Burger not the ineffective forward runner last Saturday.

 As you can see from the Chart, Schalk made 59 metres in 26 carries with two offloads. The dead runners were our two locks....who averaged about half a metre per run. Schalk did turn over the ball three times, but our locks in less runs turned it over 4 times combined. They ran about the same number of times combined, as Schalk, but Schalk gained 4.6 times the metres.
You will hear a lot of bleating about Schalk because it fits the story line, but nothing about our unproductive locks because supposedly with their physicality they would dominate the gain line.

The bleating is not about Schalk Burger at all - even though you did not evaluate two  issues on his part - him losing ball possession 3 times and giving away 2 penalties is just not on.
There is also a fact that Burger got his balls in open field play as first receiver of the ball from the scrummie - while the carries of the locks were in traffic.
However, the real bleat is about the idiocy to use that strategy and cut out effectively the flyhalf and the rest of the backline from getting decent ball.  This could perhaps have been tried out a few times as a variation - but it was not and was standard play throughout the game against the Welsh.   The same strategy was used continuously and with disastrous consequences in the Japan test earlier in the tournament.

Probably overdone. We needed to move the ball into 12 channel before taking contact. But I doubt Schalk was in less traffic than the locks, he just wasn't part of a pod.  

 I think Burger is an effective runner but we could mix it up more, give the opposition a bit more to think about.
Let's hope Pollard turns it on against the ABs  like last year
