Dan Carter@ Toulon for 1.4 Million Pounds per Season

With Carter playing- minus his international commitments they are going to be some team. 

I would love to see Toulon vs some of the Super XV teams. I think they would crush any of the South African teams at the moment- especially with Carter running the backline. 

He is getting 3 times the salary as Habana. Surprised Mccaw is not playing a season or two at Toulon. 

1 Dan Carter, Racing Metro: £1,400,000 ($NZ3.3m) per season

The All Blacks star will become the world's highest-paid player after agreeing to join big-spending Racing Métro following the World Cup.

2 Matt Giteau, Toulon: £900,000 ($NZ2.1m)

Matt Giteau is ranked No 2 after the Wallaby utility back signed a lucrative new contract with French club Toulon this time last year. Toulon had to fight off a big offer from Racing Metro.

3 Leigh Halfpenny, Toulon: £600,000 ($NZ1.4m)

The Welsh star was railroaded out of the World Cup with an injury only a week before the tournament started. But he can console himself via his huge deal, signed at the beginning of last year, with Toulon that saw him become the highest-paid Welsh player of all time.

4 John Afoa, Gloucester: £510,000 ($NZ1.22m)

The former All Black prop is said to be highest paid rugby player in England. Afoa's deal with the Gloucester club is reportedly worth over $NZ1m a season.

5 Sam Burgess, Bath: £500,000 ($NZ1.2m)

The jury might be out on Sam Burgess as a rugby player but it didn't stop English club Bath agreeing to pay the former NRL star £500,000 per season. He is officially England's highest paid player.

6 Johnny Sexton, Racing Metro: £494,000 ($NZ1.18m)

Some reckon the Irish No.10 is as good as Dan Carter. But the All Black has replaced him there and Sexton plans a return to Irish club Leinster after the World Cup where he will be on similar money.

7 Bryan Habana, Toulon: £474,600 ($NZ1.1m)

Universally regarded as the fastest man in rugby, the Springbok winger signed an extended deal with Toulon worth almost £500,000 a year.

 Agree with you about the chicken feed part.   Take for instance AB de Villiers - he makes what Carter makes in a season in 8 weeks playing in the IPL.  For the rest of the year he earns additional millions as well.
It sounds a massive amount paid for rugby players - but is indeed chicken feed if other sporting codes are taken into account. Take for instance Rory McIlroy making Euro 3,66 million and Louis Oosthuizen making Euro 2,56 million this year to date.  
Put things into perspective - does it not?            

 I stand corrected. Pity he is not at Toulon. It could be a pension check for all the best Southern Hemisphere . (sometimes hasbeens)

Unfortunately Toulon has settled for Quade Cooper. Good grief. What a step down from Wilkinson two seasons ago to Cooper!!

  The money that football players earn is generated by sponsorships, media channels and ticket sales. The bulk of the money are from media channels. The reality is that football is more widely viewed and a hell of a lot of money is generated due to viewer numbers. In addition, the games are attended by many more spectators than the dwindling numbers attending SH games. Spectators also attend the games of teh clubs that they support, no matter how low they are on the logs. I live in Reading and Reading FC, who are not even in the Premier League, have been going through a very bad patch and have been loosing game after game for the last few seasons. Still the Madejski stadium (capacity around 25K, IIRC) is packed every weekend when they have a home game. 
Some of the average attendance figures for the current season:Man united - Old Trafford - capacity 75,731 - average attendance - 75,323Arsenal - Emirates - capacity 60,432 - average attendance - 60,021Tottenham Hotspur - White Heart lane - capacity 36,284 - average attendance - 35,711 
One could easily say: "Yeah but those are two big clubs with big stadiums", but look further down the list. 
Bournemouth have the smallest stadium with a capacity of only 11,700 and they are lying at 17/20 on the log. Their average attendance for 2015/16? 11,220 per game.
Chelsea, the reigning champions,  are having a horrible season and are lying down in 15th. Their home field is Stamford Bridge. Capacity is 41,798. Their average attendance is 41,435.
The club with the lowest tendency % is Aston Villa with and attendance of 84.4%. The capacity of Villa Park is 42,788 and their average attendance for 2015/16 is 36,086.
The only other club that has a tendency ratio of less than 90% is Sunderland.
Fourteen of the 20 clubs have above 95% tendency figures for the current season.
Who should get the money that is generated? The players who are presenting the game on the field, or the suits in the glass boxes? 
The fact is that there are those huge amounts in football because of the supporters and viewers. The day that rugby viewers and supporters support their sides in the same way that football supporters do, will be when rugby players will be earning the same  kinds of salaries. Problem is that most rugby supporters are fair weather supporters. That is mostly true in the SH, IMO in any case. In Europe, it is slightly better and the games are attended much better, which is why there is more money involved. The media channels are fiercely competing for a slice of the cake and they are pouring huge amounts into the game. 

Damn Cera, those are some interesting numbers!!! Obviously they get most of their money from Sponsorship, TV rights and advertising etc, but I find those attendance figures staggering! Another interesting point is that the stadiums are full regardless of how the teams are performing. I remember going to watch the Bulls at Loftus in around 2003 or 2004 when they were last on the Super Rugby log in the final game of the season, and I swear there were less than a 1000 people in that stadium! Fickle fans us Saffas!! 

 That is exactly the point that I was trying to make, Blue. Yes, of course they get lots from sponsorships, but those sponsorships are mainly because of match attendance figures in the first place. To give you another example. Arsenal fans are continuously b!tching about high ticket prices, yet they fill that stadium for each game at the Emirates. I think the price of an average ticket at the Emirates, nowadays, is around £50 (R1000), if not more, and they have 19 home Premier league games in a season. That is around £57M in gate fees per season from the Premier League alone. That does not include any other games, i.e. Capitol One, FA Cup, etc. 
I once watched a game, at the Emirates, between Arsenal and Newcastle in the season that Newcastle was relegated to the Championship (2nd tier) and were, at the time already in the bottom three. There was no way that they were going to beat Arsenal in that game. That game was in front of a full capacity Emirates crowd. The point is that it doesn't matter who are playing and how strong the home team is, the crowds go out and support their teams.

 In addition to the above..... When the Golden Lions' partnership with Emirates Air Lines was made public, I said that they should look after that and if the can keep on building,it could become a massive partnership. Emirates' partnership with Arsenal also started fairly off small and they have recently renewed their ties for the umpteenth time  until well after 2020, IIRC. They have poured millions and millions of £s into that club.

idk much about cricket, but my buddys at work are made about cricket the way NZers are about rugby and often tell me the ins and outs about cricket which is more interesting than actually watching cricket.

anyway, something didnt sound right about what u said about what ab devilliers gets paid in a season of IPL.

i looked it up and ab de villiers signed up for 1.03 million australian dollars which equates to roughly 1.5million NZ dollars.

that would make abs pay 8 week pay packet less than half what carters going to make in a season.
not peanuts, but not jaw dropping either like when i first read ur comment, lolz,

could u have mistaken the 1.4 million pound for 1.5 million dollars maybe???

and if were going to talk ab were going to talk about richest paid athletes, im pretty sure both packman and mayweather would knock everyone out.

cant remember packmans pay deal, but mayweather got something like 300 million for his fight, not bad for 36 minutes worth of work, lolz,
