Naas Both made the following comments on World Cup selection:-
"Former Springbok flyhalf Naas Botha believes only in form players should be selected in the national squad for the Rugby World Cup in two months’ time.

“Experience definitely assists but I believe form is more important because the World Cup is only six weeks long and not three months,” Botha said in Midrand on Wednesday at the launch of his book Creative Rugby which he co-authored with Dr Kobus Neethling.

“When you play league like Super Rugby that takes place over three months which is a different ball game because you can get out of a slump.”

Botha says form trumps experience and should be the only measure when deciding the 31-member group for the global showpiece.

“It is said World Cups are won with experience but is that really the answer? Do you take talent that is in form or do you opt for experience?” he said.

“It think it is quite simple, you take the guy that is in form.”

That excludes the story of Mozart and his co-idiots completely.  They carry on about experience and reputation - present form counts for nothing in their thinking.    However, Nass in the rest of the article made the following comments as well:-

The rugby pundit says the midfield combination of Jesse Kriel and Damian de Allende is an example of how valuable young talent at the top of their game is to the Springboks.

“If you look at De Allende and Kriel, they have enough experience but on the international stage they are inexperienced,” Botha said.

“Have they really looked inexperienced over the last internationals? No. They were quite creative and scored quite good tries.”

Botha says the duo have created a good selection conundrum for Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer, who will have to decide whether he sticks with the youthful combination or opt for the experience of Jean de Villiers.

“I’ve always said: ‘give me an opportunity and I will make your life difficult’ and that is what Jesse Kriel and Damian de Allende did,” he said.

“They are making Heyneke Meyer’s life difficult because they showed real class and form.

“He will have to make a difficult decision because he can only take 31 players to the World Cup.”

While the midfield combination has been a standout during the Super Rugby season, the title-winning exploits of Springbok pivot Morne Steyn have not gone unnoticed.

Steyn was instrumental in Stade Francais’ successful French Top 14 campaign including a starring role in their final against Clermont Auvergne where he slotted four penalties for the 12-6 victory last month.

"I made an effort to watch his quarter-final, semi-final and final for Stade France and he was absolutely brilliant apart from his kicking,” Botha said.

“He played very good rugby and he must be in the mix but unfortunately South Africans would remind you that against Australia he didn’t kick the ball out.

“There are 14 other guys that can also help a little bit. How did they (Australia) get through? Not by running past the flyhalf but through 14 other players.”

Steyn last featured for the Boks in their 24-23 defeat to Australia in Perth last year where he was blamed for his role in the loss after he failed to kick the ball into touch from a penalty which resulted in the Wallabies scoring for the victory in the dying moments.

The 31-year-old Steyn has since seen Handre Pollard and Pat Lambie move ahead of him as the flyhalf of choice.

Boasting with 688 points from his 59 Tests, Steyn's metronomical kicking could be invaluable at the World Cup."

Now we have a funny one here.  Naas will be accused of talking rubbish about everything bar the Morne Steyn issue.   And Mozart will come up with his standard crap about experience being the only requirement iro WC winning teams.

This is posted for laughs sake and there will be plenty of that once the Village idiots commented on it.

Why don't you be truthful for a change and turn your remark around to what you are really trying to say? Remind us again about your opinion of Morne Steyn's play in the Top14 final. Come on. Let's see if you can (want to) remember what you said.

Morne had a Sh!t performance other than to convert four penalties.   His stats says it all:-

Steyn0/01216/12/4501026/50/000/0
His ball carrying was near to zero - he lost ball possession twice and his tackles stats were normal Morne's fare - with a missed tackle ratio in excess of 45%.

Ag balls - what a load of tripe from the third Village idiot.   I did make some initial comments on Morne Steyn based on the ESPN stats - but when I saw what actually happened in the game - it confirms that aside from kicking at goal - he was piss poor.

In this case there was no ESPN stats provided on the game which makes a huge difference.

What Naas said:

That was Naas's opinion - he is normally near the mark.  What I did say all along is that Morne should be the no 3 reserve flyhalf of the Springboks - definitely only taking the field i an emergency situation when the other two are not available.  He is way too robotic and unreliable to be trusted as a starter or even from the bench.  Against a stronger team he is a definite no-no.
I said Morne is to be included because he is more reliable than Jantjies, although the latter is a better ball player than Morne.
By the way - Naas missed out about Habana being carded ans ready to come back - so the 14 become 13 other guys and that in itself represents a major problem.
If you want to kill the backline play - then put mporne in that backline - it will eb as dead as a do do.

Hahahahaha. I was referring to Naas' comments about Morne and the Top14 you plank. Than again your ducking and diving was expected.
As to your view Morne at no3 in the pecking order as well as his inclusion (I don't know inclusion in what). That is also BS. FFS, you had Handre Pollard as the tenth (IIRC) best fly half, not too long ago.

Stupid fool - there will be 3 flyhalfs in the WC squad - no 1 Pollard, no 2 Lambie, no 3 Morne Steyn.   Can you ever understand anything logical or are you just the most stupid member of this site and we have to accept it.
I did not comment on the Stade Francais game - since I do not agree with Naas on Morne's performance - so I merely said he is entitled to his own opinion on that score.  The main reason remains that Morne's stats in that game other than kicking at goal was piss poor.
What you miss Plank is not the issue of Morne Steyn - he is third best in the pecking order and three players will be in the squad.   What were really the case here is the continued support of you and your fellow village idiots of players like Francois Steyn, Fourie du Preez, Willem Alberts, Victoria Matfield on reputation - with zero regard to performance/form.   That was the over-riding issue - is reputation and experience the only norm for team selection as you duds may think, or is selection based on form to be the norm.  Naas thinks the latter - the duds are reputation and experience supporters, where form is totally disregarded.

There's a conundrum by the name of "Damian v Australia", kindly tend to that and then we can talk about blowhard Naas - The same who punted Hougaard over Pretorius in 2003, Pretorius over Butch in 2007, and Lambie over Morne in 2011... all blowing up in his face! Also fell for the Watson hype too.

 More ducking and diving.
OK, so you are right and Naas is wrong. What does Naas know about flyhalf play in any case?
The rest of your "explanation" is a load of BS as well. Rather go sort out your garden or something.

 Dunce
I do not necessarily agree with Naas on the Morne Steyn issue - that I am entitled to do.   The fact that you regard the rest of what I wrote as BS again showed what I always said about you - a tragic case of Sh!t o the Brain Syndrome" resulting from writing BS all the time and from rank stupidity.
It obviously goes past you because your thinking ability is what one expect from a ten-year-old.  Anything beyond that is incomprehensible to you.  Am afraid nothing will help in your case - dunce.

So if Naas was wrong about Morne, how can you be sure he is right about the worst defensive centre in the SH? You've unwittingly discredited your only defence on the subject; a conundrum you are quite entitled to do, but a conundrum all the same

Naas was a better kicker than an observer. His insights are about on a par with his tackling.

@Bluebok. This is ou Tokkie's problem. If asked, he will find it very hard to come up with a post where I said that De Allende is useless and should not be in the side. I do not believe that DF has really said that either. He can correct me  on this, but his main issue with DA is his defence. Unlike ou Tokkie, who judges successful defence as how far back a tackler has tackled a ball carrier, DF looks at many other aspects of defensive play.
DF also watches a lot of NFL and someone just posted this clip on another forum. It is about an NFL coach who is using rugby union tackling techniques in his NFL team's defensive training. Have a look.

I said Damian is nippy and good at attacking the outside with some space. I noted that statistically, offloads result in far more tries from 13 than 12, so naturally he would suit 13 where he won't be so overwhelmed by head on physicality. But with Kriel doing okay defensively, I said this creates a problem for Damian. Why drop Kriel? But one thing is for certain, he isn't a 12. Those have been my views all along.
