"That was totally uncalled for and it now got all members from New Zealand into a situation where they are really embarrassed."

clevermike I dont have a clue what we NZ'ders should be embarrassed about here. Its very clear to me the problem issue lies with you saffas who fail to accept the error lies with your team and NOT bryce. I knew that right at the start after the rwc boks /oz match so you are all fooling yourselves believing that anybody else in the world ouitside saffa land has an issue with the outcome of that 2011rwc match.

In Perth 2012 Oz again proved how they being the better team can come from behind at half time and beat the boks 26-19. Only a really good team can do that. A weaker team capitulates after 3 poiints behind like the boks did Oct 6th FNB stadium after all the pre match hype against the AB's

Please continue with the topic. its interesting hearing all of your theories lol.

Hakwa I think the photoes are fakes - where is maaaaaws red nose!!!!

nzbru lets just say there are none so blind as those who will not see. That you compare the results of a match where our world cup team is so different from the one playing in oz this year and then conclude ithe result proves the wc result is truly amazing ! Hahahahhahahahahahahahahaha so what happened at Loftus etc

I propose all kiwi bird brains wear a red nose to highlight their clowning abilities. Bwahahahhahahahaha

Mike I agree these nz guys are a lot of fun and basically decent in a devious sort of way. Hehehehehehehe You have to love the way they bounce back for another beating.

Beeno puppet master of the kiwi bird brains!

Nzbro All Black

Apparently you don't understand yet - when a total incompetent is put in position like Lawrence was - it means that the action is totally unethical and may even be corrupt.   That should be embarrassing to anyone trying to defend it.

Lawrence was booted out of the IRB referee panel not by SA - the original complaint was lodged not by the Austrailains.   The IRB based their decision sound evidence after it was apparent to all but the blind that he was groslly incompetent.   He was not reffing for 6 months and came back with a incompetent performance in the Crusader game.    So much so that the New Zealand press took it out on him and Blackadder in particular went for the jugular.

Can you in the light above really justify his subsequent appointment to a key position.  Don't tell me he ever was a competent referee - he has a terrible history of disasters, mainly involving New Zealand teams.    Can you please tell me one thing -  will he teach New Zealand referees how to be incompetent and how to influence outcome of matches - since that is his stock in trade.

Ask Brycy where he got the story of the Knighthood from - I am really not interested enough in a failure to pay attention to what he is op to or what happens to him.

Let me repeat my quote as to the disgrace your Rugby Board is - despite the apparent contempt you so for the fraze iused:-

"That really shows utterly disgraceful contempt for morally accepted values of decent people."

Whatever you may say - I stand by my comments as quoted above and my conviction that the appointment of Lawrence in the position he was given, is grossly unethical or worse.   That is going to damage New Zealand referee development badly and will not contribute anything to the IRB pool of referees at all.

We have all had our say and our case is very strong.  I am a sensitive, caring  person and would not like to embarrss our kiwi friends further.  Our kiwi friends are feeling like they have been run over by Etzebeth! Or how Lomu felt when tackled into oblivion by Os and Joost!  Have mercy Mike.

If that ever happens it would be a total sign of disrespect for that great NZ-er Sir Edmund Hillary.

The honour of being Knighted is an honour for outstanding perfromane/dedication not for screwing up.

Perhaps he should be Knighted by the rugby fans who so adore him in other parts of the world.

Get my drift.........

Beeno1 think Etzebeth maybe a trifle overrated, made zip impact against AB's, but he's young he'll get there. Lomu has more legendary status as a rugby player than anyone that's come out of South Africa...Fact. Scored more tries than either Os or Joost. By the way it is a cruel blow for a player as great as Joost  to be suffering with the neuromuscular diease he has been diagnosed with, hopefully the SA AND international rugby community are rallying to support him.  God bless you Joost for the great games of Rugby you were part of.

 clevermike quote "NZbro All Black

It may sound funny - but I have stated much the same reasons for the loss by the Springboks that you have given.  I have no problem with your interpretation at all.

However. what I do raise and nobody really want to answer is the wider impact of the conduct of New Zealand as to subsequent rewarding of Lawrence "for services rendered"

Clevermike its obvious that its only in saffa land that bryce is a thorn in the side and nowhere else in the world. The negative comments and malice shown towards him is typical of bitter fans blaming the ref for their team's loss. I and many others here in nz do not and never will focus too much attention on your bitter comments and wild theories regading your loss to Oz. The 15 factual points I indicated above is proof enough of where the error really lies namely with the boks.!

So you & beeno have your rant and express yourselves with your theories and then give it a rest because nobody really cares. You're still No 3 which in itself is flattering for the boks. Just acknowledge the fact that the boks are not and never will be world beaters.

Nzbro All Black

I am the one contributor on this site that always look at two issue and that recognize the All Balcks as the number 1 team in the world at the same timn.   The issues involved -

*    never relates to emotion and "bitterness" as you stated; but

*    to a complete and indisputable legal facts.

You will also note that I am particularly critical of SA Rugby and often get accused tht I am over-critical and soft on New Zealand Rugby.   However, in this case I am particularly critical of the actions of the NZRB - not of the All Black team at all.   I admire the team and think the NZRB is at fault - hence my serious questions about their conduct.

The issue of refereeing are raised in two other threads - one started by Sharkbok and the other by Brycy.   Please refer to my factual comments under that thread.   It remains absolutely clear in that answer that -

*   Bryce Lawrencde is a complete incompetent kicked out by the IRB; and

*   That putting him in charge of refereeing developmentin New Zealand is atrocious.and not in the broader interests of New Zealand refereeing in particular and world rugby in general.

Emotional statements as to "bitterness" does not answer the issues raised by me at all - so lets leave the matter there.

Bryce Lawrence has been involved with first class refereeing since 2005 at ITM, Super and test match level, that's a massive amount of experience he has gained, and if you are truly expecting the NZRU not to recognise and leverage that experience because of a poor effort in one match then frankly you're more of a doofus than I thought.

Just because he may have had an off day in that semi (and he wasn't the reason you lost that game BTW, your Boks choked up a storm), he had a very good tournament in the rest of the matches he was involved in.

And speaking of ethics, it's not like NZRU gave him a gold watch after that semi-final or anything.

I have no problem with the appointment, I know Bryce and frankly he didn't deserve the shameful vitriolic attacks to both his and his family's safety that he received from South African's in the wake of that game.  It was ultimately these threats that made it unsafe for Bryce to ref in South Africa which subsequently led to his dropping from the elite reffing panel, not his performance in that match as you're pathetically alleging.

Bryce is reffing a game in NZ as I type this, and is doing a fine job - but you wouldn't know anything about that Mike, because you are a twat of the highest order.

Bryce Lawrence may be a nice person - I grant you that - and as an acqaintance of his, you would know better.

He is no doubt the subject of virtiolic attacks by some South Africans - but thye are not the only ones that complined about him.   Have you not seen the Blackadder response after the Crusader game I mentioned earlier.

Fact remains the response is not about the person Bryce Lawrence - but his competence as a referee.   He has  years of experience as a referee - but throughout his career there were constant adverse reports of the quality of his refereeing.   Experience alone does not make him a good referee - he was at best average and ultimately proven to be incompetent.

I admire your loyalty to him as a person - but believe it is totally misplaced in this case.   In any event - my comments is not aimed at Bryce Lawrence as a person - it is aimed at the NZRB -  a body that is ultimately aiming at totally disgracing itself.

Be assured - it is not the first time this type of thing happened in World Sport.   Before the Sydney Olympics for instance,  Australians made serious allegations of drug abuse by Chinese athlestes and swimmers.   However, it was proven afterwards that most drug abuse was in the US and Australian teams and a number of medals to them was subsequently recalled by the IOC.

The insolence of sport bodies is not confined to New Zealand - but in evidence around the world.  So you can take note of what I said and I remain correct - since my statements are based only on fact - not fictional deductions..

You're a fucking dope. End of.  Your statements on him are not based on fact, of the hundreds of games he's reffed you're referenced two.  I could find 2 bad match reports of any referee you nominate.  You are a small minded twat who can't see the wood for the trees because of one match involving your precious Boks and you fail to recognise the impact of the death threats had on his career.

Let me be blunt - the only narrow-minded people in this case are those living on two smallish  islands in the South Pacific that cannot accept that anybody from the isalnds are not perfect.

In South Africa at least we have the privilege of having open minds on issues and express serious criticism of local rugby personalities and players - we do not think they are above criticism.   In New Zealand people apparently think everything is perfect and everybody in the world must idolize them.

That reminds me of a remark made to me while I was meritrating the person concerned.   He said:-

" I am so good - I cannot speak to highly of myself"

Keep on believing the idiocy of your self-importance.   I think the problem is that in ten years time New Zealand will still have no referees on the IRB panel of referees - all due to your incoimpetent Bryce Lawrence.   That i believe would be a tragedy - end of story.

I'm not buying into a conspiracy theory but I will reiterate that Lawrence was an incompetent and has always been one, I've never liked him as a Ref. The two WC quarters just highlighted his incompetence because of their importance. Kiwis on this forum seem to have a great deal of difficulty admitting to their own's incompetence unlike SAFFAS who will call a spade a spade. And OBTW in case you've forgotten, the first rule of law is for a Ref. to act as a neutral, Bryce Lawrence hopelessly violated that law in both those quarter-finals.

Denny, "Kiwis on this forum seem to have a great deal of difficulty admitting to their own's incompetence unlike SAFFAS who will call a spade a spade" like your Boks and coach admitted that the better Team beat them in 2011 RWC??? "call a spade a spade" bwahahahahahahahaha you couldn't see a spade if it hit you in the face.

The Wallabies and O'Neil tormented poor BL after their loss to the Irish - give credit to the Irish - they simply outplayed the Wobblies!

The Boks tormented poor BL after their loss to the Wobblies - give credit to the Wobblies - they simply outplayed you and scored one try whereas you scored none!

The Saffers and former Wallabies players including Phil Kearns and minnions continue to torment Joubert (and any ref) for seemingly favouring the ABs in the RWC Finals - now Joubert is subconsciously trying to prove to the Rugby World that he does not favour the ABs by overpenalising them (and missing obvious thuggery on McCaw - Rougerie eye gouge in the finals, Higginbottom's kneeing and then headbutting McCaw)

Message for Mr Joubert who is a real gentleman - stick to your guns mate! Continue to do what is right! Don't let these school yard bullies bully you! You are above that!

Give credit to the ABs - how many times do we have to beat France in the same RWC to prove that we are RWC Champions - infact isn't that fact rammed home this year yet in the Bledisloe and Rugby Championship??????? and Tests against Ireland????????

1. Do the Boks deserve to be RWC Champions in 2007?

2. Did the Boks play well enought to beat the Wallabies in the 2011 RWC quarter finals?

A simple yes or no will do - tx

Hakwa, I see you are battling to understand the game so let me explain to you just how Bryce was cheating.

Very rarely anymore do you see tries from 1st phase ball. Teams actually run moves at practice over a series of phases until it opens up. Defences are too good. Now what SA was doing was building up to it and when the Aussies were against the ropes, Pocock put his hands in the ruck and Bryce let it go or he would penalise the Boks in the red zone when we were on attack, the phase before we could deliver the killer blow and often used the excuse "sealing off" or leaving feet at the ruck..On our own ball, 5 metres out?? Whatever Bryce you knob..You deserve everything you get!!

Every time we got close to the tryline we were penalised. Its unheard of for the attacking team to be constantly penalised..With any other ref, SA would have won that game by 20 to 30 points..Maybe even easier. Aussies were not firing a shot!

Precisely so BL. As I have noted mor ethan onmce Dan retief tha trepected rugby journalist said h ecounted 5 times where there was hands in ruck in the Oz 222 right in front of BL. The guy was fo rsome very strange reason completely blind . I am tld it was the pressure. Poor BL simply hadno treffed enough games to dea lwith pressure.

No it reminded me of an incident which robbed tha tfine rugby man and coach Rudlf Straeli o fa tri nations win. The ball bonced off a nz player Russel picked it up and scored. The bent ref said the Boks knocked it on and he was in fullsight of the incident.

One bad incident in the quarterfinal was when Hougarrd received a pass on the wing in a very promising movement - the replay showed the pass was backwards - well so -  but it was ruled a forward pass!!!!. Man when it gets that bad you know what youare up against.

No guys we need to deal with all this rubbish as it spoils the game and coaches and players lose jobs and positions in sides etc.

I think its time captains could appeal to the TV  ref where there are points in volved etc. Lets say a captain gets three apeals a half. If they are right they keep the appeal - much like in tennis.  This works in cricket as well. Personally I would tolerate a delay for the benefit of getting a right decision.

Yes, you did deserve to win the 2007 RWC.

No, you did not play well enough to beat the Wallabies in the 2011 RWC Quarter Finals. Take BL away and you still would have lost. Nothing you did in the Quarter finals convinced me otherwise. You were too predictable.

An article by Mark Reason (British) that appeared in the UK based paper the Telegragh gives further insight:

Mr Bryce Lawrence, the son of an official, is rated rather highly by those in charge of the whistle blowers (Dear Old Paddy!!! And BL dad!!!). But a lot of players and fans have absolutely no idea why. He made a complete hash of today's game between Australia and South Africa and the Springboks will be furious. (Well has there ever been a worst display of biased refereeing?)

They identified the breakdown as a crucial area of the match beforehand, but they did expect there to be some sort of reffing. The South Africans thought that the tackler would have to release the ball carrier. They thought that the offside line would be respected. They thought that men would have to stay on the feet. Instead it was a complete shambles. The trouble is that Lawrence has form at this sort of thing. He was given the final of Super Rugby for apparently being the best ref in the tournament. (Hahahhahahahahahaha) Some of us thought that the South African refs were in an altogether different class. They would also have had the advantage of being neutral as the final was between an Aussie and a Kiwi side. But no, Mr Lawrence got the nod. ……… But unless the IRB's refs get a grip we are going to have some really dull semi-finals. Hopefully the guys who can really get a grip at the breakdown – the South Africans and the Northern Hemisphere refs – will be put in charge of the final four matches. If we let a Kiwi near the games, then it will be more mayhem. South Africa will feel cheated. And they have every right to complain. (Only some nz oaks and one or two lunatics like windpomp would think otherwise) Mark Reason also wrote this severe indictment: If New Zealand go out of a consecutive World Cup because of another dodgy refereeing decision, they will have no one to blame but themselves. The All Blacks no longer even bother to bend the laws. They set out to deliberately cheat. For only one piffling syllable, CHEAT is an awfully big word. "Who are you calling a cheat?" demands the card-playing gunslinger, just before the mandatory murder and the five aces sliding from the sleeve. The All Blacks cheat in spades. Half of their tries in the Tri- Nations have been set up by blatant cheating. Go back to the first South Africa game just before Wyatt Crockett scored in the corner. It is hard to believe that Richie McCaw could be four yards offside and get away with it, but there he is holding back the South African lock. (Oaks it’s why the world calls him mccheat but to an nz oak he is a demi god – they have a different culture it seems!!!! – No wonder the guys like taking shots at wee mcaaaaw) In the first game against Australia they are at it again. Piri Weepu set up the first try by going through a hole created by Ali Williams holding Quade Cooper to the ground. In the buildup to the second try Ma'a Nonu sets a screen (much as they might do in basketball) for Kieran Read. Every week Paddy O'Brien ( he whose reign coincided for much of this unbeaten  run), the International Rugby Board head of referees, sends out a directive to the coaches about issues that have arisen from the weekend games. At this point O'Brien warned coaches about all the holding back and obstruction that was going on. He might as well have told the All Blacks to stop doing the haka for all the notice they took. New Zealand were at it again on Saturday. There were just three incidents in the leadup to their first try, but the second try was exceptional. As Nonu was running through another black hole, a prone David Pocock was waving his arms in frustration. McCaw and Keven Mealamu had held him pinned to the ground for 14 seconds. Even by the very high standards of the All Blacks, 14 seconds must have constituted a personal best (Bwahahhahahahaha). Does McCaw have an invisibility cloak that only television cameras can penetrate? Even Robbie Deans called him "a bloody menace" and that's when he was coach of the Crusaders. Perhaps the funniest moment in Saturday's game was when the commentator opined that Brad Thorn had been "unfortunate" to bump into Williams. The ref was gullible enough to award an accidental offside And so the sad litany goes on and on and on. The reputation of the abs lies in tatters and only a comprehensive clean out can change things. Judging by the reaction of the nz fans here, this is unlikely. The new appointment of BL serves only to suggest we can expect more of the same unless the IRB takes them in hand and herein lies some hope and both BL and Paddy were shown the door.
