Its hard to say if this is final, but it's totally usual for the employer to sign to contract before the employee. So if the reports are correct that he has signed, it has to be a done deal.
More likely he has agreed in which case the employer still has an out, but subject to potential disputes..
My own view is HM is a decent coach, and had he won I would have had no problem retaining him. I would certainly have retained Jake. Letting him go set us back 8 years.
But HM didn't win. Nor has he shown much progression over his tenure. His unwillingness to look for better backline help was a negative. So while I supported him fully and deplore the vicious attacks he suffered...I believe it would be better to move on.
It's going to be a new generation of players than those HM coached in the S15... give them a coach of their own era. And pray its not going to be as bad as it seems right now.

Meyer will not have the dead weight of carrying on with the retirees to contend with in future - no more reputation players that dragged SA rugby down over the past three years and in the last year was atrocious, Meyer was not brave enough to replce those duds and that was as grave a mistake as was his lack of ability too get proper backline and attack coaches and his tendency to listen to players like Matfield and Du Preez who must have had a major input in the game plan adopted for the W campaign.
Without the duds the Springbok future will look much brighter than with them. They brought zero to the performance of the team over the last 14 months and during the WC. These duds were some of the players that should have been out of Super 15 - leave alone the Springbok team and fact is they were not the best players available in SA.
The day Mayfield, Alberts, Jannie du Plessis, Fourie du Preez, Zane Kirchner, Schak Brits and Ruan Pienaar are gone out of SA rugby is the day SA Rugby is released from a cancer that was destroying the game.
The future looks so bright without them I need dark glasses.

its a massive blow to sa rugby if this is the case
expect the same drivel from another 5 odd years from the most dogmatic coach in south africa.
lets hope sanity prevails and the general council reverses this terrible decision.
another meyer era will surely lead to record number of overseas based players being picked and a game pattern that will made sa rugby the laughing stock of world rugby

I have heard this report a few times- all from the same source, so not sure it is true. Perhaps Meyer had a performance clause in his contract of semis or better.
If we are going to have a South African coach I would retain Meyer- because at least he has experience. Ideally we choose Robbie Deans or John Mitchell

Did HM have much choice when it came to a backline coach ? If he solved that dilemma he'd need to appoint Lawrence Sephaka as the forward coach .

blobbok we cannot use the excuse of beee in regards to the way we play the game. meyer had more than enough chance in his reign to get a proper specialist in place to fix the issues but as he has stated himself we dont have the skills to play that style so if the coach himself does not believe it how can the players ???

Robbie Deans is not a great coach. Why select a coach McCaw turned down? Not many coaches can better Meyer. Maybe not even Jake.

Oh shit....we are in trouble.
With HM as coach and the ANC in power and enforcing transformation the only three people who are celebrating are:
Zuma, Matfield and Denny.

Sure - the faster downhill we go the better to have Meyer to steer the Springboks down the slippery slope to nowhere. He was the guiding light for defeats against Argentina and Japan. That after a disastrous losing record in the 2014 RC, the EOYT and the 2015 RC. Select the most experienced side ever in Springbok rugby and see the flops hitting us hard.
Meyer on his own is clueless and a danger to any development in rugby terms. If he gets professional help in development of the game in SA he may just be less insipid a coach in rugby terms than he was thus far.
Lets get back to the Japan loss - he was so besotted with experience that the loss was a blessing in disguise. He was forced to get rid of some of his worst selections. and stopped him from bringing into the starting line-up some of the other duds in his squad. Injuries took care of some of the rest of the under-performers in the squad and disaster struck when he picked his semi side.

Soooooooo ... Moffie does a 180.
Haaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahaaaaa!!!
In short he acknowledges that he was wrong all along. That Meyer is and has always been an incompetent chump.
He stated earlier that he and Meyer were always thinking alike. They were on the same page.
Thanks Mozart!!!
Good of you to finally come clean!!!

Just an aside. You probably do not know but in SA a contract is given to the potential employee to sign before it is signed by the employer. The signing by the employer means there is no negotiating scope left - it is a final offer to be accepted or rejected.
So the situation bassically is that the contract is given to the potential employee and if he signs it - the final act is signing by the employer. If he asked for some changes it is considered and sometimes minor changes are made to accommodate the potential employee,
After he has signed the next step is for the employer to sign and that is when it actually becomes a done deal. In the case of SARU that would require a General Council approval as stated by Hoskins and that is not implying a done deal yet. The General Council has the right to reject the contract offer - in which case the post will have to be advertised or ask for certain amendments in which case the present signed by Meyer will be negated and a new contract will be submitted for signature by him, etc.
However, SARU will have to contend with the viewpoints expressed by leading figures in Rugby in South Africa and what is likely to happen is that the coaches assisting Meyer as Head Coach will b reviewed and the procedure changed. It is likely that Meyer mat sray and his coaching subordinates changed.

Something has to change. Minnow sides look more slick than the Boks. Only tremendous talent kept us at all competitive.Meyer really has no clue and no clarity of purpose. The game plan against the Argies was the last straw. The man refuses to learn. We suffered Pie naar kicking our ball away AIMLESSLY. Given possession to the Argies and leaving us having to tackle our hearts out for most of the game. Which is very tiring and as negative as can be. There was nothing wrong with our backline potential apart from not having a dynamo like FAf de Klerk at scrumhalf.
It was a big price to pay as there is no ways the wee abs could have beaten this side if they had not played very dom rugby. I doubt even bent refs could have saved the wee abs. This stupidity, aside from the matfiled fiasco, cost us the RWC.
End of Story

Has Faf developed a box kick yet?
From what I saw of him during Super rugby this was one of his few weaknesses. He is fast, strong, good pass, keeps the forward in line & feeds the backs well.

Retaining Henry and co after 2007 worked so maybe its for the best ?

Meyer was forced to change his squad and due to the performance clause in his contract, he was offered an extended 4 years as compensation. There is a committee responsible for making a recommendation to the full board for the appointment of the coach. The board can still reject this recommendation and send the committee back for a new proposal. Meyer was guaranteed this stamp of approval if he accepted certain amendments to his squad sellections. There have already been complaints from at least 3 home union leaders regarding this. SARU will have their hans full in getting Meyer's appointment approved. The smaller union will use this as leverage to further other agendas....putting more hurdles in the way of success. The only way we can rid ourselves from this cesspool of greed and deceit, is by adopting a purely commercial system for managing our game. Get the rugby politicians out of the game and replace them with real commercial manager's. Make the vote of successful clubs count more than the corrupt lot. Put achievement on the top. Quality over quantity. Boot mob rule out of the game.

We need to identify our top 5 players, devise a gameplan that best suit them and sellect the rest of the squad to best compliment them.

An interesting idea Draad...but probably too vulnerable to injuries. I think you have allow some movement in the game plan for players eg when an Habana or a Willie comes along. But there has to be an underlying strategy that is reasonably constant.
I think our biggest issue is handling among the forwards and the lack of pace onto the ball in the backs. These to me are more skill set things. The numbers keep showing we don't kick any more than NZ. But there are always the last two up and unders that cede pos session when we are struggling to get the ball....very apparent in the last 20 minutes against Bargie when we scored no points and really had a chance to put them to the sword.

Our main problem has been the gfct that the older players are stuck in a game they played early in their career and they are incapabl of adjusting. That game o the Bulls was repeated exactly in 2014 and the players could not handle it. The idea to play skill-deficient players as loosies - has been a\our main problem and we can only affrd one of those. The other two must eb skil;led players with the encessary pace to carry balls in both space and in traffic. The former was totally absent in our loosies under Meyer,
Meyer wanted Matfield - useless in Tight 5 play and constantly wanted a loosie who could asist in Tight 5 play. He ended up with two deficient players as a result.
Then we have the issue of ball protection and recovery - but that went straight over your head - so no discussion necessary in this case.

Moz, I agree that putting too much emphasis on only a few players will make us too dependent on them, but you need a clear plan and vision to build towards a goal. We tend to decide on the plan and then try and mould our players to fit a certain profile...and then tend to coach all the creative spark out of them. I sugest doing it the other way around. It should not be too rigid, but we need a starting point and vision...flexible, but clear. Just going through the motions won't do.

Please no more Meyer!!!???
Between Meyer, Ruan and a few others. I can't. No more! They're all probably cool guys but something is badly wrong.
The scorecard was kind to the Boks in the semis. And aside from that game their entire campaign was bad. Luckily some young guys got experience though. Maybe enough to build a team around?
Whether it's the Lions or Stormers coach, i dont my mind. For me it has to be a new coach. I doubt Meyer will keep his job. We'll see :)

I think Meyer had the opportunity to chuck out the useless he selected and still meet the political demands made of him. He should never have selected Morne Steyn, Ruan Pienaar, Willem Alberts, Schalk Britz. Coenie Oosthuizen and even Victor Matfield, Most of the mentioned players had virtually no game time and when they did they were largely useless.
The problem of political pressure could be met without destroying the team potential as Meyer did.

all and all gents take everything considered meyer has done nothing of substance in the past 5 odd years to warrant another stint
henry won 80% of his games so we cannot really use that as a yardstick for meyer
sa rugby has deeper issues yes but it starts with meyer
