I've slowly started running through the game. Not sure if I will do player ratings again, rather highlight some key moments/plays as I pick them up and maybe in depth on a few key players.

Within the first 26 seconds - Reinach gathers the loose kick off tap, next phase Willemse attempts to feed Hooker on the touchline but can't quite clear the defender's hands, ball goes backward off ABs and Hooker gathers it. In the chaos the NZ defense is hopelessly overstacked on the left. We run with a pod and a cluster of 4 each in the midfield to keep them honest and pull in the few they do have wide. Wiese feeds Sacha, Thomas runs a decoy line onto Proctor as Sacha's pass finds Fassi who draws in Carter. There is now a lethal 4 on 1 (Willemse/Moodie/Kolisi/Kolbe) outside Fassi, but he chooses the inside break. Beats his man, but by the time the next phase begins the NZ defense has evened the odds, Carter makes a fine tackle on Moodie, from the breakdown Sacha kicks across for Hooker who secures in the air attended to by Jordan, he offloads to Fassi, remains in support but Fassi's offload misses Hooker, ball in touch. And so ends a golden chance for the Boks to have a try on the board in about 30 seconds.

I can see why Fassi cut in as a NZ defender was coming at speed closing him off

He might have got a quick pass away but that defender definitely influenced his decision to cut in

Why the fuck are you all finding clips of things we did wrong?

come on man. If we knitpick every game since day dot, we’ll find stuff in each game.

I can agree with that Dave, but quick hands could have gotten it away. There was a huge chunk of space in front of him so I can see why he was tempted, but Carter just got a tap on him (so I correct myself where I said he beat his man up there, he actually was brought down by Carter, camera angles changed just as it happened so I missed it, thought initially it was Proctor who ankle tapped him) which broke his momentum and that gave NZ a chance to reset. Even just a semi-good bobbling floater of a pass outside is try time if no one stuffs up.

Chippers, as I said on another thread, we've had the poorest conversion ratio of turning entries into the 22 into points despite entering more than any other side in the competition. It's worth looking at what is happening when we get there, because we are getting there a lot. Like we saw in the first Australia test, we kept making it into their 22 fairly effortlessly throughout the game, so it's not like what we were doing wasn't working, but we couldn't turn those entries into points. Result - a big loss.

Yeah Pakie quick hands could have seen him get rid of it but that outside defender did enough to offset him executing the quick pass

It’s one for the training field - drilling players in those scenarios to take the right option. Is it an element of self glory in that split second or is it just instinct given the circumstances?

Whenever you are playing there is an element of wanting to impresss as an individual and doing what’s good for the team
