wee matfiled isa great con artists for sure and maybe has the brain to make acoach. However do we really need the show pony? Ex Supersport

He hasn’t signed anything yet but the Western Province management staff have already been told that Eddie Jones will be coaching Super Rugby next year so it looks like the big talking point in Cape rugby at the moment can be considered a done deal.

It is understood the appointment of the former Brumbies, Reds and Wallabies coach (plus of course a clutch of other teams such as Saracens) and current coach of the Japan national team will be announced within a few weeks. If there isn't a late glitch and for some reason pen is not put to paper, thus will end a search for Stormers director of rugby Gert Smal that included approaches or a feeling out process to several overseas coaches.

Former Crusaders and Wallabies coach Robbie Deans was one of those sounded out about his availability early in the year, and a serious approach was made to former Sharks coach John Plumtree, who is now assistant coach at the Hurricanes. It is understood from sources close to him that Plumtree gave what was considered a very attractive offer serious consideration but eventually turned it down on the basis that he didn’t want to uproot his family again.

Durban based John Mitchell, the Lions’ Currie Cup winning coach of 2011 and a former All Black mentor, was targeted before Plumtree was, but turned it down on the basis that he wanted a four year contract rather than two and was uncomfortable with Smal’s insistence that he’d have to work with the same support staff that served under Allister Coetzee.

Mitchell could still be involved as subsequent to him turning the Stormers down he was asked if he’d be prepared to work as a spot coach. That is the term given in Japan to coaches who serve as consultants and are called in every now and then to address specific areas of play but are not with the team constantly.

Mitchell would probably still be available for such a role if Jones is coach - in his autobiography he didn't make any secret of his admiration for the man he pitted himself against at the 2003 World Cup - and the prospect of Jones perhaps consulting occasionally with Mitchell on strategy would be a mouth-watering one for Cape rugby fans wishing to see their team improve the attacking game they have struggled with over the past few seasons.

However the more pressing need, once Jones’ appointment is confirmed, will be the appointment of a fulltime forwards coach to replace Matt Proudfoot, who has followed Coetzee overseas. And that is where it becomes interesting, for the man that Jones is said to be determined to recruit is current Springbok stand-in captain Victor Matfield.

The veteran is currently focussed on the World Cup and has been linked to a possible playing career swansong with English club Bath, something denied by the club itself. Matfield has served as an assistant at the Bulls for a few seasons and was until a short while ago considered to be in the running to succeed Frans Ludeke as head coach of the Bulls.

Getting Matfield to leave Pretoria for the Cape might sound like a tough ask and thinking of Matfield linked to the Stormers and not the Bulls is a bit like imagining Portuguese chicken marinated in ice-cream rather than peri-peri.

However, such a move might be good for Matfield in furthering his rugby experience and developing his coaching ability – there is still no clarity about who will be head coach at the Bulls – and it could also be good for South African rugby if you consider that three of the four Bok locks of the future should be on the Stormers books next year.

The two No 5s, Pieter-Steph du Toit, who is Matfield’s heir apparent in that position in the Bok team, and Ruan Botha could certainly learn something from Matfield’s astuteness as a lineout technician and strategist.

It might all sound like pie in the sky for now, but Matfield is said to be the man Jones would want to be his forwards assistant.

Robbie Fleck grew a lot as a coach during the last Super Rugby season and is currently picking up experience as a head coach with the WP under-21 team, and there is a lot of merit in allowing him to grow under Jones by continuing in his role as backs coach, while current WP Currie Cup coach John Dobson should also be accommodated in the newlook Stormers management team for 2016.

Please look at what Denny write about the issue.  He wrote inter alia that it is a done deal and that Jones will be introduced as the head coach next week.  He also quoted a newspaper report - a later one than the Supersport one.
Mozart went bananas again - but I tried to rectify the issue.
About Matfield - he is at present contracted as the attacking coach of the Bulls and was a disaster as such.   From a previous media report the Bulls seems to be hoping that Matfield takes up a foreign club contract - allowing them to release him from the coaching contract with the Bulls.  They are apparently keen to do so - since he has lost the respect of the younger Bulls players.  It is one of the factors that is complicating the search of the Bulls for a new Director of Rugby after the departure of Ludeke.

I merely referred to what was in the media when the possibility of Matfield signing a contract with a NH Club was mentioned.  The story about Matfield's coaching role at the Bulls and the desire to relieve him from the coaching contract with the Bulls was clearly mentioned.  mention was also made of the problems he had with younger Bulls players.
There was a thread on the issue and you can quote the thread in full if you like to.
No hate campaign - merely  repeat of what was stated clearly before in the media.  If there was a smear campaign please assign responsibility to the media for publishing the story - not to me.
I would tell you something though - Matfield was a great lock in his prime.  If there is anybody belittling him it is Matfield himself.  Coming back and playing mediocre rugby is a sure way of doing it to himself.

You are the one that constantly quote past postings - if you want to find it you could.  The Thread dealt with the possible non-retirement of Matfield by joining a Foreign Club and the implication of such a move iro his contract as attack coach of the Bulls.
You are a specialist in finding previous postings - if you really want to you will find this one as well.  But you won't because that allows  allows you to keep spouting poison on this site.

 Poison Ivy aka Ceradunce
You often enough raked up my posts to try and discredit me.  "Ou Tokkie when I am required to substantiate what I have said, I do so."   The first sentence clearly indicate that your stance now is a bloody lie.  Have you taken lessons from Dr Goebbels in lying?
You remain BS in my book - Happy Idiots Day to you.

But you won't because you know about the thread and what was in the newspaper report quoted  in that case.
Both of you are ceradunce are lying cowards and you use this issue as if you have gained anything.  If you really find proof that I am lying about the thread - then find out you miserable twit.

You do not have any proof of this:
"About Matfield - he is at present contracted as the attacking coach of the Bulls and was a disaster as such.   From a previous media report the Bulls seems to be hoping that Matfield takes up a foreign club contract - allowing them to release him from the coaching contract with the Bulls.  They are apparently keen to do so - since he has lost the respect of the younger Bulls players.  It is one of the factors that is complicating the search of the Bulls for a new Director of Rugby after the departure of Ludeke."
If you had, you would  not have been so scared to provide it.

The problem with Ceradunce and Dr Goebbels is that they know exactly what was in the article and in the subsequent discussion and that they ignored the issue raised repeatedly in the media - namely that the Bulls cannot find a replacement for Ludeke because of the insistence of the Bulls that the support staff contracts must be retained.   Coaches want a say in selection of their support staff - which in the case of the Bulls did not happen and they are still without a Director of Rugby.
One of the support staff they objected to is Matfield as attack coach.   Rossouw resigned because of the constant undermining of his position as backline coach by Matfield running to Ludeke so as to get his way.   The resultant rubbish tore the team apart and cause the dislike of Matfield by the younger players.  Lets put it bluntly - Matfield is known to undermine his superiors in teams.   He undermined John Smit and caused so much trouble in the team that he was at one stage sent back from New Zealand because of his shenanigans in the relevant regard. If Jones pick him in any capacity he must realize that Matfield will undermine him as well.
Matfield is a danger in any team from that perspective and as he is also not a good enough player anymore his presence in the team is the cancer that will sink our WC endeavours.

No, you stupid plank. I do not remember what was in the article that you are referring to. This is where I suspect that you are off the rails because you are twisting the facts again:
".....namely that the Bulls cannot find a replacement for Ludeke because of the insistence of the Bulls that the support staff contracts must be retained......"

The article that I saw made no mention of that. It did mention, though, that the fact that the current Bulls' supporting staff are still contracted to the Bulls. That is exactly the same scenario at the Stormers. The only difference between the Bulls and the Stormers is that it is the Stormers' forwards assistant coach, Matthew Proudfoot, whose contract has also run out and who has left, while the Bulls' backline coach, Pieter Rossouw, has left because his contract has run out. That is why Plumtree, among other, have turned down the offer from the Stormers.
Neither the Stormers nor the Bulls are insisting on retaining their support staff. They are contractually bound to retain them. Those are the facts, as far as I know but trust your sick fermented brain to twist the facts around to suit your slimy agenda again. And then, of course, you found some crap written by some journo who has his own version of unsubstantiated BS, which you obviously caught on to. So, if you are not the coward that I suspect you are, go find us a link to the article and then we can debate the contents of the article. Knowing you, I would  not be surprised if this is exactly the point where you choose to back out of this argument.

The article certainly appeared to have inside info and wee amtfiled was causing problems. Anyhow he is a bulle. He tried his hand as attack coach and flopped.
Wonder if Dr Venter could come into the picture lets try and get in some brains as there has been a drought ever since the celebrated cerebral Rassie Erasmus left.

Then we get to matfileds part in Mvovo's try. Wee matfiled in his usual postion at center catches the ball (One positive thing I can say about wee matfiled is he can catcha ball!). He then finds he has space and runs the ball up a stride or two - no more than that. Finding that somebody is coming up to tackle him he takes evasive action and manages to sucessfully to pass to the mighty Burger who demonstates what fast hands are all about.
The groupies of course spent hours marvelling at wee matfileds immense contribution to the try - Movov and burger are not mentioned. matfiled straigthened the line. Wasnt victors pass sublime - Burger after all was able to catch it. Etc etc etc. Bwahahahahahhahahahaha
Man when you are a hardened matfiled groupy you would give matfiled a 10 even when he is not playing.
Then we had the calmness matfiled brought to the second Argies test. Yes I kid you not ou matfile somehow gets the credit. Great pity of course matfled couldnt do this for the bulle weekend after weekend!
Matfiled groupeis are under a spell. its great seeing guys like Mike and Saffex and others awakening from the spell and seeing how pathetic he is as a "lock".
We wish Dr Mozzzz a recovery - we know it wont b e speedy! Hahahahahahahahaha
