Its your choice really......given the fact that if a player gets injured in the WC, you can replace him with a player outside the squad.....so I'd pick at least 2 of ever position as a starting point......or have the odd utility player.

I for instance would not take a 3rd hooker given Bismark and Strauss are street ahead of the rest and the 3rd hooker would waste a valuable place in the squad

 APD
The breakdown is basically as follows:
Tighthead props          -       3Loosehead props         -       3Hookers                     -       3Locks                        -       4Loosies                      -       5
Scrummies                 -        3Flyhalfs                     -        3Wings                       -        3Centers                     -        3Fullbacks                   -        2
There may be some leniency in the backline - the team may have players that can play both at flyhalf or full back or on the wing and full back - which could impact on other positions.
I would not such in players into the squad who have not been in training with the squad since middle June 2015.  However - there are some problem selections - so let me try my luck here bearing in mind that the players need not necessarily play in the positions indicated:-
Full Backs
Jesse KrielWillie le Roux
Wings
Bryan Habana
Ruan CombrinckLionel Mapoe
Centers
Damian de AllendeJean de VilliersHarold Vorster/Jan Serfontein
Flyhalfs
Patrick LambieHandre PollardMorne Steyn
Scrummies
Faf de KlerkFourie du Preez  ?Cobus Reinach
Loosies
Heinrich Brussow
Schalk Burger
Marcel Coetzee
Francois Louw
Duane Vermeulen
Locks
Lood de JagerPieter-Steph du ToitEben EtzebethJacques du Plessis
Props
Tendai MtawariraSteven KitshoffTrevor Nyakane
Jannie du Plessis
Frans MalherbeVincent Koch
Hookers
Bismarck du PlessisScara Ntubeni
Adriaan Strauss

I had some serious problems with the selection, especially iro

*   the wings;*   the centers; and*   the BEE requirements
The problem is that both wings used thus far - JP Pietersen and Cornal Hendricks were seriously deficient and did not contribute to the games at all.  The problem si one will be forced to bring in another Black player and the chances are that it could be Senatla or Sithole - ie if merit is the norm iro of BEE selections.  The better options would have been Van Wyk and Combrinck - even though I would go for Combrinck ahead of any other player.
Insofar as the centers are concerned - Jacque Fourie has already been sent packing because of chronic unfitness and Francois Steyn was hopeless in Super 15 this year - as he was in the previous two years.  Slow and with a whacky knee - he is not worth much in the backline.   Nobody knows whether De Villiers will be up to standard - so there is a problem.  Based on performance in Super 15 I would go for Harold Vorster as the back-up center.
The locks remains a problem.  Meyer is hell-bent on selecting Matfield - but it is abundantly clear that he is useless in Tight 5 play and physically-deficient.    He reduces the Tight 5 to a Tight 4 - something we cannot afford in the WC.  I was disappointed in Flippie on Saturday - he was given a chance and produced near to zero.    I believe that Jacques Du Plessis may be the best option, with Jacques Potgieter being the dark horse in the race.
The bove squad contains only five players of Colour and the ANC would have a hissy-fit about that,  so 3 players of the above will have to make way.  I would guess it would be a wing, a loosie and a scrummie.

 Cheers Dave and Mike.
Mine would be as follows:
15:
Willie (Back up through the rest of the squad)

13:Kriel (can cover fullback)Serf (covers 12)
12:De Allande JDV (fitness permitting)Frans (off form, but he's a big game player and he goes)
11: HabanaSenatla  (wild card pick, defences are unfamiliar with him)
10: PollardLambie (covers 15)
9:FourieFaf
8:Duane (I hope to god he's fit and even if he'll only be fit in the knockouts he goes)Schalk (covers 6/7, plays 7 when Duane plays 8)
7:Louw Jacques Du Plessis (covers lock)

@ agpleeze,

specialist positions like halfback, flyhalf and hooker, would need a minimum three players for the squad.
having only two players for those specialist  positions would mean they will be playing every single game during the RWC.

Out with Ntubeni and in with the Lions hooker Akkers. Otherwise Mike your team on what we currently know is fine. Forget about the anc racists. Pick the side on merit and take whatever consequences there are .

 @AgPleezDeddy
 @naruto

and having only 2 players for those specialist positions (hooker, halfback and flyhalf) if your first choice player (e.g. D. Coles) gets injured for example for just one week, it means that you have to change him because you cannot play one match with only one hooker. It's a must.

Once the changes are made in a WC they cannot be reverted, which in this case means that your first choice player, Coles, cannot play anymore in the WC. You can lose your first choice player for an insignificant injury.

Instead, when you have 3 for each specialist position if your first choice gets a small injury you can play with your 2º and 3rd choice and give time, 1 week or whatever, to your first choice for his recovery.

Great squad Sas you know your players unlike most the clowns on here.
I would not take a 3rd hooker so Scara goes...add another outside back - one of Senatla, Sithole or Combrink. Especially since Kriel is playing 13.
I prefer Vorster to Mapoe as a centre option.
Kolisi or Jaco Kriel ahead of Carr....but I rate Carr.
Your squad is much like mine..a winning one....sadly one we won't see as we have useless Meyer as a coach

Ou Dawie, you taking the piss with your 2 hooker selection ? What happens if one gets injured during a warmup ? Boet, asb. if you're struggling with the basics please don't then compound your woes selecting a squad liberally sprinkled with nevillenobodies & wannabees . Ek vra jou mos ..... Jantjies, Goosen, Hougie, Stander. As for Senatla, Barnacle recently described a sevens game where the oak missed about 10 tackles ........ yet you're prepared to select him to take on the Saveas .

Blob I see you are as thick as ever. If a player gets injured you can replace him with a player outside of the squad you fucking idiot.
Did Senatla miss a tackle playing s15 - NO.....so there we go more ignorance on your part.
Damn right Hougaard who was in fine form this S15. Jantjies was by far our best 10 this S15 and yes Stander the player selected as Munster player of the year.
Maybe you should fucking wake up a little....fat chance of that dumbass

 @saffex,

but it's a must to bring 3 hookers, scrumhalves and flyhalves.
In the case of your team if you select only Bismark and Strauss, now that Strauss isn't at his best Bismark is the nº1 option by far.
If Bismark gets a minor injury during the pool matches, let say a sprain that make him unavalaible for just 1 game. Then you'll have only Strauss as hooker for that match so you have to change Bismark, according to the laws you need 2 hookers in your 23-squad.
Laws also say that once you make a change in your WC squad you cannnot revert it, so once you change Bismark he's out for the rest of the tournament which means that you lose your nº1 option by far, Bismark, for the finals because of a minor injury. This would be a huge blow for the boks.
If you bring 3 hookers, let say Bismark, Strauss and Ntubeni and Bismark gets the minor injury that make him unavalaible for 1 match you can play that match with the other 2 hookers and have Bismark sidelined but without changing him. The next week when Bismark is recovered he can play as he can play the finals.

Unless your first 3 choices for a specialist position are at the same level and you don't care to play with your first choice or with the third, you should bring 3 players for each position.

You cannot risk to lose your incumbents for a minor injury, this is the main reason why all the teams bring 3 players for each specialist position.
In the case of the boks Strauss and Pollard are a step ahead the rest and I would bring 3 hookers and flyhalves. The scrummie spot is a mistery.
In the AB Coles, A. Smith and D. Carter are clearly the incumbents and I would bring 3 hookers, scrummies and flyhalves.
