JJ Engelbrecht was downright poor - and the rest of the no 13's was not much better.   Other than Engelbrecht - Mapoe played in all the matches of Super 14 and he was probably the best of a poor crop.    Sadie's defense has improved substantially since last year and he has some ball sense - so he was probably the second best of he present lot.   De Jongh in most matches showed serious deficiencies in defence and his attacking abilities - despite the better performance today. is seriously problematic.  His tendency to lose ball possession remains a serious problem. 


The youngster who was really impressive was Huw Jones in the Hurricanes match and I would really like to see more of him at 13 in future matches.

De Jongh had a superb game today. He missed the tackle on the huge wing in the first Tahs try, but it was a tough one. For the rest his defence was superb and his interception won the match which was still in the balance at that stage.

 Huw Jones is English, won't qualify for the Boks this RWC atleast.

I know he was borne in England - but the question is - how long has he been in SA?  Has he got permanent residence and does he qualify for SA Citizenship - I do not know.

As p-er normal you missed the point made in this case completely.  This discussion is about the matches during the whole season - not only the match yesterday. 
In any event since when is a missed tackle ratio over 22 representing superb defense? In any event I did mention h had a better match yesterday - but that was it.   In the Highlanders game it was  37,5 for instance.   
In 7 matches he played in his tackle stats were as follows:-
Tackles Made        =      25Tackles Missed      =      10Missed tackle ratio  =     28,8
In any event in the games in question he lost ball possession 11 times.   All in all not suitable for Springbok selection - since his defense and ball retention remains a serious negative.

What happened to de villers , I thought he would be over his injury I time for the RWC?  Not that I am saying he is the answer to the center prob . but Meyer may select him anyway.

The initial assessment was that De Villiers would be out for at least 6 months and there has been no news on him as yet.  Fact is that it is highly unlikely that he would play any matches in Super 15 this year.
After that there are only 5 matches in the RC before the RWC - so the serious question is when would he gets match fit and prove his match fitness on the field of play?   I think if there was any positive news on De Villers there would have been some indication of progress - but there is none.
Although he is probably the most gentlemanly of all captains in world rugby and an asset to the game in general - I am afraid he is unlikely to be back to play in the WC this year. 
Meyer's selections are often the means of great mirth - they are so foolish it is unbelievable.

There is absolutely no problems re 13. Both Vorster and Odendaal are fast enough to play 13. Allende also can play   13 as well as JP, Jean, Sadie and Mapoe. Minisi is also looking promising.
All that is the problem is the ability to recognise what needs to be done.

Mapoe is playing well. JJ has lost his mojo......Sadie was solid enough. de Jongh did nothing of note other than get owned by the big wing.
We should be seeing Howard and Fisher playing at 13 for the Stormers and Sharks respectively.
de Allende or Jessie Kriel would be my Bok 13's now.

I still think that JJ should move to  wing - he will do much better in that position.  He will never succeed as a center playing for the Blue Bulls - unfortunately playing at center for the Bulls is the "graveyard" for centers.

 Huw Jones wasn't born in England, he was born in Edinburgh ! But he is English and just went over to you guys for his Gap Year. He stayed when UCT gave him a place instead of taking up his position at Swansea. But he fully intends coming back home.......

There is no way that Meyer - retarded as he is - will select Serfontein ahead of De Allende based on present form.   That puts Serfontein's selection in jeopardy unless Meyer decides to move De Allende to 13.  If he decides to bring in Kriel at 13, the best Serfontein can hope for is to be on the bench.

No you are wrong.......Serfontein will be a certainty as Meyer has already said how impressed he is with Serfontein at test level, despite playing out of position at 13.......Serfontein was one of our better players.

 

de Allende has already been in the Bok set up and for some reason useless Meyer never showed faith in him.......so he is already on the back foot when it comes to the Boks.

 

With Jean out my guess is that Serfontein and de Allende will be the centre combo.....Meyer only played de Allende at 13, so my guess is that it would be the way I would call it and play Jan at 12 and de Allende at 13 as it should be.

 

If Kriel gets selected as he should......he will be used as a utility player.......mostly on the wing as this is where we are a little short.......I would imagine Kriel would be used on the wing or at 15 before we ever see him at 13.

I think she is studying law or something and dad is the managing partner of a law firm which she plans to join

Well, he has stated that he fully intends to return here...even in online SA articles. So ? Who knows ? 
Personally, it would be nice if someone chose love over money for once in this sorry world, but I very much doubt that will happen
