  The third element is - is a player getting to the point where he can attempt tackles or is the ball carrier just running past a player without any tackle being attempted.
so lets take the three elements in respect of for instance De Allende and Steyn
De Allende
Statistically    -   below par Quality          -   GoodPace deficiency - Not in evidence
Steyn
Statistically    -   far below par Quality          -    AveragePace deficiency -  Poor
Steyn has a serious pace deficiency and a whacky knee too boot.  Statistically he was always over the past two years much worse than De Allende.  His tackle quality is barely adequate and his pace is far too slow to make him an effective defender.
Lets look at Matfield and De Jager
De Jager
Statistically    -    Good Quality          -     GoodPace deficiency -  Above average
Matfield
Statistically    -   Above average Quality          -    WeakPace deficiency -  Above average
Matfield's problem is he is physically deficient and not strong enough to make tackles in traffic where he is mostly ineffective.  The main portion of his tackles is of players in open field tackles.  Ball carriers always go forward in tackles and his tackles is largely ineffective.  De Jager on the other hand makes most of his tackles in traffic and is a strong tackler - something Matfield is not.
Listen - just one question - I know you want Fransie Steyn in the team - but is he worth all the lies and BS you write on this site?
