Facing a very ordinary Bloos team the Bools were toothless. They couldn't apply set piece pressure, they lost the physical battle in contact.....the backs were completely innocuous. Some of the tackling was. Well below professional standard. . If we are going to put Ulenga, Kriel and Stepfontein back in the Bok mix we will lose. These players were awful. In the meantime our writers are putting the equally useless Francois Venter in the shadow team...put him up against a NZ backline and he will be no better than Stepfontein was against the Bloos. . But the truth is we no longer have a physical edge......and we have a deficit in skills, their forwards handled better than our backs. And a noticeable deficit in fitness. Where are the standards that are attained in preparing the team.

Damned if I know why anyone would want to be the national coach. It's horrifying to think that it's that same tray feeding our national side.

I think what's happened over the last 5 years is our physical edge is completely gone....we are at parity at best. And the Boks have never been a skills team....so we are now in the boat Ireland, England and Wales have always been....we have to win with higher quality tactics and execution. We can no longer bully our way to victory.

The Bools are our most successful franchize, a multiple Super Rugby winner....this was a post linking their decline to the decline of our rugby. And no, I don't believe the Stormers are as bad as the Bools this year.

By the way the Bulls was BS since 2010 with the rare exception of 2013 when they got into the semi's by hook and by crook and I clearly remember how they got beaten because of a bugger-up by Morne Steyn.   He made a relieving kick from the Bulls 22 which went down the middle of the field to just outside the Bulls 22 and the Brumbies counter-attacked and scored a try.

...in fairness, the Bulls were the only South African team to make the finals of the Brisbane 10s this year -not to be snuffed at the way 15 a side rugby is going...so they were competitive in preseason but have played most of their games away from home since - always a disadvantage...so too early to draw any conclusions

Another disgusting lie: . 1 Morne makes a long kick to put the Bools ahead by 4 points at minute 75. . 2 After the kickoff Steyn is waiting on his 22 for a pass to make a clearing kick . 3 He gets a terrible high pass that he brilliantly pulls down with one hand, jumping to reach the ball. . 4 Because of the time involved the defender is on top of him attempting a charge down, he launches a low kick which avoids the charge down and is caught 5 metres into the Brumbies half, close to the sideline . 5 A try is eventually scored after several phases because of a few badly missed tackles. . Your depiction is just another despicable lie. Posters can check me out here: . https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=MmGLVQuD9BU

That was the game where Potgieter refused to take the points about 4 times. The one where everyone, their aunts, uncles and grandparents, nephews, nieces and their families in Carletonville knew that it was shit captaincy form Potgieter that led to the Bulls not being in an even better position.

Added to that, there are 7 phases of play before the try is scored. The Effect of the kick is just about 0.00000000% after three phases, as the defence should be able to align after two phases AT THE MOST!

Fact is that IdiotMaaik will blame certain players for a try being scored in the 80th minute, as a result of a kick that was made in the 1st minute, as long as its suits his biased and prejudiced opinion. His post above on the incident is proof of that...

Everyone knew and confirmed that it was Potgieter's stupid decisions as captain that cost them the match, including Potgieter himself that indicated as much... And suddenly it was Morne????

Just like Morne is to blame for the less than 50% Springbok win ratio after he stopped being selected... While in his worst years 2013 and 2104 (According to Maaik), the Springbok win ratio was 78%.

 The Truth
Making a stupid kick and handing over possession to the opposing team is lunacy and irrespective of how many phases there were before it led to the scoring of the try.   If that stupid and inaccurate kick was NOT made the scoring of the try would have been unlikely.
Your argument is the same as was the case in another game comprehensively buggered up by Morne Steyn with another clueless and bad kick - namely the penalty line kick Morne missed to find touch in the Perth test in 2014.
There is no excuse for a flyhalf that buggering up kicks - especially such poor ones as was made by Morne in both cases.   A flop as a flyhalf and a flop he will ever be.
Looking at the clip I saw Ludeke and Matfield together and Matfield speaking on the radio link - did Potgieter on his own what to do as to what to do with the panelty kicks or was he acting on instruction from the flop attack coach  - who was terminated as attack coach together with the firing of Ludeke.     The worst coaching combination ever.

The players aren't useless.

Faggot has blamed the players since Meyers days as Bok coach. He now does the same for those under Coetzee and this fool at the Bulls. It's just another one of his delusional episodes.

I wish the Lions would contract Ulenga and Marutllule.

Even Serfontein is welcome.

Any bets Ackerman turns Pollard and van Zyl into a wizards?

There are quite a lot of Bulls players that are being abused by coaching idiocy - I agree with you on that one.   The fact is that the Bulls have suffered for years under the worst coaching regime possible and one can only expect disaster when it comes to the team - whose coaches have lost the dressing room.

Let's honestly face facts. Excellence is not the criteria, quotas re players and coaches are.  anc rules oaks.Next is the unwillingness to address any issues that could perhaps be addressed.
The bools are a shadow of the great bulls sides including players like Frik Du Preez etc. Old bulle must be turning in their graves. The Stormers have been hard hit by backline injuries already. Now I hear that the best 7 in South Africa, Elstadt is out for months! Their little back three will get chewed up. We have no decent 6 either and have three lightweights in our pack. The Sharks are also not performing. The Bulls and Sharks have good squads.
What is blatantly obvious is that aside from the Lions and to a degree the Cheetahs (they have a limited squad) the vast majority of Super 18 sides look very much more professional and creative that our sides do. The Sun Wolves are far better than the Stormers on attack. Only old fashioned forward dominance against an ordinary Sun Wolves pack saved the day.
The game is run by amateurs and political racist type appointments. They are way behind the curve and have no clue at all and don't even care. They are happy just to be on the gravy train.
The very dense denise then pities the quota coach who has never had much of a clue. Birds of a feather stick together.

This shows that the implications of professionalism are not yet accepted.

SA is crushed by their mythical rugby. And the quota policy is one quick fix to avoid facing that SA rugby is a myth.

The physical edge (if there was a physical edge) and the strategy of intimidation were magnified by the non profesional era.

During the non professional era, players were edging their non professional career as rugby players against their professional career they would get once they were over with rugby.
A strategy based on bullying was more efficient as players had a future to preserve. A physician would step aside to avoid jeopardizing his future career. Players were committed  to the level expected toward a non professional trade.

Differences in size remain in rugby and impacts are at least as fierce as they used to be.

Yet players stepping aside to skip a tackle effort is a rarity. It was not in the past.

The answer is professionalism. Today, players's life is determined by their committment to their rugby career. They build their future with their rugby career.
Doing well during their rugby career means doing well for the rest of their life.
Players can no longer afford skipping a tackle. It puts at risk their rugby career.
This would send them on the bench, then from the bench to unemployment. As they have no other skills but rugby player skill, this means a difficult life. Professional players have no luxury to step aside.

This is one by product of the professional era: bullying people has lost his edge. Players are committed to their rugby career and ready to sacrifice their health because this is when the welfare for their entire life is determined.

SA rugby had the results it had during the non professional era. This thread shows that SA cannot face the consequences of professionalism. The quota policy is an invention to help SA not facing the consequences of professionalism.

SA rugby failed to take the turn of professionalism. Taking the turn of professionalism included facing the reality that intimidating strategies work better on non committed people. This would also lead to put relativity on the performances of SA during the non professional era.

Too hard to do so the quota policy is a convenient quick fix.

It would take decades to refound rugby in SA as the current underlying features are so inadapted to professional rugby.

The solution: termination of rugby.

"Making a stupid kick and handing over possession to the opposing team is lunacy and irrespective of how many phases there were before it led to the scoring of the try.   If that stupid and inaccurate kick was NOT made the scoring of the try would have been unlikely."
Walk us through the missed tackle that led to a try by Retallick (was it?) in the 2015RWC semi-final. The one we lost by two points because of Marfield's "idiocy" in the dying stages of the game. Tell us again how that was not the reason for the loss against the ABs. Tell us again how it was because of Matfield, and  Matfield alone, that the ABs played in the final and not us.
"Looking at the clip I saw Ludeke and Matfield together and Matfield speaking on the radio link - did Potgieter on his own what to do as to what to do with the panelty kicks or was he acting on instruction from the flop attack coach  - who was terminated as attack coach together with the firing of Ludeke.     The worst coaching combination ever"
For the umpteenth time...... the (only) season when Matfield was involved in the coaching team of the Bulls, they comfortably won the SA conference. Why do you keep on stepping on that same landmine?

It seems that both South Africa and Australia are getting worse by the year in Super Rugby. At this stage, do either country have the resources to field three teams?I have been falling asleep when watching some of the "Super" rugby teams.
The Bulls will always employ a former donkey player to be donkey coach. Talk an expansive game at the start of the season- implement a donkey game plan that is 100% dependent on forward domination in the lineouts and mauls,
If anything is going to be terminated- it should be the coaches.

The Dunce donkey is back.   Normally he cannot dispute the two kicks by Morne that cost us dearly and conveniently forgot the penalty that was turned around by Matfield and gave the AB's a huge advantage in subsequent play.   He is "so toe soos 'n lei-os se gat".
And to have Matfield as attack coach is a serious flaw and like in the case of Ludeke he was terminated by the Bulls.   The fact is that Matfield is not a coach's arse or perhaps he is.  Was it Matfield that caused the backline coach to resign even before the kicking out of Ludeke and subsequent cancellation of Matfield's coaching contract?  I can only imagine how much damage those two caused when Slap Chips were trying to get the Bulls backline to play decent rugby.
The Sharks won the Conference in 2014 and then lost the semi by a huge margin - neither made the final - so what is so wonderful about that dofdoos?

@Mike. You just cannot help yourself, can you? You are an incessant fcuking gimp who do not have the ability to discuss things. Your first option is always to attack the person rather than the arguments.
I have never discarded Matfield's mistake in that game but you, on the other hand, do not want to know anything about any other incidents in that game. That is your standard lowlife way of arguing. You latch onto something that one of your pet hates have done and you do not let go. No matter how utterly crap any of your blue-eyed idols have been in the same game. There are so many similar examples of this kind of arguing, one can write a book about it.
You keep on harping about Matfield's involvement in coaching at the Bulls and you keep on trying to convince everybody what a train smash it was. Every time you try to do that, you are reminded that the Bulls were the top SA team in that particular season but no. You keep on harping on the same tune. In addition, his "coaching contract" was never "cancelled". He decided to come out of retirement and he was immediately signed by the very same Bulls who, according to you, fired him as a coach. Show us one shred of evidence that he was fired.
You have this manic drive to discredit any rugby player or person that you hate, and don't, again, try and tell me you hate nobody because these little campaigns of yours does not display anything other than hatred. Only someone who carries a deep hatred inside him would go to these lengths to target certain people for constant discrediting. There are many examples of such.
The so-called firing of Matfield as a coach.
The constant rumours of Bakkies being dropped by Toulon.
Morne Steyn being flogged off by Stade Francais. The minute I saw the recent article about the proposed amalgamation between Stade Francais and Racing Metro, I knew that you would somehow find a way of trying to drag MS through the sh!t again. It came as no surprise when I open the forum a while later and see the thread that you started on the subject.
Morne Steyn being signed by PSG. This must have been your lowest point on this board. Even when you were proven wrong and after it was proven that the story that you have started was done maliciously, you still tried to defend yourself and tried to blame your "misunderstanding" on all kinds of other crap.
You spread this unfounded story about Frans Steyn being favoured and being behind the discourse at the Sharks.
Another low point for you was when you accused Matfield of being involved in a ponzi scheme. You were effectively accusing him of being involved in criminal activities. Even when that was proven to be a blatant lie, you would not concede that it was a lie and that you have merely misunderstood or that there was indeed a media article or something.
You do indeed come across as being a despicable fcuking human being.

I have the same opinion regarding the declining standard of rugby being played in RSA for the past number of years.
The decline is most evident in the Bulls and Stormers. These two unions have mostly been the mainstay of Springbok rugby in the past.
Is it possible that the decline is due to transformation, poor standard of coaches, lack of quality players or has the game of rugby changed and SA has not adapted to such changes .

This collapse probably has many fathers. I think we have lost our warrior spirit, the arrogance of a dominating team. Secondly I think the physical edge is gone....mostly because other teams around the world, with the exception of Ireland, have dipped into the Polynesian talent base. These guys have negated our edge....witness the Bools against Bloos. We had two huge Bok level locks in Lomp and Snyman on in the 2nd half....and they were impotent. ..... Like our Sevens team we need to learn how to win through tactics and skill.....not just showing up.

When you catch  a ball head high it is not brilliant and the lie that he had to jump tto catch the ball is contradicted by the video that was posted.  There was nothing brilliant about that idiocy of Morne - he could have even passed the ball to a player who had no opponents near him to launch a kick - also clear from the video clip.  However - Morne is a poor passer of balls and he would not think that far.
But that is where the whole cover-up ends - justifying the unjustifiable.   The same thing happened in the case of the Perth test - so what can one say other than the understanding of rugby is not really noticeable in the case who constantly cover up for poor players.
Anyway the heading is misleading and the contents of the thread indicates that the idiocy reign supreme on the part of some members.

The SH has a long record of using Islander players. Dating back from the non professional era.
Yet the bullying strategy worked by SA had its successes. Islanders did not take away the alleged SA physical edge.

IR is not the only nation not dipping in islander talent. WA, SC and IT are not overflooded either.

In SR, los jaguares did not look at first glance overflooded by Islander talent.
Yet they showed SA teams as easy meat: between being bruised and winning or not being bruised and losing, professional players take the first option.
SA   teams pick up the ball and run directly to their opponent. Professional players prefer to play against that kind of wired actions rather than facing players who wont bruise them because they run between the gap.

The japanese team that beat SA was not made of big build players. They were rather on the other side. Yet they had that dedication necessary to professional players.

SA rugby did not take the turn of professionalism. This includes the change in mentality caused by professionalism.
Professional players cant afford the luxury of surrending to bullying. It means their eviction from the team. They prefer to take an injury rather than losing their job.
