Back to the future captain debate

Of the youngsters in contention, who have a history of captaining sides, the following are in contention

Moerat - (high on the list as was clearly earmarked early on - but being dropped recently won’t have done his chances any favours)

Vincent Tsituka

Sacha

Buthelezi

Nortje

Ludwig

Elrigh Louw

Of these Sacha and Nortje (unfortunately) are current starters so have the inside track on the rest - Elrigh Louw is close as is Vincent especially once Siya and PSDT are done

It will probably be Sacha...he looks black enough to forget the sin of having a white father.

I don't like Sacha for captain. Not yet. I'd say he needs a couple of years to find his feet and cement his name.

Why are you guys not keen on Hanekom?

I’ve not included Hanekom as I don’t think he has ever lead a side before, which for now tells me leadership is not his thing.

Sacha is the obvious on that list given he is a dead cert to start but can’t see them burdening him that responsibility until he has fully settled at test level

"Why are you guys not keen on Hanekom?"

He is not really in the team yet...only potential at this stage...great potential but stil unrealised potential.

...but he looks just like Captain America.

Surely that's enough to qualify him!

Imagine him Roos and Wiese in the back row.

"Imagine him Roos and Wiese in the back row."

...with Elrigh, Tsitsuka, Eskom, Kwagga, Kobus Wiese

Mozart

Well I did Smit’s changing our strategy against Fiji. Has there ever been one Bok who has said anything about Kolisi’s on field decision making for 7 years now.

Att last something real. In his book Smith mentioned that there was no game plan in the WC final match in 2007 to plan fopr scoring of tries, The so-called White game plan was nothing other than the forwards trying to bash up and try and beat the English that way. I can assure you the same shit you mentioned as also present in the atch against Tonga ibn t he same series, Ton ga led in scoring for 70 minutes and the only way e Springboks in an atrocious performance wone was scoring of two tries in the last 10 minutes of he ame when the style of play was changed,

So the problem was with the coaching and not the captaincy. Now 18 years later White was fired by the Bulls for exactly the same reason.

By the way when Kolisi left the field on a number of occassions Du Toit took over h e captaincy - it also happened in the second test against the AB's.

The fact is that I never had any problem with Kolisi as captain. Under Kolisi's captaincy the Springboks won more trophies than ever happened since 1995. Aside from the captain there always are a strong leadership group of players in test teams and decisions are taken by the captain ogether with the team leadership cadre in any test match. On field decisions are always taken in that way and every test player will confirm what I wrote above.

Brilliant Mike so what Smit was saying is that Joke White had no plan so he came up with one on the field

Sounds about right when it comes to Joke

World cup winning Springbok captain John Smit says on Rassie Erasmus "It's hard to defend him." and "made us, as a rugby team, so easy to dislike."

So Darkness provide us a quote of Smit saying that…it should be easy, you are quoting it.
