Le Roux is licking his lips; Rugby 365

Springbok fullback Willie le Roux is hoping to make the most of the attacking potential of the backline against Argentina on Saturday. Coach Heyneke Meyer made just one change to the backline that started in the defeat to the All Blacks at Ellis Park, with captain Jean de Villiers returning from long-term injury to take his place at outside centre and Jesse Kriel moving out to the wing. Although Kriel has been something of a sensation at outside centre in his first two Tests, the fact that he has played at fullback for the Bulls along with his considerable pace make him an exciting prospect out wide. Le Roux said that the selection gives him the best of both worlds with the experience of De Villiers in midfield and Kriel's explosiveness outide him. "It is exciting, Jesse is still in the side, Jean is coming in and Damian is playing great rugby. I like to move into the centre positions on second phase and they move out and we create and mix together," he said. He does not expect Kriel to wait for the ball to come to him at Kings Park, and explained that the Springboks will be able to vary their attack with so many different options available to them. "I don't think Jesse is going to stand on the wing the whole day, he is definitely going to come in and he likes to push me in and move out to run off me so it is a nice combination. "I think the back three is very important and we work together, wings on strings they call it at the back. "Jesse is a great player and I can't wait to play with him on the wing," he said. Le Roux said that having some continuity in selection at the back makes things easier for the players in what the Springboks consider a 'must-win' game. "If you play week-in and week-out with the same guys you get to know them even though you are not at the same franchises in Super Rugby. "It is similar to the backline from last week it is just Jean coming in and what a great guy to come into your backline," he said. Although Meyer admitted that he was very tempted to start Pat Lambie at fullback, Le Roux is grateful for another chance to start as he looks to cement his spot at the back ahead of the World Cup. "I am still in the side, he is still picking me so he has to have some faith in me. "I think if you get gametime every week you get better so for me it is just about playing and performing on the field. "I think if you go out there and make a few mistakes you are going to doubt yourself for the World Cup squad, so you want to go out there and enjoy yourself but at the same time you can't make many mistakes because there is a guy there waiting for his chance," he added. He is expecting to be kept busy fielding high balls at Kings Park by a Pumas side that puts a big focus on their tactical kicking. "They like to box it, I expect a kicking battle on Saturday, so I will have to get up in the air and take those balls, that is my job," he said. For a long time Le Roux was seen as the creative spark in the Springbok backline, but with the emergence of the likes of Kriel and De Allende they now have a couple of different attacking threats, and it will be interesting to see how they link up with one another if they are given some space to run in on Saturday. By Michael de Vries, in Durban
