What are your thoughts on including Jacques Potgieter in the squad.  Not good enough, Not available or What? Just interested. i cant remember when last he played for the Boks but he's been a revelation for the Tahs. Cheers.

 Monsterbok
I think that his inclusion would be a positive.  I would say he is 10 times the player  Alberts is - and brings one thing to the Boks that was missing on Saturday - another line-out option.   Potgieter would add to stronger Tight 5 play and is good on the deck - elements entirely missing in the case of Alberts, who cannot recover balls at breakdown situations and is normally not involved in mauls - preferring to stand around behind those.  The difference between Potgieter and Alberts is massive - the one is a serial loafer, the other a very hard worker.
Whether Potgieter should actually be in the team itself should depend on the injury situation.  My preferred loosie combination would be Brussow or Kriel at 6, Coetzee at 7 and Vermeulen at 8 - with Burger on the bench.  Should anyone of those players be  injured Potgieter should be in the mix.

...not so clever mike yr thoughts on Richie McCaw's try...thanks mate  - i know you always have nice things to say about how his game is always improving...

...funnily enough in 2013 Samoa executed that same lineout move resulting in a try against the Springboks in SA.. a case of those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it you could say...

Brycy - dear Friend
I did not think of any AB's tries -neither of the way McCaw landed on his ass when he tried to tackle De Allende - my thoughts were entirely with what was to be done in the Springbok team.

McCaw's try came from a massive Bok mistake. Whoever was responsible to mark McCaw did not do it and I suspect that would have been Francois Louw.

I think the expectation from the Boks is that the AB's, as with most teams would set up for the driving maul. They jinx us and we fell for it. Richie knows we're not so bright bru!

Come now Mike ... the blindside flanker has a different role to play and it's not that of an opensider.

He's a ball carrier and traditionally the larger of the two flanks.

Potgieter has a lot more to offer than Burger who by the way is by a long shot not the man he used to be. He's spent and should really consider retiring from test rugby.

Potgieter is a lot more physical, doesn't go to ground as easily as Schalk who tends to be very upright at impact and gets knocked back a lot more than one wants.

He's being selected currently on reputation and doesn't deserve his place in the Proteas mix.

Much rather have Potgieter there than Schalkie.

I did not rule out Potgieter now did I? However, I did not want to give Mozart a second seizure by coming down hard on Burger as well the way I did with Fat Alberts - the unfit .  Burger was poor in line-outs and was active otherwise - but we have to start getting over the oldies in the team and build a squad for the future.
