Brycy

I think Sopoaga is a good flyhalf, but so were Cruden.   The latter deteriorated where his performance for his club is nothing to write home about. Going to Europe may be the undoing for Sopoaga - as it was for Cruden,

Nobody argues about carter and Barrett being top class flyhalfs - there may be differences of opinion on them -but I rate them of top of the lot.  However - that is not the topic for discussion so lets leave it there.

Almost sure every Saffa here would rather be on the losing team that didn't cheat than on the winning team that did.

Yeah Misty. We should start a special thread and I'll give you all the attention you seem to crave.

I bet you a dollar to a pinch of goat shit you lot would take a win over us and crow about it no matter what dirty tactics you deployed. I did not realise that with the end of Apartheid every Saffa suddenly became a saint.

Anytime prune, start with the list of SA rugby games (internationals, super rugby, curry cup etc) that SA teams have played and had a penalty count of 0 to prove that you Saffas never cheat.

Hell man all your teams cheat and still lose. At least we win wether we "bend the rules" or not

Let’s also mention every home test that SA played pre-isolation where bent local refs crooked visiting teams out of a win. Strange how the SA win % plummeted following the introduction of neutral refs! Who can forget the disallowed try to the French in the 1995 RWC semi and the late (and not so great ) Louis Luyt presenting the ref with a gold watch at the Final after match dinner. Us cheats??? You Jamie’s are past masters....

Well I know very little about cheating prior to the pro era.

Footage is rare but I can easily believe it happened. See, most whites in SA were subjects to a propaganda machine that controlled even the music we listened to.

It's not tough to imagine that the regime, similar to the way North Korea and Russia for example, stop at nothing to prove/maintain the "perfection" of the dictatorship. There's no reason why that couldn't have affected the outcome of sports matches too.

It's quite possible refs were told in no uncertain terms what the outcome should be.

If you'd like I could talk quite extensively on the consequences of apartheid too. Since most of my life has been lived post it's fall and much of the mindset in SA revolves dealing with its consequences, both real and imagined.

If you'd like to discuss more recent games, that I can actually remember watching, then do mention their circumstances and as usual I'll offer an unbiased view of it. NOT dismiss it out of hand as you guys seem to...unanimously.

Here's a good example of such a dismissal.

Ben Smith the Bruce Lee of New Zealand.

Almost two years ago now I made post about how his flying kick style catches are unnatural in that a) it hinders your ability to land on your feet since your body takes a position closer to horizontal and b) nobody in the history of the game has jumped that way to catch a ball.

Not a single kiwi, not one, paid one sliver of attention or considered the point.

It was the usual closing of ranks followed by a medley of insults.

This even after I posted a video of one of Smith's teammates doing it and a Lions player actually having to duck his studs.

Then, surprise surprise, one of your own commentators recently spoke about it during a game.

As recently as this past Saturday Bruce could be seen showing his moves on TV. He now actually aims and kicks out at the opposing player when he does so.

"Obviously spending much time in the dojo of late this one has." Even Yoda agrees!!!

A Welsh player was injured during WC by Bruce doing this.

If one of our players does something like this, EG Eben using his elbow like a rhino in contact most Saffas here would happily discuss it. Some would say it's fine and others would disagree.

What we wouldn't do is close ranks immediately and ridicule anyone who disagrees with our collective.

And there you have the difference between us.

A difference which makes you lot practical non-entities as far as objective opinions and any meaningful dissection of games involving your teams.

A little counter productive, considering this is a rugby board.

Wouldn't you say?

@ Moola, surprisingly, though I was 14 at the time, I remember that French game well. What I also remember was my uncle in his full supporters get-up going on for what felt like hours afterwerds about how the French were robbed.

You couldn't find a nicer bunch of scoundrels than our kiwi friends, a charming bunch of rogues - apart from that crazy loon warped DUD!. The whole rugby world has got their number but they protest very loudly their innocence. Hahahahhahahahaha tough spot they are in!

Fortunately Beeno has been around to help them with this weird delusion but no cure in sight yet.

AB ASS of course has many delusions - e.g. global warming - he is as daft as Al Gore - who actually is nothing more that a money making globalist liar and a RAT of note.

Yes Roxy. Again, your infallible logic comes to the fore.

The question is this. I'll put it very simply. Try answer just this ONE.

Why are the ABs and kiwi rugby in general far and away the MOST accused of cheating?

No body comes even close in terms of cheat accusations. In fact, all other nations combined have not been accused of cheating as much as what kiwi teams on there own have.

Here are your potential answers...

A) because the WORLD is jealous.

B) every body cheats.

A is bullshyte and B avoids the question.

Easy answer. The reason NZ players are accused of cheating is because they beat everyone else so crybaby nations (like you Yarpies) have to find excuses for why your bullyboy steroid-munching thugs can't compete.

Haha the Ben Smith high ball master class.

Note how ZERO mention is made about jumping with studs up.

He claims one should remember to keep your knee raised into contact.

But Ben...This is never how you do it in matches. In matches your BOOT is always raised. Even when youre not jumping at pace to catch the ball.

And somehow your studs are never raised when you jump to catch the ball while no attacking players are around.

Oh wait Bruce, sorry I mean Ben. I think I understand now.

When other players are near, their gravity draws your BOOT to their face.

We love you  Bruce

Sorry to re-open this one - but I watched the highlight package time and again.  The last penalty awarded by Jackson in particular.   So lets start from the beginning  of that episode.   The line out on the ten meter line was won by the Highlanders - no contest and nobody off-side.   The ball was passed in-field and a player was tackled resulting in a maul,   The play then went to the sideline again.   Jackson's arm went out indicating  penalty,

There was two issues here -

*   all the players in the defensive line was behind the feet of the last player in the maul - there was no player off-side;  and

*   the myth that the off-side call was made by the linesman was totally wrong  the linesman followed the runner to the ensuing breakdown point and showed no interest in indicating off-side play,

So the whole story is clear - the two penalties was contrived entirely to ensure a  Highlanders win and it indeed was a disgrace.

...not so clevermike if Jackson made any serious fukups he would'nt be refereeing again this week would he,  let alone in SA...he would've been run out of Africa but instead they have awarded him with another match there this weekend because they know he is a great ref....had he been truly biased the former Chiefs player would not have let the Highlanders overtake the Chiefs on the table this week...

...and plum everyone knows Ben Smith protects himself when he jumps for the ball ...hence they all stay away from him when he's in the air and he does'nt end up breaking his neck from any tacklers.... and has he been penalised for doing that.  no because its obviously a legal tactic...you seem to be the only one that has any issues with that that i can see...stop being a pussy

What highlights are you watching, mike? last year's? or 2016's? or are you using the same wood glasses the village idiot here is using?

the play begins with a lineout, landers take it and open the ball to the backline, a landers player run against the defensive line, he's tackled and a ruck is formed, the matcth-clock is at 79:29,.... Glen Jackson is looking to the ruck and the assistant ref called for the offside, at 79:32 it's very clearly seen the assistant ref with his hand on his chest which is the moment Jackson rise his hand calling the penalty

the landers have the ball so Jackson gives them the advantage and the game continues,... there's another ruck very near the side line and Jackson continues with his hand rised marking the penalty and the advantage,... then there are a couple of pick and goes from the landers and the bulls get a turnover so the ref comes back to call the penalty

No ABF - sorry to differ from you.  There was no sign that any of the players were off-side.   If there were the linesman would have stayed where he observed the off-line call - he did not and followed the Highlanders players going forward/

I watched the highlight package at least five times and I never saw any players being off-side at any stage during that sequence of play.  The players called off-side was behind the last feet of the players in the ruck.  There were in fact three of those, and they were all three on-side.   So which player was off-side heaven only knows.  They sowed the replay from all angles and what was clear there was no player off-side.

However, the worst case where a penalty was "invented" by Jackson was at minute 61 and that makes it two seriously defective and fhlawed decisions on his partIHhth hmahyh have been mistakes on his part only - but in view of the match outcome I am not surprised by the dorm on this site,  .

No mike,....sorry to difer from you,.... you were arguing a very different thing,.... being the main point of your argumentation that Jackson was the one calling the offside penalty in the last minute:

"Sorry to re-open this one - but I watched the highlight package time and again. Jackson's arm went out indicating  penalty,

when it was very clearly called by the assistant ref,... don't say otherwise because it's not truth,.... it's very clearly seen in the footage that Jackson was looking at the ruck and the assistant ref pressed his chest calling for the offside,....

re your new point of discussion, if there were bulls' players offside or not,... it seems that at least, the first and the fourth are offside,... but the angle of the footage is very bad to correctly apreciate it,.... the best situated by far was the assistant ref,... and we all know wha t he called,...

I still with respect differ from you - there were in fact only three players in the defensive line at that stage and none was not behind the last feet of players in the maul.   I also watched the linesman and there was no signs given by him/   In any event e would use his flag to indicate an off-side and he did not.   He followed the ball and I fail to see how Jackson was not looking at the move he called the Bulls off-side on.   Sorry - but Jackson was the one wo initiated te penalty and wanted to give it come hell or high water.
Anyway it is past tense and the Highlanders won a game which they never should have won.   If they play the same way this week - they will need more than the refs assistance to lose by less than 15 points against the Sh arks.

that's simply not truth,... as the rest of your argumentation,.... are you going to make me edit the video to show how wrong you are?

there are 4 bulls players at their left of the ruck, 4,... the first and fourth seem offside,... but as I said it's a bad angle,.... the best situated the assistant and you have no valid tools to argue his decision,... Jackson looking to the ruck and the assistant ref calls the penalty pressing his chest, as they always do nowadays because it's there where they have the mic's button

don't discuss the evident, man

The video, at least on the highlights package on YouTube does not show any offside.

I watched it a couple of times but could be wrong.

My conclusion is that if there were an offside, it was not on the screen.

Anyway, Basque do edit it for us.

Also be sure to show the multiple Highlanders offside situations when the refs back was turned.

I'll link the video below, obviously the offside call will be right at the end.

It is clear that he lifted his hand to indicate penalty advantage at 79:32, but although the AR's hand was in his chest region, it is by no means clear (or even probable) that he communicated with the reff. Looks like Jackson thought the tackler/s(7&/20) just prior to that was/were offside.

Just taken a look....he calls the penalty just as the movement begins. The subsequent play is negated. So he has to have concluded the bools were offside in the defensive line....and he concluded it late, well after the first tackle was made. And I regret to say it's hard to see anybody offside in what was a straight defensive line. As for the touch judge, he does have his hand clearly to his chest before Jackson calls the penalty....and given the penalty is not called as Jackson looks at the play it's reasonable to conclude he got a heads up from the linesman. However there is nothing in the visible play that looks even vaguely like an offside...it seems the Bools were hard done by here.

Draad at 79.32 the assistant has his hand in what looks like an artificial position across his chest......before Jackson raises his arm. It's unclear whether that was just a precaution to facilitate communication or a call.....but given Jackson never called the defensive line immediately, he may very well have got a communication.

Pretty much what I saw too Moz.

I take it the "talk" button is on the ref and linesman's chests? Wouldn't make sense for it to be push to talk though since linesman are often running and it might be tricky to hit the button. I think the ref and linesman have open channels.

It's possible, if you look at the bottom left of the image that the player whose head is just in shot there is offside and maybe that's what the touch judge noticed.

The other possibility is that the Bulls players standing next to the ruck were deemed part of it due to being touched/held on to by the Landers forwards. Would be harsh though.

And as usual the Kiwis close ranks jump straight to we're "crybabies", we're wrong anyway, and and and...

That's the kind of BS patriotism I was referring to in another post.

Part of being a sports fan is being able to debate crap calls...objectively. They're happy for us to discuss bad calls that went against them but as soon as it's for them then everyone's a crybaby and everyone's jealous.

We are supposed to act as if that is normal. It's not.

There is one very clear issue here - no ball carrier was tackled before he reached a straight linhe from were the ruck took place (ie the gain line) and the tackle was from the front and not from behind or from the side.  So no player was off-side when the ball left the hand of the scrummie.   So no off-side was possible,   I watched the linesman involved and he kept his arm bended and his  hand near his chest - so if that means he made an off-side call it can only be  assumed and factually most unlikely,

However, Cloudy is right - no use crying over spilt milk but nonetheless a warning that Jackson may try and make sure that NZ teams wins - he was ci\aught out by NZ in the past and admitted he made a crucial mistake, but that mistake caused an N Z team win - so watch out for those "mistakes" in future.

:/ Cloudy

You really are hanging it out there. Just so you know. And despite what you may think, I'm trying to take the high road.

My apologies if I offended YOU personally, or made derogatory comments about YOU as a person.

What you'll  find, if you take the time, is that it is in fact you who made the vast majority of personal insults. That's not debatable, it's in black and white up here in this very thread.

Do however note that the above does not stop me commenting on kiwi culture. And if that offends you personally there's not a great deal I can do about that.

Moz, I've rather gentlemanly up to this point.

And Mike, it's not crying over spilt milk. It's a culmination of constant fuckery that needs calling out. We all know it.

One can go years without so much as saying anything derogatory about a result from a kiwi game but the God damn moment you mention something they immediately gang up and commence the usual BS. That's before they've even stopped to see if there exists any merit in the claim. And it speaks volumes about AB fans.

Then we're supposed to succumb to their low tier virtue signaling and make nice. Give me a break.

It's like trying to debate the Step ford wives. Haha!

Let's turn the tables and imagine we behaved that way.

It's bloody inconceivable.
