69 runs in the Six Nations....2 defenders beaten both against Italy. Versus France and Scotland 47 runs without beating a single defender. Why do the critics think a vast number of two metre runs beating no defenders is exceptional? This is old style Bok loosie play....not done very well.

Back in the days when telly was new to SA I always found it funny when instead of reading "Replay" it said "Kyk Weer" in Afrikaans. I guess it makes sense but at the time it sounded funny.

Mozart
Scored three tries as well - but in your book that does not count .
Nevertheless your heroes that you refer to elsewhere had the following try scoring history:-
Alberts - 7 tries in 8 years - 43 tests (1 try every 6 tests)Louw - 8 tries in 7 years - 52 tests (1 try every 6,5 tests)
CJ Stander - 6 tries in 2 years - 13 tests (1 try every 2 tests)
Compare the tackle stats and ball carry stats of the three players mentioned and Stander is way ahead in that as well. Same with possession turnovers.
Are you weird or something - plank?

Ah the enigmatic Lambie, aka. the lead singer at the Drakensberg Boys Choir, brave, I can recall early in his career him resolutely tackling big marauding ABs . But, like another ex-Guppie, Ruan Pienaar, he'll probably go on to amass over 90 test caps, leaving us bewildered as to how the hell they achieved such milestones.

Hmmm . . . so reading this thread we're supposed to believe that CJ Stander - Munster Player of the Year; likely British Lions tourist and the first forward in 6N history to score a hat-trick of tries - is a crap player . . . and that Patrick Lambie is a hyped up nobody?
Pffffffffffffffffhahahahahahaha!
The levels of rugby knowledge on this site are laughable at times.
The CJ bashers will be wiping a lot of egg off their faces if he makes the British Lions squad and goodness knows what they'll do if he makes the test match 22!
I sense the Lambie bashers are going to be very disappointed in June when Lambie is named Bok flyhalf. The other candidates are nowhere this season and only the very ignorant or very biased would dispute that Lambie is currently head and shoulders above his Bok #10 rivals.
But hey, don't let me stop the comedy on this thread!
LMAO!

Rooinek much of what you say is true regarding the Flyhalf situation in the country at the moment, because we are lacking in that area. Lambie may make the cut in June, but not because he is brilliant or anything, but because everyone else is shit.

Sorry giveithorns - I was reacting to Mozart.
Basically I believe players should be assessed on a merit performance basis - not on the basis of prejudice. Mozart is famous to grab one issue and runs away with it - ignoring all other aspects of play. You will notice he never deals with scoring of tries, hence my comment that according to him scoring of tries is a deadly rugby sin.
I am looking at this stage at Jean-Luc du Plessis as potential Springbok flyhalf. I like what I saw of him - he has a rugby brain - make quick and accurate assessments and does not kick balls away aimlessly.
Lambie is not as bad as he is made out - but he is a more conservative player and at best solid.
Pollard was disappointing after showing massive promise when he was younger. Potentially he is a very good flyhalf - but his first two matches this year was disastrous. In fact the Bulls backline performed better when he was replaced. Vey disappointing - but he could get over the groove he is in.
Lastly there is Goosen - should he return to play rugby. If he does he is another player for consideration. He was injury-prone as a youngster - but really is a very good flyhalf - he was selected by the French club players as the player of the year last year.
I would rate the flyhalfs at present as follows:-
1 Jean-Luc du Plessis2 Patric Lambie3 Johann Goosen4 Elton Jantjies5 Handre Pollard

In the first instance I do NOT drink Brady - in the second instance I drink Whisley and Soda or clean.
You are such a dimwit your joke is not funny.
I do select players on merit - that is why Matfield would never have made any team after returning from retirement - he was atrocious in all matches played and there is plenty of evidence supporting my statement.
Definitely also no Morne Steyn - an unthinking donkey kicker clueless about reading of the game and a inaccurate donkey kicker to boot.

Lambie may make the cut in June, but not because he is brilliant or anything, but because everyone else is [removed].
Well said, exactly my thoughts as well but the typical South African mentality is not because he's the best in his position, it's because he's showing a bit of form whereas the better players in that same position are not. Lambie has been around for a while, what exactly is his claim to fame....he is bog ordinary, I can see the Kiwis and all the better teams licking their chops at the prospect of Mr. Docile at flyhalf.
08 Mar 2017, 12:12#26
@Mike. Why am I not surprised that you would find a way to drag VM and MS into the argument again? This is about Johan Goosen as a flyhalf contender when he has supposedly p!ssed off out of rugby and also haven't played flyhalf in ages but you have him there on merit and performance nogal.
I'm 100% sure that if I made the joke about whiskey and soda, you would have turned around and said that you don't drink whiskey. Who, in his right mind, fcuks up whiskey with soda in any case? Oh, and I clean whiskey? Really? Clean whiskey?

Lots of discussion but no plausible explanation as to why a slow stampkar flank who has beaten 2 Italians in 69 runs is a great ball carrier. This thing is stunningly obvious but the PC view is he is a great runner.....he carried the ball 24 times in the last test! So what?

Mozart
Stander is no slower than Alberts or Burger was and his carries were vastly better than that of the two players mentioned. So what else can one deduce from the above other than that you are virtually alone in denigrating Stander.
Everyone is wrong - inclusive of coaches and players - only Mozart is. So lets accept that situation and accept that prejudice is the determining factor in player performances..

Agree with those who reckon Lambie would have wow'ed us by now if ever he was going to. He just seem ordinary to me.
And indeed he has started in a good few embarrassing losses for the Boks too. I don't agree that he should get selected by default just because we think we don't have better. It's not possible that we don't have better. He is also slow as hell for such young guy.
At this point I'd take both inexperienced Stormers 10s, Jantjies and even Schoeman ahead of Lambie.
And yes, Jantjies has made a few more errors than his counterparts but yet again he to date created more and displayed ample more skill. Until the situation changes I'll back him. Is it only me that thinks this?
Or we can just do what we did last year pick Lambie on reputation. I mean it worked out so well when Strauss was selected that way last year.

How many tackles did he break with an average territory gain of 1,8 meters? Another Mozart myth - and the last few games Burger was more noted for spilling balls than off-loads when he played as the stand- in flyhalf.

Thanks, now I remember...ordinary, plain damn ordinary.
And that's the point Mike, the point that escapes most on here..."he was better than Pollard but that doesn't say much."
I have two wishes as far as rugby goes...(1) that I never see Jantjies in a Bok jumper ever again and (2) that the Boks turn the corner and head in the right direction.
Unlike UrineRooi I don't hate the national coach to wish the team lose.

Alberts and Stephanie against England last year....both on the flank:
............
F Alberts 0/0 0 1/2/11 30 1 1 0 1 17/1 0/0 1 0/0
......
F du Toit 0/0 0 0/3/11 4 0 0 0 0 15/3 4/0 1 0/0
..........
Both run the ball 11 times....Alberts makes 30 metres with a clean break and a defender beaten. Stephanie makes 4 metres with zip.
..........
Stephanie misses the Pom scrumhalf twice for two tries.....Alberts makes 17 of his 18 tackles.
....... ...

What is Alberts career average? Meter gain 1,8 per carry, Alberts was the worst prop playing at loosie we ever had in the Springbok team. Was nearly 30 before being a starter and played on reputation only.
He also had the worst tackle stats for a loosie I have ever seen - career-wise. Go and check his stats - I did it oodles of times on this site and your comment is that his stats do not represent his "true value to his r ole in the side". Useless Fatso never did ball protection and recovery because he was too slow to get to breakdown points timeously and he could not see the ball on the ground because his stomach got in the way..
