The Jannie bashers obviously latched onto the card he was given. But was it fair? His left arm on the opposite side of the camera was coming around. And in any case he was joining an established ruck/Maul....not making a tackle. There was nothing dangerous or malicious in it. Compare his "transgression" with the failure to hand out anything to Hooper who sprinted in and dive bombed the ruck.
Sickening double standards. The TMO in our game was trigger happy, looking  to get the Boks as we saw from his attempt to get JP carded for his tackle later.

I t's like 2007, the same day Schalk was banned, Carl Hayman got away with eight punches to the face of the Romanian hooker in broad daylight. Funny what refs see and conveniently don't see.

 i agree moz
george aoub.....i think that is how you spell his surname was intent on getting a bok booked. you could hear it in the commentary. thank goodness for technology so that we could hear the intent and see for ourselves whats going on.
the issue of the refs has been a issue for some time now but its good to see that there is now far more transparency in the game than before. jannie's yellow was correct to the law but hooper should have been yellowed as well.
our ref in my view had a great game so i dont have much complaints. sadly there will always be those 50/50 calls that you wont go your way but the players at this level should know the rules and understand that foul play is going to be under the microscope even more.
management and players need to think about these things in pre game preps and training. there is no more excuses.
fyi i am sure hooper will get sighted for that no shoulder clean out. lets just check the news. if he gets away with it then its a massive injustice and brings the rwc citing team into the spotlight.

You have lost the plot again and in the process try and get away from certain factual issues.
For the past more than a year there were serious question marks about Jannie's scrumming and also his virtually total lack of contribution to other aspects of the gameJannie never lifted the other parts of the game, but in the first two tests this year he looked reasonably good in the scrumming.   So his selection to the Springbok squad was a given.
However, did he justify his selection in the three WC games.
*   Jannie was reasonably solid in scrumming against the Japanese and in the main the scrum was either going back slightly or being solid - for the rest he has a zombie-type game - nothing contribution as such.
*    Against Samoa his scrumming went to pieces and he gave away 3 penalties as a result.  He was what he was during the most of 2014/2015.
*    The show he put up yesterday was not very convincing.  The Scots scrumming is not their strong suit - yet Jannie was unconvincing in the scrum.
The issue centers not around the yellow card - but around his performances thus far in the WC tournament.     The yellow card was given and to try and soft-soap it is same as you tried with Fat Fransie's red card in Super 15.   Despite your desperate efforts to soft-soap that one he got a 5 week ban.   So my advice is accept it and don't try to write it out of the history books,  Look at the players general contribution.

Jannie hit the ruck and elbowed the guy in the side of the head! Lucky he didn't get a red!!Hooper should definitely gone too. Thought Farrell was unlucky.

Hooper deserved a penalty. Burgess hit on Hoopers jaw deserved a yellow. Farrell deserved the yellow he got.

As far as I can remember, the Goats played a whole lot better without useless Jannie on the field.

Definitely better without Useless Jannie.  De Jager was clever and started a driving maul from a shortened line out catching the Scots off guard.  The maul made bout 20 meters progress before the Scots managed to slow it down.  The ball went to Du Preez and from him to Pietersen who scored a try.
This type of thing would never have happened with Matfield as calling lock.  Being physically-deficient Matfield rarely starts driving mauls from a standard line-out and would never start one from a shortened line-out.
You need some physical strength to do what De Jager did  - and Matfield has not any of that.   It just show what rubbish is in place with Matfield on Jannie being two me mbers of our Tight 5.

Forgetting both Jannie and Hooper, the penalty against Pietersen was a joke! He did note drive the player down, he lifted him and even supported him back to earth again, the player folded himself in such a way that he landed on his head....the Darwin Award inspired Scott should have been given a penalty for being an idiot!

this is pure BS,...... so Jannie didn't deserved his yellow because another player (Hooper) in another match made a similar (or even worst , if you liked more) offense and didn't get the yellow? WTF?

Firstly, both Jannie and Hooper deserved the yellow. And then, each match is different (it could have been a very quiet match and be the first infringment, or a very dirty match, it could have been warnings sooner or not,....) and each ref and TMO are differents. As the ref issue is now all we can ask is for being consistent in a match with both teams.

Moz, ref may have got it wrong, but if the citing goes ahead Hooper will probably land up worse off than Jannie. Still, with the help of a third umpire, they should have got the call right on the day.

Maybe it's unavoidable, but the evolution of the game is totally in the hands of these whistle blowers....and a lot of it is bad. Five years ago if you had the ball in hand and you were held up....you retained the ball if you had some forward momentum and brought the ball to ground. At this WC as long as the defender also has his hands around the ball....it goes the other way.

What a disincentive to attack....better to just kick the ball.

And when last did you see a real power tackle in rugby....the sort of thing de Wet Barry used to do.....knocking the player backwards off his feet. It doesn't happen because the slightest timing error and you are in the bin or worse yet, out of the game.

The rules are a muddle and the guys applying the rules have agendas....like the TMO who wanted to card JP. Rugby is being killed by accountants and school teachers....tin pot dictators.

"So you agree it was double standards."

are you always such a smartass, or it's just when you don't know what to respond?
There are ALWAYS double standards. As I said, each match and each ref and TMO are differents, but this can never be a reason AS YOU PRETEND for not deserving a yellow.

You are the only one with an agenda, to defend your preferred players (Jannie) or to bash the hated ones (Lood) but, please, try a little harder coz your late excuses are really pathetic,...... Jannie didn't deserve the yellow coz another player in another match did something similar and wasn't carded?
and Lood shouldn't be in the starting XV coz he doesn't call lineouts for Etzebeth or pass him the ball?
couldn't be more pathetic

Basque look at your first sentence a few posts above....you were the smartass. To be honest you aren't even on my radar screen, I don't get anything out of your little hissyfits. But then you trail me round the site like a bad odou r and I am forced to fumigate you....it's your own fault.

Don't worry about what this dunce write - whenever anybody reacts negatively to his moronic posts and point out the truth to him - he goes personal,  It is better not to be on his radar screen situated within his toilet, because what he comes up will be shown on his radar screen as sh!t.
I do not bother to read anything more than the first sentence  of a posting to know what will follow - he has no idea about rugby and try to tell his critics they are inconsequential because they differ from his lunacies,
Best advice - when he tries to get away with his normal lies and BS just correct him clearly and effectively.  It would not deflect him from his road to nowhere, but at least it will inform other members of the real position.

Firstly, I don't trail you anywhere,.... don't be so presumptuous,..... it's very simple, if you write posts in a forum you can be answered, don't think of trailing and personal issues,..... I don't give a toss about you personally but I will answer the posts that I consider nonsense everytime I like to,..... and if you don't like it, it's also very simple,.... don't write posts
