Beauden Barrett will sit out four weeks of the Super Rugby due to a knee injury.

Barrett's scans revealed a grade two tear of his medial collateral ligament (MCL) which he suffered in Saturday's win over the Crusaders.

"Obviously I'm gutted with the injury, but fortunately it's not season-ending for me," said Barrett.

"I've been pretty lucky to have a good run without injury for a while, but it's now up to me to work hard on my rehab and make sure I'm ready to return at the business end of the season."

Should all go well with his rehabilitation, the Hurricanes are hopeful Barrett will be available for selection when the Hurricanes face the Crusaders in Nelson on May 29.

I believe that Barrett is injured but also think it is good that he gets some time to heal, get over other niggles and get in top shape. He will be back in time to sharpen up before the RWC so no harm done.
I think this is also the case with a lot of "injured" bok players. Also, kiwi players like Rettalick Kaino, etc. will benefit from the ti me off.

I like Barrett - he is an intelligent player with lots of pace - probably the best flyhalf at present in New Zealand.   His only real competitor is Slade - the rest are way below the level of those two at present.  Hope he makes an early and full recovery.
This is ruinous info for a lot of fantasy sport participants.  I intended to select him for my squad this weekend - but since he is out, I would have to look elsewhere for a flyhalf.  Both my flyhalfs have a bye and that would mean I have to find another player as flyhalf.  Maybe Foley if I can afford him.
