Flops of the week

 Mozart's flops obviously include the players that is always on his hate list with a few added - spo his list is about as worthless as his opinions on player performances normally is.
Lets just put his flops into perspective:-
Boshoff was not as atrocious as Odwa Ndungane was at full back.   Always out of position and really useless.
JP Pietersen was anytime as useless as Juan de Jongh was while the latter was on the field of play.   Their defense was a joke in bad taste - Pietersen had a missed tackle ratio of 40% - De Jongh of 66,6%.   Pietersen never was a center - De Jongh is supposed to be one.
Reinach was one of the better Sharks players - there were preciously few of them.  Hi9s stats showed that and his inclusion is purely based on Mozart's relentless hate campaign against the player.  The flop was Hoffman who played half of the game for the Sharks and was shockingly poor in that half.   But then Mozart did not notice the replacement - so what can one expect from him.
Mozart mixed up Mbonambi and Ntubeni  -  Mbonambi was by some distance worse than Ntubeni.  Suppose he has never heard of Mbonambi and does not know the difference between the two players.
Admittedly Kleyn was poor - but he had serious competition from Flip van der Merwe.   The line out throw-ins of the Stormers was so poor - Klein got nothing to catch.   However, his defense statistically was much better than the defense of Flippie.  Poor Mozart does not even know how to spell Kleyn's surname correctly - so what can one expect from him.
One thing is clear - Mozart is unable to make any objective comments on player performances since he does not know what is expected from players in various positions and his comments are grossly prejudiced by his likes and dislikes.     
    In any event his comments are virtually always entirely based on one incident in games - not on performance over a number of games or even in respect of the game he comments on as a whole.  

I don't know what you're talknig about, Kolisi had one of his better games, all the rest I'll agree with.

Kolisi was worth 14 points to the opposition.....being stripped when he was over the line and trying to run with the ball before  securing it near his own line.

 Kolisi was poor - that I grant you.

 He made some valuable meters and was harder to bring down than Vermeulen and Burger, he wreaked havoc on the Cheetahs defence. I'll accept that he had the ball ripped out of his hands, but you can't blame him for trying to running it out his 22 when he' s passed the ball.

The problem with the Stormers loosies - other than Vermeulen - is that they are clueless about ball recovery at breakdown situations.   Burger gets penalized fairly frequently when he tried it - Kolisi never makes any contribution in that regard.
Kolisi is at best a middle of the range loosie - there are lots of others better than him as all-round loosies.   Maybe I was too harsh about him costing the Stormers a try as a result of poor ball handling - but that is a fact of life that cannot be argued away.   However, on the other hand a player should not be judged based on one incident during a match - I leave that type of thing to the clueless Mozart - but on all-round performances.   Maybe the one incident clouded my judgement in this case.

Oh what utter rubbish. Esterhuizen did not flop at all, neither did Kleyn, Ruan Botha or Reinach.
Kolisi had an outstanding game geez get your eyes tested.
Worst player of the weekend was useless Zielinga and you failed to have him in your team of flops shows the worth of your ignorant views. He was closely followed by useless Matfield.

A number of players should not be on the Mozart list as pointed out previously.  However, I differ from you on Esterhuizen - he had a shocker as is evident from the following stats:-
Esterhuizen0/001/4/5500012/80/000/0 Making only two tackles and missing 8 represents an extremely serious problem in performance and he also knocked on a sitter passed to him.  Not an acceptable situation at all.
I agree with you about the other players listed by Mozart.  Anybody posing even a remote challenge to Matfield or any player threatening one of his favourites  is constantly criticized by Mozart - mostly on dubious grounds.

That's cool Vlag. They weren't giving away a lot of their secrets, but one got an impression of the seriousness of the effort. What I find so impressive is the speed with which the data is  made available. And I have confidence in the numbers. It's a great resource.

 They have a channel on YouTube, Moz where they give some insight in what they do. interesting is that there are many of the big sports franchises who are there clients. Some of them are:
Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, the Blues, Crusaders, Chiefs, Barcelona FC, Highlanders, Hurricanes, the All Blacks, RFU, etc.
Many of the big betting companies use their data as well as a lot of sports media companies. BBC, BT Sports, Canal+, Sky, ESPN, Fox Sports, ITV Sports, etc.

"Instead of gut feelings you have raw data" ....couldn't have put it better.....this stuff is an aid to judgement. The techniques are incredibly tedious.....logging each pass origin and destination....but the data is magic.

So use it in all cases and not just cases where it could  discredit  players you do not like and not others.   Use it to determine trends in players - not just in one game.  Use it scientifically and not based on rubbish prejudice.  Good advice to one of the main duds on this site.
