Dan Carter on South African beating .

In an excerpt from his new book he describes how after the 2002 Junior World Cup the team went to a 'dodgy' nightclub in Johannesburg.After a while the loudspeaker ordered all Kiwis out and as they went to leave fights with bouncers and SA fans broke out ,at least one Kiwi was pistol whipped [ Sam Tutopou ] and shots were fired .Several junior ABs were injured in the attack . Then in 2003 he was robbed at gunpoint in Cape Town.

He has nothing to complain about. How many times has he been in SA and he got the crap end of the stick on only two occasions?

 So this is an ordinary night out in SA ? And this is treatment of ABs by saffa fans is de riguer  ?I can understand the crime but SA rugby fans carrying on like this ? Surely not ?

W'daddy, warra u onabout ? Go to a niteclub in Joburg or anywhere else in SA & you'll find plenty of South Africans ........ how you can automatically elevate em as being 'rugby fans' is bemusing & amusing .

Actually I can recall the incident which involved some players & some of the club regulars (homeys of Lebanese extraction) ...... em Kiwis should be glad that they got away with a beating only .

 In Carters book he says they were SA "fans " so soccer fans ? Why would soccer fans care ? 

 You've jumped the gun here mate this was back in 2002, in Carter's own words, where there was still contempt held for other races from white people. The bouncers attacked the players because of the Polynesians that were with them.

Sad news to hear

 Well Shezza I would have thought white saffas would at least respect the players as ABs in their jumpers .Not real good rugby people then .

 Well it was the bouncers who began to beat up the the Baby Black players so you don't know if it was because they Baby Blacks won the Junior RWC that year or if it was a racist attack, Carter thinks the latter and he was there so it most likely has nothing to do with losing. Then you have the argument that would the bouncers even know who they were.

 Those bouncers wouldnt be noted for their awesome intellect .Not me though when I moonlighted as one in Sydney never had to belt anyone ,remove them from the premises with minimum fuss without making them want to come back and shoot you .My brother who had his own firm at the time used to just pick troublemakers up and squeeze them till the lights went out .Nice and quiet like .
