Former Springbok centre Brendan Venter has taken a swipe at Jake White's credentials to replace Stuart Lancaster as the next England coach. Venter, who has recently served as a technical advisor at both the Sharks in South Africa and Saracens in England, was watching on Friday as Jake White's Montpellier went down 41-18 to Harlequins in a European Challenge Cup clash in London.
Venter, who was involved at the Sharks when White's appointment as coach of the union's Super Rugby side was announced in 2013, took to Twitter to voice his disapproval of White's coaching methods.
"Watching Quins play Montpellier. Jake White has definitely not embraced the modern way of playing. Kicking everything. Good luck Eng," Venter tweeted before getting stuck in some more.
"Having worked over there I can assure you the Twickenham faithful will be cutting their wrists if Jake got that job," Venter continued.
Venter also suggested that White should be winning more domestic games playing such a "negative" brand of rugby. Montpellier are currently 6th in the French Top 14 standings.
White has been vocal on his desires to replace Lancaster as England coach, and he has been considered one of the favourites for the post. The 2007 World Cup-winning Springbok coach was quoted this week as saying that Heyneke Meyer should not have his contract with the Springboks renewed."
Oops - why do I get the feeling that Mozart and co will flip a lid about the above. They would say that Venter is stupid as well - because Mozart swear the brand of rugby used by White is the only game in town. Now why did we say that the Sharks asked White to leave? Because he was clueless about the game iro backline usage. Anyone destroying the backline and thrusting Fat Fransie Steyn - no Venter confirm the same.
Venter went further and tweeted the following message as well:-
* Watching Quins play Montpellier. Jake White has definitely not embraced the modern way of playing. Kicking everything. Good luck Eng.
* Having worked over there i can assure you the Twickenham faithful will be cutting their wrists if Jake got that job.
* Once you decide to play this negative you have to win everything.
* .How can we criticize Heyneke for being one dimensional. Jake is 6 th in France. Loosing 5 tries to 0 in Europe. Playing shocking rugby. ?
* Coaching is not easy. But. We all need to embrace change and Jake is struggling with it. If Heyneke can not he should also move on.
Very clear and precise on the issue. The last tweet is significant - Meyer has proven over and over again that he cannot embrace change - so according to Venter;s analysis he should also go.
