I am not particularly worried about the defense of De Allende.   In his last two games he made 10 tackles missing 2 - which represents a 16,6% missed tackle ratio - entirely acceptable for an inside center.
He missed more tackles against the Chiefs - but those were in cases where he tried to cover for tackles missed by De Jongh, Leyds and Kolbe.  
I would not say defense is a particular problem in his case and would like to see him in as backline with a better flyhalf and outside center.
What was clear yesterday was that it took more than one player to tackle De Allende in every case where he carried the ball.  The same cannot be said of any of the other 12's in SA.        

I have been calling for Delande to be the Bok number 12 since last year. He was allmost as good last year for the Stormers as he is this year. 
Meyer messed up by getting Delande to play outside centre.
The Stormers actually made the right choice of playing Delande at inside center with Jean at outside centre to organise the defense.
If Devilliers plays matches and in good form, this is the most logical option for the Wordlcup, otherwise it is playing Serftonein on attack at outside centre, and defending from inside centre.

I would like to make some comments on your backline players you mentioned:-
Scrummies
I seriously distrust the form of the Japanese Club players returning to play rugby in SA.  In 2013 Du Preez played in a few games in the CR and his form was spotty.  He came from the bench in the runaway victory game against the Pumas - was good in the game against the Aussies and a week later below par against the AB's.   The same happened in 2014 when Du Preez did play for the Springboks - good one game and sub-par a week later.   Please note that in Japan the Clubs only play matches every fortnight - so I have serious reservations about the actual match-fitness of the Japanese Club players to play week after week on test level.
The above apparent lack of match fitness also leads to injuries taking players out of  games  for long periods and Du Preez is no exception to that situation.
Pienaar also suffered from injuries last year and Ulster was poor in the European Cup this year.  I saw very little of him on TV this  year and what I saw was anything but impressive.
I am afraid both scrummies you mentioned have serious performance problems - so there must be a question mark about them.  Both are on the old side for high performing players and for them to get fit and remain fit requires especially high training programmes and even then their pace are not brought back to the required standards.
Centers
I am afraid it would be better to forget about Fransie.  He was not up to standard in 2012 after his return from France and ever since then has been constantly way below par in Super 15.   In 2013 and 2014 he was grossly over-weight but after his return from Japan - he seems to be in a reasonable physical form.   However, his performances thus far this year was a disaster and with a 5 week ban he will have very little game time this year to see whether there is in fact a reasonable performance level to be expected from a Springbok center.   He himself apparently thinks his Springbok career is over and I think most people would agree with that.
Insofar as Jean de Villiers is concerned there is as yet no indication that he would play rugby again.  Even if he does return the question is how with minimal matches he could participate in would it be possible for him to regain match fitness.   Be it as it may - 2014 was a poor performance year for Jean, he was way below the standard he set in 2013.   Age-wise he is getting on and it would be a miracle if he regains even part of his rather average 2014 form.
I think the matches JP Pietersen played at 13 since 2012 has proven conclusively that he is not an outside center.   The problem with him is he is a wing - but his pace has deteriorated badly in Japan, but in the games he played thus far this year for the Sharks at 13 he was a passenger making very little contribution at 13.   I do not think he is a center - and am afraid we will have to look elsewhere to fill the number 13 position.  I think that both Serfontein and Kriel has the inside track iro 13.
Wings  
Meyer has a phobia about small backline players and I think Kolbe has no chance to feature in the Springboks backline.   In any event - as the NZ commentators said yesterday - he is all heart - but he is not physically up to it.   
The problem is that all the potential wings  have problems - mostly on defense, but Pietersen h as a pace problem as well.   Looking at the top wings for instance from NZ none has pace as an advantage - they are rather slow, but very strong ball carriers.   So Pietersen may yet be the player to partner Habana on the wing.              

Step is not fast enough to play 13. Hell he was gassed by Owen Farrell at Twickenham. Week after week this guy does nothing, week after week he remains the first choice centre. Time to wake up, he was a great junior player but he is a nothing at senior level.

The only mistake useless Meyer made was discarding de Allende after 2 tests.
He should be playing Serfontein at 12 with de Allende at 13 it's that simple.

 De Allende is the form 12 and has been making steady progress year on year.
Serfontein is playing off hype from the JWC back in 2013 and are to prone to bash the ball up and never looks for the space or to create play around him.
Jesse kriel at the back looks amazing. Need a few more seasons, but is he a 13 or 15?
I would say that the 12 shirt is De Allende and time to move on from De Villiers. 
Keep burger fit and give him the bok captaincy with Vermeulen as his deputy. 

 Burger is too much of a hot head for captain. Up till now Vermeulen did well as captain and would be my bok captain at this stage.
