The PSDT loose forward experiment against Japan was an unmitigated disaster. Japan ruled the breakdown and the rest is just bad memory
With Lood now in the form of his life, Eztebeth is top form and Matfield playing well at the lineouts and drives- their might not be space in the match day squads.
He does not appear to be a loose forward- at this point it remains to be seen if his form is anything but average.
His only option at this stage is to compete for a loose forward spot- and that will be as a direct replacement to Alberts.
Vermuelen, Schalk and Flouw are certainties.Kolisi will be on the bench. Their will be one more spot.
If Alberts does not get reinjured, and he has a decent game against USA- he will be on the bench at least.

T hat's a more balanced assessment. Lets hope Alberts gets back to his best, an irrepressible force when he is anywhere near it.

Alberts at his best was always a failure as a loosie - so how could we benefit from hiom getting back to his inadequate best?  One pf the worst nightmares I ever had was his missed tackle on Read in the Ellis Park test in 2013 and him falling over his own feet instead of trying to recover a ball in a breakdown situation when he was the nearest player to the tackled Aaron Smith preceding Messam's first try in that game. And that was when Alberts was supposed to eb at his best.   What a joke!!!!!!

Stephanie played one good game,  in the CC final a few years back...it's a distant memory.

It will be thankfully the last time we see the present disgraces of Jannie and Matfield in the team when we play Wales - they are sure to lose the match for us if Meyer is foolish enough to play them.

Moz, that's what I had been missing. I almost never watch the CC so I missed where the hype stemmed from. So it begins and ends like Lamebie! LOL!

Not only lose, but because of Vic. So if we do, and Vic plays, we will have to review it and see where Vic cost us the game. It's a very safe prediction on the surgace, but quite bold, if not reckless beneath the veil.

If Vic plays we will lose as he is the biggest liability the Boks have had in years

Matfield sells us short in the engine room. Is a liability in the scrums, adds no grunt to the rucks or mauls, is not capable of clearing players away or imposing himself physically on the charge or in the tackle.

Lood doesn't do very much outside clearing rucks, less than vic in fact. Not very mobile, not as good around the field. Worse hands.

Fox, I sometimes wonder if you are actually joking with the stuff you spew out. Quick question, are you just being argumentative for the fun of it, or do you actually believe what you are saying? Not poking fun, a serious question.

Oh what fucking utter rubbish, what fucking game were you watching on the weekend......Lood on the charge scores tries - tick, Lood on the charge busts tackles or gains metres - tick, Lood making a hit, smashes players back - tick, Lood given his grunt, is an asset in the scrums, rucks and mauls - tick, Lood clearing out a ruck is huge - tick

Matfield does not tick one of those boxes and that's a FACT you ignorant fool.

The world over is calling for Lood to replace old Vic for the rest of the WC......why is that?

Re: Sport 24

London – The quality of the Springboks’ dynamic lock pair Eben Etzebeth and Lood de Jager is increasingly being appreciated in the English press.

RWC 2015 is inevitably slipping from prominence in UK newspapers following the pool-phase exit of the main host nation – the first time this has occurred at the World Cup – but in what is left of the coverage, South Africa’s young second-row staffers are earning rave reviews.

Following the latest, imperious showing from the Bok pack with their Nos 4 and 5 very much to the fore, against Scotland at Newcastle, the following tribute was recorded by Michael Aylwin of The Guardian (www.theguardian.com): “De Jager’s partnership with Etzebeth is one for the ages, the two of them bounding, brutal identikits of each other.

“De Jager topped South Africa’s tackle and carry count (at St James’ Park) – a remarkable achievement for a tight forward.

“If ever a player deserved to keep his place despite the return (injury-permitting) of a centurion captain (Victor Matfield), he is it.

“It is a question that has been asked before, not always of the same person (an obvious reference to the jinxed Jean de Villiers – Sport24), and it remains relevant: should SA pick their captain?

“Matfield, all 38 years and 125 caps of him, had a superb game against Samoa ... but against the Scots De Jager was even better.”

The current Bok combination at lock also earned the nod together in the regular RWC “team of the week” chosen in the Daily Telegraph (www.telegraph.co.uk) after every weekend’s activity in the tournament.

Writer and “selector” Steve James, once an England cricketer who made his Test debut against South Africa in 1998, described the Cheetahs player as “simply immense” against Scotland and Etzebeth as “in his element as SA bullied the Scots”.

Etzebeth and De Jager front up again on Wednesday (17:45 SA time) to the United States in the Boks’ final pool fixture, with victory guaranteeing them a quarter-final ticket.

I have stated before that Lood is a strong carrier. Tha was a miswording though, the point I am emphasizing is that he doesn't have much aside from carries. As I said in another thread when comparing him to Flip, he is not a factor at the breakdown and has mobility issues, such as when he was struggling to keep pace after a Scot kick downfield and sibsequently impeded du Preez.

Fox, he is a factor at the breakdown, much as an on form Alberts is. He does not pilfer ball, but he drives players back in the tackle allowing other players the opportunity to attack the ball. He is very effective in the line out, strong in rucks and mauls, I have not noticed any handling issues whatsoever, is strong at scrum time and is a very effective tackler. Is he as mobile as Victor? Maybe not, although Victor is also not as mobile as he used to be when he was a suitable age. Lastly, Lood is certainly not an ill disciplined penalty machine like Flip! The two players cannot be compared.

Flip is better than Lood and his discipline issues are exaggerrated! On Saturday Lood himself was penalized and had a word from the ref, points on the board for Scotland.

So he gave away a penalty, what is your point? All players give away penalties? It is certainly not an ongoing issue.
Flip is better than Lood??? What have you got against this poor guy? You seem to be against him just because Saff and Mike are for him! Your arguments against him are just not valid! And please don't use his mobility as an argument, because he is perfectly mobile enough to perform his function. He is not a back line player, and should not pretend to be one.

You seriously cannot state that Flip is better than De Jager - are you totally deranged or only pretending to be.   Flip in 35 tests scored 1 try - De Jager in 15 games scored 3 tries.
In at least 25% of the games Flip played in he got yellow carded and for the Bulls he also had been banned a number of times.  I give you the stats iro the last test Flip started in for the Springboks - ie in June last year against Wales:-
van der Merwe0/000/0/6500015/31/021/0
Please note the number of ball carries - distance gained (0.85 meters average per carry) - lost possession once - made 5 tackles and missed three - took one line out ball - gave away 2 penalties - had the inevitable yellow card thrown in for good measure.
That last test is not much different from his regular performances in tests.   So please explain to us why Flip is better than Lood.    That would be fun to see!!!!
 Am going to LMAO.
