Beeno

Alberts did not go well anywhere - whether it was NH or SH conditions.   He was at best a  slow prop pretending to be a loosie - a real plodder if there was anyone earning that designation.   Compared to Alberts Stander was je t sped.   ,

Damn i was as sick as a small hospital yesterday.  Head is just coming back to normal now.  Mike thank you for the info and your very kind offer.  will give you a shout when closer to the dates.
Beeno my last comment on this is that you must be very happy CJ is no longer qualified for SA as with Rassie in the helm. CJ  would walk into the SA team.  I have heard Rassie speak about CJ and he is a huge fan.
Now we have a win win for all.  You don't want him and we love him
Have a great night.

Looks like Munster are going to get another plodder...  Talk is we are signing Dries Swanepoel from the Bulls (probably only short term though as we are riddled with injuries in the backs).

What is he like?  Seen some highlights but dont know a lot about him

Dries Swanepoel is useless. A small forward pretending to be a backline player. He cant catch, pass or run any sensible lines. He is a discard of John Mitchell.

Great news for Stampkar fans. In the match against Toulon he actually managed to beat a tackle. Of course it took 16 runs and 2 turnovers conceded to produce that tackle beat....and the 20 total metres gained hardly leads the class. But still one tackle beaten in 16 runs is a whole lot better than 1 tackle beaten in 96 runs. Go Stamp!

...Congrats Boorat on another famous victory against a star studded Toulon team... how annoying it must be to some when Stander and his Munster team keeps on their winning ways... and doubly so when Stander comes out on top of his opposite number the once great Springbok no8 Duane Vermulean -whatever happened to him a much bigger question...i doubt you'll hear the Stormer supporters speaking about him in the same condescending and derogatory terms despite him being a mere ghost of his old self...

Brycy

The problems with Vermeulen started when he was injured in 2015 and then was carried by Myer from his hospital bed into the WC.   He was so-so in the WC - not the player he used to be.  He then went to Toulon and during his time at the Club he suffered a series of injuries, which affected his performance at the Club.   I watched a number of games of Toulon in which he played and the best descrption of his performances can be described as being largely invisible.

Earlier this month it was  it was mentioned that Vermeulen is not renewing his contract because he wants to return to SA to gain a place in the 2019 WC,  Whether that is the real reason for his departure from Toulon is questionable since there was no reports of him negotiating a contract and the Stormers  indicated  that he was not in negotiation with them.

In the game yesterday Vermeulen was sub-par - Stander was twice the player he was .

Problem is he is on the wrong side of 30 and his performances since 2016 were not really up to standard,     So who wants him back?     .

...if you're playing in a losing team then the only stat people will remember is that you lost...

interestingly though how Stander despite being so ineffectual according to some, has in only the last couple of  years scored over 40 points for Ireland... more than four times as many as Vermulean (10) has for his country...how can that be when Vermulean has had a longer international career....

...Stander is still young as well so he could easily double or treble this number whereas Vermulean could be all was hed up and looking at retirement...

I have been to many Munster matches and it was up there with the best of them.   There are a couple of things obvious things that you do not appreciate from the TV.

1)  The atmosphere.   Munster is known in up north for its 16th man and the crowd didnt disappoint.   Thomand was rocking non stop from 20 minutes before to 20 minutes after the match.  I can only recall a handful of times it was this intense.

2)  The Toulon team is HUGE.  It was the Gullivers against the Lilliputians.  Their backs were twice the size of our  forwards.  But as the expression goes.  it is not the size of the dog in a fight but the size of the fight in the dog.

3) The speed, skill  and ferocity of the game was at a top end international level.

The small men bet the biggest and richest team in the world in the quarter final of the European championship.  I am bias but from 1-23 the Munster team were legends.  Bugger the begrudgers.

Leinster will win this year.  They have massive strength and depth.     We have a good chance against Racing though they are favorites .  We played them twice this year one each and we should have won both but injuries....damn injuries.

Prejudice will ALWAYS make a fool of yourself and the team of the week iro the Eurpopean Cup-winners quarterfinals has one inclusion you would hate to see:-

  1. CJ Stander, Munster

Like Vunipola, a place earned by sheer, mountainous work rate.

It was far from the most dynamic performance that we have ever seen from Stander, but the No 8 refused to be budged on the gain-line, piling up jackhammer-like tackles and short, powerful drives around the fringes.

Yannick Nyanga also put in a good showing for Racing down in the Auvergne.

Take it your way - after all the know-it-all expert on site knows better than anybody in the world.

What is interesting his direct opponent in the game on Saturday was Vermeulen - and he was twice the player Vermeulen was.

nope Stampkar....16 runs, 20 metres 1 defender beaten, 2 turnovers conceded Vermeulen....13 runs, 19 metres, 2defenders beaten, 1 turnover conceded. Vermeulen was twice the player Stamp was...in terms of ball security, metres per run and defenders beaten.

Why are you dishonest in the usage of stats?   Just look at the tackle stats and Vemeulen’s  contribution to the team effot in that regard.

If you want to be honest you will quote those as well

Okay Toulon made less than half the tackles Munster did.....and Stamp was Munsters' man for a bunch of process tackles. He made 21 tackles out of 24 attempts, Vermeulen made 5 out of 6 attempts.. My guess is Vermeulen is not programmed to make these process tackles because he is still very effective at turnovers, so he is second man....something which is above Stamp's pay grade, so he might as well make routine tackles. Does that help.

Vermeulen at present is still something Alberts never was - namely a loosie, but the problem is his work rate has deteriorated drastically and he is thus  not a candidate for international selection anymore,

Mozart

Let me explain this in detail.   The playing  conditions between NH and SH differ and has an impact on in particular the loosies,

In NH conditions a slow loosie may be successful, whereas that same loosie will be lost playing in SH conditions.    So let  us go back to where this discussion on Stander started originally,    At that time Meyer insisted on having three very slow loosies in the Springbok team – that could work  in NH conditions – but was an abortion in SH conditions.  It could perhaps have worked out if all three loosies were in reality loosies – but Alberts was not one.

At that stage there were real loosies available and one of those were Stander.   However – he was not a speedy loosie at all and still is not one – the difference then was he was ten times better than the zero on the contract - Alberts.   His game would not fit in well in SH conditions  - but was  better than what Louw and Albert were capable of.

Now back to the present scenario – even  if he was available for selection I would not support him at present as a Springbok loosie,   Du Preez is by far a better loosie in SH conditions  and there are others as well.

That does not remove the fact that in NH conditions  Stander is a good loosie and fact is that it is accepted by the Irish and by  many other  rugby circles in  Europe.

Well I don't buy that Stampkar is a better overall loosie than Louw. Most of the ball carrying CJ does could easily be substituted by a prop like the Beast. Louw was very effective on the deck in the WC semi against NZ.....Stampie hasn't got that skill. And Alberts was far more like Billy Vunipola...a power runner. Let's simply agree to disagree.

So this is not career-defining according to you - let me remind you that this is in fact a new angle - you never used that angle before  in the case of Alberts and Fat Fransie whose beating of defenders was virtually non-existing.   In the case of Alberts he never reached 96 meters territory  gained in ALL the tests he played in and his defenders beaten  was consequently five times worse than Standers.

In an effort to protect the useless non-loosie you keep on repeating unsubstantiated garbage.

Well here's something to chew on you old piece of shyte. In Alberts first two games for Meyer he gained 60 metres and 37 metres.....beating In 2 games the 96 metres you claim he never made. And he beat 7 defenders vs Stamps 1...in 20 runs vs 96 runs. Go back and watch your seuntjie rugby, perhaps they believe you there.

So Tokkie....I know you are reading this, even if you don't have enough integrity to apologize for your lie. Still here's another nail in your Alberts coffin. Don't choke on your breakfast: 'Paris - South African loose forward Willem Alberts has extended his contract with Stade Francais, the Top 14 side announced on Tuesday. The 33-year-old's new deal covers next season with an option for one more at the club which from next term will be coached by his compatriot, Heyneke Meyer. The imposing forward, nicknamed the 'Bone Collector' for his bruising runs and bone-crunching tackling, joined Stade after the 2015 Rugby World Cup from Sharks. Stade eased their Top 14 relegation worries with a bonus-point victory over champions Clermont last weekend. Alberts has played 43 Tests for the Springboks and scored seven tries.'
