Look Frans was acceptable in the game against the Cheetahs. In the next game against the Cheetahs he did nothing of note. Against the low ranking Kings he was poor - so much so that even though he was a captain - he was replaced early in the second half.
The game he was worse in was against the Brumbies. The Sharks was losing badly and the Sharks managed to mount an attack into the Brumbies 22. The attack is on - but what did Fransie do - - he made a little kick straight at the full back who caught a mark and the attack went out of the window. Those three missed tackles all three resulted in attacks continuing ending up in tries being scored.
In the Rebels game he came on fairly late in the game at full back and carried the balls for about 20 meters each and in the one case he got tackled and lost ball possession in the process in the other one he made an inaccurate pass going over the sideline. Bad news that game.
The games against the Chiefs and the Highlanders he played at 13 - because just before the games Jordaan got injured and had to return to SA. Nothing much to write home about - but Fransie did score a try after a clean break by Bosman, the latter passed the ball to Fransie 5 meters out without any defenders in front of him.
All the junk about Bosman is meaningless. Most centers in SA have been better than Bosman - so what does it mean in the evaluation of Steyn. The assumption on your part appears to be that Fransie would have been better - but bearing in mind Fransie's poor performances earlier there can be no real basis for that assumption being made.
There can be no real justification for Fransie in that case - he was average in the first game and piss-poor in the rest. End of story.

Frans had lots of issues in 2013. He was alot better last year and even more so this year. Forget about 2013, it's irrelevant.

The point being Michael was, yet again, wrong. The entire Shark's team was better last year, even Lambie was functional until the big games turned up. T he rot was Plumtree.

Letsal does not realize that Plumtree has shown at Ireland and now at the Hurricanes that he actually is a top coach and was such all the time. The coaches who followed him were the reason for the present rot at the Sharks.
The reason for this hate-campaign against Plumtree is simple - Plumtree dropped Steyn from the side in 2013 because he was piss-poor.
The egocentric individual who knows nothing about rugby pretends that he knows more about rugby than a respected career coach does - what a farce.

Mozart
Plumtree was assistant coach of Ireland on international level and Ireland won the 6Nations remember. He was then recruited by the Hurricanes, who for the first time the past decade is on Top of the Super 15 log by some distance.
Plumtree did not screw up the whole Fransie thing. Fransie showed serious physical and performance deficiencies in 2013 - so how the hell did Plumtree screwed it up. The word "screwed" is appropriate in that case, Fransie was screwing the Sharks team by being abysmal in performance so what did you expect from Pluntree - to stand by and let a player like Steyn further undermine at team with up to 19 of his 36 man squad out with injuries.
After the Sharks was in the final in Super 15 in 2012 - Plumtree had to struggle because of an unbelievable injury list in 2013 - a fact you ignore and suddenly turned into one issue - namely the fact that he took action against a piss-poor player who were undermining the Sharks team performance further.
This really is unbelievable tripe.

You gave a string of stats above without any evaluation of the stats at all and then went on a wild goose chase about Bosman. It is a joke indeed - but what amused me was that Bosman's mother who was the agent through which I bought the house in Riversdale where I will be moving to early in June. Bosman is normally the starting center for Stade Francais - while Morne is the perennial bench flyhalf.
However - do you know what the evaluation of stats entail? I think not so I will give you a few tips:-
Ballhandling
What percentage of the balls a player over a season like you quoted handled, what percentage was kicked, what percentage passed and what percentage carried.
This indicated in a center whether he is an effective ball passer or whether he hands on to balls excessively or kicks away too high a percentage of the ball.
Attacking Play
Here one has to look at -
* the total number of ball carries, couple to the total gain in territory and the average gain in meters per carry;
* how many line breaks a player made and how many defenders he beats in ball carries;
* How many balls he off-loaded effectively (positive) and how many ball losses he incurred (negative)
Tackling stats
The important issue here is how many tackles a player makes comparative to how many attempted tackles a player missed over a series. By doing that a missed tackle ratio can be calculated. A ratio above 15% is totally unacceptable in a backline player.
Care must be taken that apples are compared with apples. In this case Francois Steyn came from the bench to play at full back in the Rebels Game and his stats would not help in assessing his performance as a center. This is important since once a proper evaluation has been done, it can be used to compare performances between the player concerned and other competing players in the same position.
CONCLUSION
To help you out I would evaluate the stats quoted by you and make a real assessment of the trends shown by Steyn in this case:-
Ballhandling
Steyn handled the ball in all the matches (bar the game against the Rebels - where he came from the bench as a Full Back) 98 TIMES
What did he do with the 98 balls he handled:-
* He kicked the ball 12 times
* He passed the ball 38 times* He carried the ball 48 times
The percentage of passing of the ball at circa 40% is comparatively low and for a center should be in the vicinity of at least 50 - 55% - otherwise predictability becomes a drawback. Predictability - NEGATIVE
Attacking play
Lets look at this aspect objectively:-
* the 48 times Steyn carried the ball resulted in a total territory gain of 169 meters;
* the average meter gain was 3,52;
* in the 7 games played, Steyn made 1 line break
* While carrying the ball 48 times he beat 13 tackles
* Steyn made 14 off-loads
So what does the above tells us? In a thread on Serfontein in the tests against Wales last year Mozart was most scathing when the average gain by Serfontein was 3,3 meters and the 3,52 meter gain is regarded as ineffective. NEGATIVE
Steyn made 1 line break beating 13 defenders in 7 matches. Compare this with the figures of Vorster - a rookie - in his 7 matches at 12 for the Lions this year and the comparable figures are 4 line breaks beating 18 defenders. Another way of looking at the comparative figures are to compare the fact that Steyn played in 2 matches at 13 where he made no line breaks and beat 3 defenders. In 3 games at 13 Vorster made 6 line breaks beating 10 defenders. NEGATIVE
Without looking at the quality of the 14 off-loads made by Steyn one has to adjudicate that as a POSITIVE.
Tackling stats
In the seven games being adjudicated Steyn -
* made 40 tackles; and * missed 8 tackles
for a missed tackle ratio of 16,6%. This is on the high side for a center. Unfortunately the figures are slightly distorted because in a game against the Kings Steyn made 11 tackles and missed none. In the other 6 games the ratio was 27,5% - which is more in line with the normal missed tackle ratio of Steyn in games in 2014 and 2015. UNACCEPTABLE
SUMMARY
When evaluated - the stats so generously provided by you proved to be reflecting a player whose PERFORMANCES WERE BELOW PAR AND IS A CLEAR INDICATION WHY PLUMTREE HAD REASON TO DROP HIM FROM THE TEAM.

I don't care what you think he has done since the Sharks. The fact of the matter is he had a Springbok laden team and continually underachieved for six years.
To call me egotistical is quite funny considering you regarded Meyer and Ludeke as "worst ever coaches" inspite of them achieving far more at any point in their senior career than Pumtree ever will! I criticize him for dropping Frans because he was emphatically their best performing 12. Even a linear view of the stats reveal this to be true, game footage only adds to the finality of that conclusion.
Just as in 2012, when you lied repeatedly about Frans' time with Racing Metro. You didn't think anyone here had access to those games. Too bad for you I was here. An act you have repeated many times since.
You've got nothing to support your claims, just a series of numbers in Kamp Mikeschwitz where they are tortured day and night until they confess the "truth".

What a load of crap is this? It is just a string of lies and half-truths that really is unbelievable. Lets evaluate the above objectively:-
1. " Michael you are a joke! I don't care what you think he has done since the Sharks. The fact of the matter is he had a Springbok laden team and continually underachieved for six years. Reaching the final of Super 15 in 2012 was nothing - under-achievement?
2. "I criticize him for dropping Frans because he was their best performing 12 by a long way." Can you understand plain English - Steyn was a serious flop in 2013 as confirmed by the stats you provided. You went bananas trying to prove that Steyn was better than Bosman in games Steyn enver played in. That is utter BS and totally devoid of any reasonable thinking.
3. "Just as with 2012 and his stint with Racing Metro ~ You lied through your teeth in 2012 about his performances there assuming I nobody saw those games. But I downloaded all but 2 and had the stats to boot. You lie endlessly and create all kinds of wild allegations against people." Look you must be bloody crazy - I never wrote anything about Steyn''s performances in games played for Racing Metro ever. What I said is if he was star quality they would fight like anything to renew his contract - which they did not do. FACT. I also said that it appears as if the French clubs are not hunting for his services - which they probably would have done if he really according to them a quality player. That is not remotely discussing his actual performances in the games he played in fir Racing Metro - it was just general remarks about the lack of interest French Clubs showed in him after his stint with Racing Metro. I suppose this statement will go over your head and another burst of childishness will flow like Sh!t from your mouth.
4. "I even recall your posts about him being the central antagonist in squad disharmony which was utter nonsense." When I raised this issue I based it on what I head from friends of players about what was going on inside the team. It was also confirmed by the fact that a number of players refused to renew their contracts unless White departs. The reason centered about favouritism showed by White towards Steyn and his constant denigrating of some players, blaming them for mistakes - while Steyn always got off scot-free even when he made wort mistakes than they did. Although proof of what I wrote could be regarded as flimsy and absed on hearsay - your statement is not even based on anything at all.
WHY DID YOU TOTALLY IGNORE THE STATS EVALUATION INDICATING HOW POOR STEYN IN FACT WAS IN 2013 OR TRIED TO COUNTER WHAT WAS THE RESULT OF THE EVALUATION? That would have been a basis for discussion - generalizations and tripe does not remove anything from the fact that Steyn was poor in 2013.

The Sharks scraped through to reach the playoffs that year and were fortunate enough to play their playoff game in SA sgainst a misfiring Stormers side, but blown away thereafter.
An anomally in the six years of Plumtree that still doesn't compare to the season Jake had with the Sharks.
On the contrary Michael, Frans was the best performing 12. Comparing the players at 12 is very logical. What is certain though is that none of the centres or half backs truly thrived under Plumtree.
Yes you did criticize Frans' performances in France, spitting all kinds of vitriol my way for saying he was playing well. I even posted a video, b ut there is no getting through to you. You are too far gone in the murky world of your own dishonesty.

I will be blunt and brutal. The Sharks scraped through the play-offs is actual the grossest BS ever spouted on this site. The Sharks had to travel to Brisbane to play the reds in the play-offs and beat them easily. The next week they played the Stormers in Cape Town and beat them easily as well. They then had to travel to New Zealand to play in the final. Any amount of travelling would be a killer - yet that is forgotten by you and your reasoning is piss-poor.
On what do you base your argument on Frans if the stats provided by you and his actual performances in 2013 was indicative of a failed player at center. Is your statement based on facts or a fairy tale spun by you?
"... you did criticize Frans' performances in France, slinging all kinds of mud my way for saying he was playing well. I even posted a video." You must be smoking dope or you are a bad liar to come up with that BS. Ask your friend and fellow idiot to find where I actually wrote a thread criticizing Steyn for performances in Racing Metro games.

The stats without the evaluation done by me showed nothing - zero - zilch. A string of figures that without proper evaluation cannot be used for any purpose whatsoever and any assumption that they indicate that "Frans played well enough" is idiotic and useless. When comparing the properly evaluated figures with other player performances - it clearly indicates that he was useless and a negative for the team.
There never ever was a discussion on Frans while he played for Racing Metro. Long after he left Racing and after he kept on fouling up for the Springboks and the Sharks (I think in 2013) - I mentioned that one has to wonder why if Steyn was good did Racing Metro not fight to retain his services. Logical statement under the circumstances. Fact is his contract period was up and there was no suggestions or even rumours about potential renewal or otherwise.
If Fransie was in high demand by French Clubs would he have gone to Japan. White is raiding SA players left right and center and if he could convince his club management - Fransie would have been one of his first choices to be raided. But he was not and the question is - why not? Maybe the answer is that Fransie already had a contract in Japan - but having played in France, he surely would have gone there and not gone to Japan if there was anything available for him in France.
My suspicion is that he is not regarded as a good proposition by any of the French clubs - logical assumption under the circumstances.
