Best current Super Rugby flyhalf

 The answer is not the banning of NH players - but rather make sure the local players get proper coaching and they understand that -
There are two things the flyhalf should take heed of, namely -
*   that there is a general game plan; but*   decision-making and execution is paramount and must be made on the field of play.
Mozart - we are discussing flyhalfs here and who at the NH players we could use at flyhalf.   The only flyhalf that can read games and take real decisions are Goosen - both the Steyns are clueless when it comes to that aspect of the game and even their execution is absolutely the pits.   That was proven over and over in tests and on Super 15 level.
I do not blame the two Steyns entirely - they had to suffer for years through the coaching by Meyer. Ludeke,  white and Gold.   Plumtree identified Fat Fransie  as a problem and said he is no center,  He is even a worse flyhalf than he is a center.
So other than Goosen - no SA player playing NH rugby at flyhalf would be of any value or advantage for the Springboks.

 The best SA 10 on the weekend was Lionel, with the replacement Sharks FH second. Rest of the comp: Barret, Sanhez and then some of the rest. Some good players but nothing really special.

 Stats do lie, here's a comparison of a top SA fly-half & Barrett:

 I like Zeilinga, but he's not the best, not enough games to run a comparison. 

Looking at the tackle success percent Barrett would not get the Mozart stamp of approval. 
The 35 open play kicks would make CleverMike very suspicious. 
As for Beeno, he has given up on rugby & is playing that game with the small yellow balls (tendinitis I think it is) but if he did express an opinion it would be the refs fault.
Trad would say it is all signs the excellent men are depleting the resources.
Seb would tell us the Russians could do it better.
CC would say the Great Danes could do something in a turd of the time.
What do the rest of you have to say, if by some small chance I got some of my characterizations wrong feel free to correct me

Me too DB, I always thought he would pass Cruden and I'm a Chiefs supporter.  
I also thought that TJ would pass A. Smith (may be happening now) but TJ had a really bad knee injury during the early days of their competition & A. Smith really emerged as a world class 9 so it was basically all over when TJ started to get his form back.

 I don't like AS, but he's a damn fine 9!

on form, aaron cruden is the best flyhalf in the competition at the moment, but that current form isnt enough to overtake beaudens barret vice like grip on the inc,umbent All Blacks 10 jersey.

best flyhalf for the Boks is a bit tricky, pollard is prob the best bet for the Boks natural game and can adapt to a variety of different mash ups in the backline. it does look like injury has effected him mentally though, not quite as crisp as he once was when he first  popped onto the scene.

the best flyhalf imo is janties, only problem there is ur going to need a lions heavy Boks team in order for sth africas only attacking flyhalf to play his best game.

that zalinga fella is looking pretty sharp, would he be the form flyhalf in SA??? havent seen many saffa games, but what i have seen of this dude was pretty classy.

I think you are right about Pollard.   But the fact is not only the injury - Pollard's game deteriorated before he was injured.   I think the problem was the coaching and game plan of both Ludeke and Meyer was seriously defective and as a result he became a modern version of Morne Steyn.
Meyer used the forwards as first receivers in the WC and Pollard's only role became that of a kicker of balls - whenever he did get the ball he was forced into kicking it.  
That type of approach is seriously detrimental and he needs expert coaching to get back to his previous performance record. 
Zeilanga was going nowhere for the Sharks last year and he is a different player and much better player after Franco Smith took him in hand.   Maybe Smith can knock the nonsense out of Pollard as well and get him to play his normal game and not some rubbish he was forced into.
I think Zeilinga did improve - but I also think Jean-Luc du Plessis has more ball sense and is a better decision-maker than Zeilinga and at this stage Pollard as well.   What will help Pollard is the fact that he himself is not happy with his performances and realize there is something amiss.       

 
We have a few average Joes at 10 to select from but they're all club rugby players at best ... thrown into the deep end and told to sink or swim. 

Most won't even make the bench of any of the Kiwi SR teams ... and yet we're ready to chalk them up as our national 10. We have nothing else.

Any and all overseas based flyhalves are not viable options. They were never anything special in their day and have regressed further over time. They have no passion, no desire and the wrong attitude and approach to what's needed at test rugby level . They merely go through the motions when selected ... as lifeless as lifeless can be.

It's hilarious to think that we a rugby mad country ... with thousands of players across the land ... cannot find a single decent 10 to take us forward.

 For me it has a lot or mostly, as Mike says, to do with the coaching.
Take SA's best twenty number 10s, put them in a time machine and deliver them all to NZ when at the age of 18. My guess is that there'd be a  very big difference in their ability/skill levels and we'd all be talking about how good the kiwi 10s are. 
We don't lack playing talent in SA. We lack coaching talent... severly.

 Plum would you guys consider a national coach from NZ or is that just not on national pride being what it is ?Theres a few that have experience at super level there isnt there ?That Coetzees a shocker alrighty .

 
That will never happen.

No self respecting coach will be dictated to ... not unless you happen to be a grovelling gravytrainer like Coetzee ... then alls good cause no matter the result ... the money's in the bank ...

The rest of the world's coaches look toward making a name for themselves. The want a good rep. Future positions depend on it.

Coetzee's cashing in while he can. He knows he's done for as an international coach and most SR teams won't want anything to do with him either after this fiasco.

Sadly he made some very racist accusations because he did not get a top job coaching..

 WD I don't think many on this board would complain about having a Kiwi/foreign coach. Hell we were all looking forward to Eddie Jones at the Stormers. In all honesty it might take an outsider coach to help the Boks get some perspective. 
Name me me any foreigner who would willingly want to involve themselves with our wonderful sports minister and SARU and i'll send you a photo of a hippo breakdancing.
This is what happens in SA. Things that could be, should be awesome are turned into failures and laughing stocks. 

 I for one would have Plumtree, Rennie or Mitchell as national coach any day - but that is day-dream ing - the politico's rule the roost here and they get away with murder.
