Said to myself near the end of the game the ref will find a penalty to give the win to the wee Landers. Sure enough it happened just as i thought!! i amaze even myself! But of course these things are generally easy to predict!!!
The Bulle squandered their chances again and again should have won by at least 20 points. Huge possession and territory advantage. Mitchell wont be pleased. Playing Jenkins at 7 didn't work he doesn't have the pace of a DuToit.
Now we have ou hacked waaaugh back like a bad penny and the chest beating kiwi blowhards doing what they do best!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I take it Goboko's ruck clean out that went directly through the middle of the ruck, and was penalised, costing the Bulls 3 points, won't be discussed either? Of course not. It swings in roundabouts right. Fking bs!

Just another game where shyte calls ruined the outcome.

How many is that this season now? Or rather, how many times has that happened in favor of the Kiwi teams? 3 so far, off the top of my head.

The Landers were perpetually offside throughout the entire game. Somehow, the linesman fails to call even one of those.

But yeah, anyone who talks about it is a bad sport, crazy, doesnt know the rules blah blah blah.

How did they win while having such little ball you ask? Pretty obvious really.

Another one to take on the chin huh?

I'm on the verge of only watching European rugby in future.

Having watched some Kings and Cheetahs games this year it's actually refreshing to see our teams  play against opposition that is not out to bloody break the rules as much as possible.

The difference in when SA play European or Australian teams is stark as compared to when we play Kiwi teams. Normal rugby vs farcical nonsense.

Also nice to know the refs are actually objective and not secretly petrified that they'll be ostracised by their countrymen if they don't help their teams win.

The entire world knows this. From Scotland to Wales and from France to Australia you will find article on top of article, opinion on top of opinion about how Kiwi teams are ruining the spirit of the game by intentionally breaking the rules.

Strangely, no other country has even nearly the amount of accusations against them from so many different sources.

The whole fking rugby world knows what Bryce did in 2011.

As recently as the Lions series last year Gatland openly accused the ABs of cheating. Blocking runners etc. And nobody argued against him because it was clear as day that he was correct. The ABs were cheating.

Surprise surprise they couldn't do it in the second game and instantly the Lions got dividends from their kicks, and won the game. Great big bloody mystery.

Yeah, the entire rugby world is just crazy and jealous. Riiiiiiiiiight.

A thief will never tell you he stole and liar won't ever admit to lying. It's just like that.

Fking sickening actually.

I think you’ll need a long ladder to get down from that horse Plum. You forgot to mention that SBW was sent off in the 2nd Lions test which just maybe had a wee bit to do with them winning the game. You also forgot to bring up the fact that the ref denied the ABs a penalty at the death in the 3rd test which would’ve won the series for us if converted. But no, you whinge and whine like some big Boer Boofhead Cyclops with your so called facts about the world saying the ABs cheat all the time. Tall poppy syndrome it’s called; something the Boks haven’t suffered from for 40 years and unlikely to ever again! Live with your mediocrity or stop watching the sport!

@ Moola

And in case you missed it I made a massive post, with video and  layman's analysis of the response times involved, where I stated that SBW should not have been sent off AND that it ruined the game.

I even said it directly after the test too. It's called being objective.

Plum's very fair post on the SBW incident: 'Moz i 100% agree with your response in a previous post. I decided to make this post to show exactly why i agree. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9t-7QJ44is There a link to the SBW sending off. Go to 00:55 in the video. Note, it's slow motion At that point there are some things SBW is unaware of... 1) Where the attacker will end up heightwise. 2) If the tackler will break the first tackle. 3) Where his own player will end up during the tackle. 4) The possibility of an off-load to the 9 who looks to be circling round. 5) Finally, weather the attacker will straighten or continue to move laterally across the field in the tackle. So, there are five pretty huge variables there. Almost every aspect of the tackle is at that point unknown to SBW. To be able to preempt a course of action is practically impossible. Lets assume that none of us knew the outcome of this tackle and i presented you with this video up to this point and from as many angles you like. Would you be able to guess the outcome? Fact is you wouldn't Neither would i, neither would anyone else. And this is with all the time in the world to think about it. Can we assume that SBW could reliably predict what would happen thus preempt a course of action accordingly? 100% NO! How did he prepare for the tackle? How is SBW set up for the tackle? 1) He hasn't yet dropped his shoulder 2) His body position is relatively low already in anticipation of having to go in low since the attacker is being brought down. 3) In no way is he leading with his shoulder and already has his arms out as though to tackle legitimately. In other words, his setup, from a safety perspective at least, is perfect. Now we play the video clip up to 00:56. Notice that this is 1 second later, in roughly 50% slow mo. Therefore in reality only half a second or 500ms has passed. During that 500ms, SBW went from being completely fine and within the law of the game, to a committing a foul which i believe lost the ABs the series. Not that they lost since it was a draw, but rather that they'd have outright won it. Remember that the defending player also has a right to defend himself, and in this instance that's what i believe SBW was doing since the tackle played out quite strangely. The main point against my reasoning here is that if he went low enough then all the above is circumvented. Take a look at 00:09. SBW's knee is practically touching the ground. Prior to the tackle. For me, that is sufficient proof that is trying to go in low. TLDR: SBW went in low, with arms, into a tackle that played out strangely and was required to respond in what i believe to be an amount(500ms) of time which precludes culpability. We watch in slow motion and he looks guilty as hell. Taking all the factors and real time speed of the incident into account there is no way he should have been sent off. There should never be an incident where a player is powerless in preventing getting carded and having the game ruined. in an incident like this the ref should have to watch the replay in real time and only if he is able to determine in real time that the player is guilty, should the player be sent off. If there is pre-medidated action involved, like hitting a ruck with a shoulder with no arms etc then slow should be used. 0 0 Likes Plum on Ruckers Forum Plum Senior player 2013 posts Mar 22, 2018, 14:11 https://www.humanbenchmark.com/tests/reactiontime/ Just to make the thread more interesting. There is link to a page that tests human response times. My average is 350ms. That is, the page is green, when it turns red, you click your mouse. It tells you the time it took you to press the mouse button after seeing the box color change. So, my average response time to when all i have to do is click a mouse button, is only 15/100 faster than the time SBW had to adjust his entire body and respond to an event for which he didn't know the outcome. Kinda brings the inevitability of the situation and the helplessness of the player into focus a bit.'

Plums piece on SBW above.....my response: 'I believe when contact is inevitable and there is not enough time to get your hands up to protect yourself (your analysis Plum) the tackler naturally presents his shoulder to protect himself. That's what may have been what happened in both the SBW and Aki incidents. Given there was no premeditation (again your point) how do we know the motive of the tackler in that micro second when he makes his last move. In any case, the reactions were the same in both cases....one got a series altering red.....the other got no card, where a red would have destroyed the Grand Slam. There is far too much variability in these game changing calls.....thanks for a great post Plum.'

Haha and what's just as funny is that on numerous occasions I've also said how the Tahs were gifted that title, how it was wrong and how absurd it is that a ref can change the outcome of a season for a team via a mistake or plain bias.

Did Joubert(he was the ref right?) not pen a letter of apology for his mistake to Richie's boys as well?

Laughable

Yes Plum but in your first whiny post above you inferred that the ABs lost the 2nd Lions test because they weren’t allowed to “cheat” so I pointed out that the SBW sending off had a lot to do with it.

The above turned out to be a nasty fight between NZ members and SA members,   I think too many nasty things were said on both sides and hope it does not affect our membership and contributions.

So lets accept the following:-

*   The red card against SBW in the second Lions test was not justified;

*    Lets accept Jackson fouled up badly when he awarded at least one penalty on the basis outlined by Mallett below:-

"Former Springbok coach Nick Mallett believes a blunder by New Zealand referee Glen Jackson helped the Highlanders snatch a last-gasp 29-28 win over the Bulls in Pretoria.

Speaking in the SuperSport studio, Mallett said the match official wrongly penalised Bulls prop Lizo Gqoboka for entering a ruck from the side when he actually came in from behind.

Television replays of the incident near Highlanders' 22 late in the second half supported Mallett, who called the decision "a poor, critical one".

It enabled the Highlanders to relieve the pressure and when they were awarded another soon after, 19-point Lima Sopoaga converted to win the match.

“There was one bit of play I felt Glen Jackson got wrong. That was the second-last penalty that the Highlanders got. Lizo Gqoboka does a very, very good counter-ruck, takes the player, comes from behind and for some reason, Jackson felt he came in from the side. That is a very poor decision and it is a critical decision that, in the end, lost them the game," Mallett said."

Jackson is normally a good ref - but I can remember a case where he fouled up  badly and the issue was raised on NZ TV.   He got a severe tongue-lashing from Sanzaar  then and I suppose another one after the debacle on Saturday,

...notso clevermike obviously SBW deserved a red card that's not disputed ...up til recently shoulder charges were acceptable in SBW's former code rugby league and habits like that are hard for him to break...reckless , clumsy, accidental or otherwise he deserved a red card..

..But obviously after recent losses some of our SA friends are feeling a bit frustrated ,victimized maybe even have a full blown persecution complex...

And i can't see things getting much better this week for them with the Highlanders  favourites to win again against SA... as are the Canes against the Lions ..all the betting agencies have NZ teams favourites as they are every week...

...so my question is why do SA fans get so upset when they lose...when realistically and statistically they were'nt expected to win anyway... maybe some people need to ditch that entitlement mentality, a growing problem in society today..

yeah mike, you're right, "the above turned out to be a nasty fight between NZ members and SA members",... and the whole of it provoked by a clown,... a cretin who watches everything through his SA vs. NZ glasses,.... who is always wondering how the kiwis can do that or think that way (and I'm not a kiwi),... and as everytime those generalizaations, prejudices and cliches are brought to the table they turn very fast into xenophobia,... as here our friend Beeno has been proving for a long time

the guy is so clueless that gets everything wrong everytime,.... the SBW incident was a blatant red card,.... and the klutz thinks that after saying SBW's wasn't a red he has carte blanche to unleash all his complex and insecurities in xenophobic form

the guy has lost the plot in such way that 2 penalties,... yeah, 2 penalties,.... the first one a dubious one in the 61st minute (as there are thousands),... and, especially, the other one in the last minute called by his fellow countryman, the SA assistant referee, who alongside the other SA assistant ref was in charge of calling all the other offsides during the game,.... gives rise to his deliriums about the kiwis, the AB and the kiwi teams with slurs like:

"The difference in when SA play European or Australian teams is stark as compared to when we play Kiwi teams. Normal rugby vs farcical nonsense."

"they'll be (the NZ refs) ostracised by their countrymen if they don't help their teams win.
The entire world knows this. From Scotland to Wales and from France to Australia you will find article on top of article, opinion on top of opinion about how Kiwi teams are ruining the spirit of the game by intentionally breaking the rules."

"As recently as the Lions series last year Gatland openly accused the ABs of cheating. Blocking runners etc. And nobody argued against him because it was clear as day that he was correct. The ABs were cheating."

and, yes, please, go and watch the european rugby

We generally believe in fair play and I enjoy NZ rugby - but when refs destroy games by wrong decisions it bothers most of us.  Joubert made a number of very poor decisions and he is not reffing 15 Rugby anymore.

I like to watch NZ teams playing - it is normally very entertaining and I support the side who plays best - there is no way the Highlanders were the better team on Saturday

Jackson is normally a good ref - but he buggered up on Saturday and that is a fact.  There was at least 2 penalties awarded to the Highlanders within kicking range  that was either totally wron g or seriously questionable.

...notsoclevermike , how lucky are the Wasps to have Sopoaga playing for them next year....could one of yr SA kickers have kicked that final pressure kick from 40metres out... probably not

but it was a great game that could have gone either way and had Naholo been playing it would not have been so close without a shadow of doubt , so the Bulls actually got off very lightly in the end...

...i watched the last twenty minutes and was amazed Jackson was repeatedly penalising the NZ team...not sure what the final penalty count was but i thought Jackson was actually penalising the Landers out of the game and gifting the Bulls the game...but what really won the game for the Highlanders was their solid defensive effort making three times as many tackles as the Bulls - an amazing stat..

Brycy

The penalty count in fact was 12 for the Bulls and 10 for the Highlanders, which really was very high.   However, the highlanders were serious contraventions in the red zone and the Bulls did not kick at goal.

There was also relieving penalties for the Highlanders in the said zone.  There was no penalties where there was not a strict contravention on both sides - bar the penalty at minute 61 - which was not defended by a single NZ member on site - it never should have been one.  Then there was the last penalty where one defense was  used - namely that the linesman gave an indication of off-side.  There was no confirmation of that in the clips of the match - which was shown repeatedly - but at least that one was an effort to make an explanation.  I laughed at he fact that the prop penalized by Jackson was the MOM - that was in fact a direct indication as to what the commentators thought of the bugger-up of Jackson..

As to kicking the last goal - it was an average distance where conversions are routine - not really a pressure kick.   A pressure kick was the 55 meter conversion made by Lambie in the 2014 AB test.   think pressure kicks of that nature is in the range 50+ meters.   I think that Sopoaga may go the Cruden way in Europe - very disappointing indeed.

As to defense = it was not very hot either - despite that the Bulls scored three tries against the two of he Highlanders.   They prevented some other tries to be scored on numerous occasions - but it was partly due to mistakes by some of the Bulls players.

As to the fantasy issue I was very disappointed in the points I received for selecting Ben Smith as OB.

...notsoclevermike sometimes rugby can be a cruel game.... no point in crying about results though,  the test of character is how you pick yourself up after a loss.. the Bulls should be congratulated for their spirit ...for some reason SA sides lift their game when playing NZ teams and we have a decent contest...i hope they bring the same passion and enthusiasm to their game against the Stormers this weekend and it's not a SA snorefest...

...this coming weekend we have two more SA vs NZ contests and i expect SA teams to lift their games again for those as well ...and i'm sure we will have plenty to talk about...look at how much discussion has been generated just from the 82nd minute of last weeks game for example..

And re Sopoaga , it's not the first time he's broken SA hearts, if you recall Ellis Park test between the ABs and the Boks in 2015... on debut he had a real blinder and we won largely thanks to him... so to thank him for winning that test Hansen has'nt even used him since...such is the oversupply of quality 10s in NZ rugby...

Speaking of quality All Black 10s, Richie Mo'unga returns to action this weekend...

OMG the infallible logic¡

He penalised the Landers more. Thus he didn't swing the game their way with two crucial penalties.

And of course by default the Landers weren't offside in defense on numerous occasions either...as usual.

When Jackson had his back turned you could see them taking an extra meter on defense. That's not bending the rules. It's breaking them. It's cheating.

Simple is as simple does huh Foggy?
