Gerrard departs a hero

 I found it so fitting that his fellow players ensured that his last memory as a player typified what Liverpool has accomplished since he made his debut.

I was never a Gerrard fan, and thought he wasn't all that great for England, but he is as you say the heart and soul of the Liverpool side of his era. Will be a big void left behind they will no doubt feel for many years to come.

Chippo, they won the Champions League in 2005, made the final again later. Won a triple in 2001. I wouldn't say they achieved nothing.

Chippo, he's won the FA Cup x2, League Cup x3, Champions League, UEFA Cup, Super Cup x2. 
As well as being the only player to score in the final of a FA Cup, League Cup, UEFA cup and Champions League. It's very unfair to say he's won very little, he may not have won the League but he's done very well for himself.
If he left maybe he would have won more, but the guy is loved by every single Liverpool fan, he's the heart and soul of the city. I think he'd take that over a couple of league titles.

 Scholes and Lampard were better.

Lampard? LOL! Scholes was very good, but Roy Keane was far, far better than him. Gerrard was however the heart and soul of Liverpool, in much the same way Del Piero was everything Juve, or Maldini AC, or Maradona Napoli etc.

Roy Keane was a completely different player to the three mentioned and no, he was nowhere near as good as Scholes. 
Scholes was Man United through and through so he's cut from the same cloth as Gerrard regarding loyalty to their clubs. Lampard carried Chelsea before the Abramovich era and will regarded as much a legend by Chelsea supporters as Gerrard to Liverpool supporters. 

Shezza, Lampard had two years at Chelsea before Abramovich turned up, I don't think him carring Chelsea in that period is comparable to Gerrard carrying Liverpool for best part of his 17 year career.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a massive fan of Lampard, he's absolute quality and a complete gentleman of the game. He's one of the most intelligent players in the game, whether you think he's better then Gerrard or not is your opinion, you could make arguments either way.

What it shouldn't do though is take anything away from Gerrard, the guy was a one man army at times for Liverpool. 

If the English players are good-why is their national team so poor. 
They are very disrespectful as well talking down other nations football teams.  
They are also disrespectful of previous English teams- calling themselves the Golden Generation of English football before their matches in tournaments.
I used to support the England football team before living in the UK.  Listening to them in the media, they are arrogant overpaid yobs. 
The worst is Ferdinand and his half brother the 2 village idiots.

England over the past 20/25 years have had excellent players - players like Gascoine, Shearer, Fowler, Rooney, Adams, Scholes, Lampard, Gerrard, McManaman, Terry, Cole, Becks etc

Unfortunately I don't believe they've had a manager who's been tactically adept enough to get the most out of these players. 

I know first hand about the stater of the media over here, since living here since I was very little, they're a joke. Always have been, always will be. They build they're national teams up to a point invincibility in the media prior to tournaments only to kick them once they're down after it.
Much like the proteas the England teams of recent times have been bottlers, they've got one of the best records of any country in the qualifiers up to World Cup or Euros only to bottle and choke under the pressure once they get there.
Also, on paper the squad of 10 years ago was the 'Golden Generation', litered with Champions League winners and balon d'or nominees, Gerrard, Lampard, Beckham, Scholes, Owen, Rooney, Terry, Ferdinand, Campbell, Cole - they were a great quality of players.
The whole setup needs a rethink.

Cole, Lampard, Gascoine, Rooney, Gerrard, Scholes, Terry, Adams, Ferdinand, Owen, etc - have all once upon time been one of the best in the world in their respective positions.

Germany, recently, did a massive rejig with their whole national team setup down to grassroots level and we've seen recently that they're reeping the rewards.

Unfortunately, the English FA are very inept, they should be following in the footsteps of Germany, instead they chop and changes and try for immediate results as opposed to having any sort of vision.

 ^ sorry for the long post Sharkbok, I wholehartedly agree that the majority of English footballers are arrogant though. 
- Also, as much as Rio is a massive twat, sympathies for the loss of his wife. His kids and him must be devastated.

@AgpleezDeddy Beckham was a great player-but underrated in England. 
I saw a Comedian Frankie Boyl on TV that you might have seen.He was reading the team results out on TV and said that England got beat by Macendonia and also by the Aztecs!

They do have some good players but none of their players can dribble/step. As result England struggle to make clean breaks even in one on one situations. 

They also lack outright pace which makes it harder to pass around a defender- and beat the defender to the ball.
Without Beckam's long kicks they are done for. 
In defense of Gerard and other individuals- at club level their are foreign players that can step and pass around defenders to break the defenses. 

Unfortunate to hear about Ferdinand I was not aware of this. 

You're right about that Sharkbok, in the past 10 years they've lacked flair, people to take people on. 
20 years ago, they had Gascoine and Barnes who were quality at doing just that. To be fair to Rooney in his early years he had that in his locker but has since lost that. In fairness with players like Sterling, Barkley, Ox, Ibe, etc there is potential there to work with, so I guess we'll see.

On the Frankie Boyle thing, I probably would have seen it, i think the guy's hilarious one of my favourite comedians!

The English are not very technical, that is something that is lacking in a variety of areas in England as a whole. Consequently, their league is all about speed. The Spanish very much more technical, the Italian slower but very tactical - also more technical. Before big money came into the game buying foreign players it was a long way off the rest. And when they started competing better in the Europe with these foreigners they got caught up in the delusion that English football was powerful, but they have rarely beaten anyone of note in the past 20 years and yet routinely ranked in the top 6-10. Now they bemoan the foreigner that brought them periods of dominance in Europe. But the real question is how do you change the way you play? Your sports always reflects your culture, how can you overturn a culture? The best England have been in the last 20 years was under Erikson in 2002, a team built on solid defence.

 They need Suzie
