Conservative Meyer?

One of the things that really irks me is the way people parrot the same nonsense endlessly. In terms of Meyer, it's that he is too conservative. It's a complete fallacy. The way the Boks are organised around the field. The patterns and plays even when play breaks down. The layers and width to his gameplan, the way it empowers players to make decisions. He is anything but conservative. That doesn't mean everything goes to plan, or that he doesn't make mistakes. I disagree with some of the selections he made. I also disagreed with how he opened up the game for the backs in 2012 only for Goosen. I thought it was very unfair to Morné, and helped create a perception of him that wasn't true. He sullied his record when going to players who have a history of failing at this level. He feels the pressure easily, and is too willing to please everyone. As predicted, he was shown no mercy when the fan favourites let him down. But to say that he is conservative? That is absolutely dishonest.

No, I wouldn't say those days are gone at all. Far too much of that in evidence against Japan last week. 

The Japan game was an aberration. The team was naive to think they could beat Japan at their own game, a game they pay better than South Africans. It was a tactfical blunder punctuated by bad selections, like Lambie, Pienaar, Mvovo, Steph, Bissie et al. 

 
Cover his frailties as best you can, Inbred ... it doesn't change the fact that he has selected conservatively right from the onset.

He is narrow minded ... has no vision whatsoever ... and is simply just bad for South African rugby.

It's time he goes!!

Selected conservatively you say? How about starting with a rookie lock pairing, new loose trio and restructured midfield? Then went through nearly 10 different outside centres, 6 fly halves and inumerous combinations.... yes, very conservative. And tailoring gameplans to individuals, that was always done under previous coaches. You've got it more wrong than your prediction of a loss!

How about selecting fat Gurthro at loosehead ... or what about bringing the tired Bakkies back into the mix ... or trying to convince Juan Smith to return to test rugby ... or playing JJ and Taute at 13 ... or Matfield as old and useless as he is ...

Then we also have the useless scrummie HouGat that he favoured for a spell ... not to mention the one dimensional Morne Steyn.

He even went as far as selecting Dean Greyling and Werner Kruger to play for the Goats.

How about the cowardly Spies ... hmmmmmmmmmmm??

They were all flops ... all conservative ... all laughable selections ... 4 years of indecision.

Sorry boy ... he's as conservative as they come.
