I want to review this issue quite clearly This was about Bryce Lawrence refereeing and the subsequent actions of the NZRB - resulting in question marks as to their ethics..
The comments all related to a bygone era of partial referees. Many fingers can be pointed to both sides about that time - and it goes both ways. There wer some cases when the SA referees did not really live up to expected standards - but New Zealand referees of the time was no angels either - they were also partial and dreadful as well. Since that era the nature of the sport change to prfessionlim and the appointment of imprtial (neutral) refereeing systems - a change for the better.
Now lets get back to Bryce Lawrence. Lawrence admitted that the Austalians were dissatisfied with his refereeing of the Wallabies - Irish game and laid serious charges against him on that account. No mention of anything about that issue involving any roll by any South Africans. Then came along the Wallaby - South Africa game and he said because of the Australian issue - he froze and fouled up the refereeing of the lattr game. He himself admitted he made a mess of it completely. That was followed by a period of psychologicl treatment to get his self-confidence back
When he subsequently refereed a game involving the Crusaders in Super 15 - the comments of the Crusaders after the game was even worse than any made by any South Africans.
There are two issues that became evident and those I discussed in detail above. In the main the quesstion relates to the ethical standards of the NZRB. That issue remains and no explanation is offered by any New Zealand Members of this site. The question really is - why not comment on those issues raised and not try and sidetrack it by non-incidental comments?
Let me be quite frank - I am one member that said the loss was due to poor play by the Springboks - and has been heavily criticized by Springbok supporters for that statement. I am cosequently not querying the conduct of Lawrence in that game - I am querying the ethical conduct or lack of it by the NZRB - nothing else.
The above is a serious indictment
Mike the NZRU have the right to award the NZ Ref of the Year Award to any NZ ref they chose! Unless of course you are paying their salary and disagree with their decision?
It also seems evident that you and Beeno are DESPERATE to avoid the fact that your Boks Team lost to a better Team the Wallabies - who were Tri-Nations Champions and also their Provincial Team the Reds were S15 Champions.
You were lucky in the 2007 RWC when you did not have to play the Wallabies or the ABs - come 2011, you were NOT going to escape that easy as 2007 and you were found wanting big time! If you thought the ABs were prepared for the Wallabies, you should have seen what plans we had for you ;-)), ;-)), :-)) lols
