You'd be a bit surprised I guess Dave given how much you rated your team over the AB's to see the Boks dominated in territory/possession/set piece (except at scrum time).

the boks on talent is as good if not better than nz but if you pitch up with this play to a penality mindset and not even bloody to try win it then how on earth can you expect to be champs

I'm not so sure about that, I thought the AB pack dominated the Boks and the Bok backline showed little or no imagination. We dominated the gain line and only missed 2 tackles the entire match and all we saw was type A Springbok rugby, nothing the All Blacks haven't seen before. That game plan will work some of the time, but having lost 11 of the last 13 against the All Blacks I'd suggest the talent/game plan/depth/coaching is not as strong as some would have you believe.

Saffex is right...it's not about chest beating...give the honest and correct credit when it's due...when I was young we respected the winner and gave credit to our victors and took it on the chin and moved on and improved to meet the challenge...rugby like all sport is meant to be enjoyed and there can only be one winner...it is never the end of the world...well done NZ you beat a great Springbok side and yes, well done Bokke you gave it your best and provided an exciting challenge.

Tough game for both teams. ABs shot themselves in the foot a few times with the penalties and the yellow card. Boks kept it close as many of us predicted they would but could not get the lucky break at the end to win it.
Anyway, commiserations to Bok fans, it was very close.

there is no chest beating chabal we did not want to play the game.....this is not bok rugby at all. you cannot think you can win playing this style of rugby.

Carpetmuncher, the fact is Boks almost did win playing that style of rugby. Personally I can't stand that style but if the Boks won we would have been stuck with a reinforced bad idea, i.e. this style wins RWCs.

The score flatters the Boks with a loss of only 18 - 20, but in reality the difference was much bigger - 2 tries versus zip.
I can not point the problem but we struggled in the first half in the lineout, while our scrum was dominant.
Kriel made a beautiful clean break but had no support to carry on.
The better team won.

Great effort by both teams. NZ were more comfortable retaining the ball. We never beat any tackles.....it has to be an all time low tackle beat...count. With that you have no momentum and get pressure to retain the ball.

Smith was man of the match so that's a yes there I'm afraid. The only area I that the Boks had parity, perhaps more than was the front row. We won by 2 but you never threatened our line, we dominated territory and possession and the breakdown, we were the fitter outfit too. If you truly think the difference between the two sides was 2 points then you might have missed a few bits and pieces in the game.
I agree with you on the a couple if things, your aging players aren't producing like our aging players, and your coach and tactics totally negate any attacking threats you have in the backline. But this All Black side has better individuals and are a better side.

Cant believe what I am reading, Smith was outstanding and prob man of the match. He completely outplayed Willie. I am sorry 1-15 NZ are supieior and outplayed SA man on man, but that is just me. SA didn't attack for whatever reason, but they didn't seem capable, they looked lost. NZ were more clinical end of.

I must have missed Smith's performance....don't recall a single noteworthy thing.
None of the AB's stood out over the Boks....I'd say the only one that did was Aron Smith given du Preez was poor.

Rubbish we were not dominated at all....you used the boot to keep us down there it was certainly not your forwards rumbling us backwards or your backs cutting ours to shreds.....unless we were watching different games.

In the first half we competed in the air and won the battle....in the second half we seemed to hold back under the high balls.....not sure why and with it the game changed

Well played New Zealand.
I'm confident that you guys will go on to make history by being the first nation to win back to back WC trophies ... and it's well deserved.
The Goats were predictable as always under this coach ... playing the same old "game plan" as they have the entire competition ... with no creativity ... an easy read and subsequently an easy counter ... out coached and out played.
I do however think that this aged and tired Goat side can hold their heads up high. They didn't embarrass their country as they gave everything they had and came up short on the day.
