Fiji have beaten the All Blacks Sevens 24-17 in the final of the Glasgow Sevens after the Kiwis were denied two tries by the referee.

Sam Vaka had two potential tries chalked off, one for a double movement and the second after he was taken high close to the try line.

Instead of blowing for a penalty try, the ref only awarded a penalty.

Fiji opened the scoring through Savenaca Rawaca, but New Zealand turned the tide, going close through Vaka's two attempts.

Sherwin Stowers and Sam Dickson then crossed the line to give the men in black a 12-5 halftime advantage.

Fiji then struck back with two quick tries of their own to Osea Kolinisau and Apisai Domolailai, before replacement Apisai Domolailai added another.

Scott Curry pulled one try back, but New Zealand were unable to narrow the gap further.

"No excuses whatsoever, we produced a performance to win it and the Fijian flair shone through in the end," coach Sir Gordon Tietjens said.

"We were down to nine in the end with injuries but there are no excuses. We're still in with a chance to win the Series. Anything can happen. It's going to be tough but London will be exciting."

New Zealand were missing Tim Mikkelson, Joe Webber and Ambrose Curtis in the final due to injury.

They sit third overall on the ladder. behind Fiji and South Africa.

Those three have also confirmed their place at the Rio Olympic Games.
