The following from News24:-
" Victor Matfield’s Springbok career might not be over, despite the assumption that the victory over Argentina in the Bronze Final at the Rugby World Cup represented the veteran lock forward’s final appearance for his country.

Speaking in a short video clip to be shown on The Dan Nicholl Show on SuperSport on Wednesday night, Matfield suggested that he was disappointed people had said he had played his last game for the Boks.

“I still have big dreams. 2019, I might be there,” Matfield says.

Matfield, now 38, would be 42 when the 2019 World Cup takes place in Japan, but former team-mate and World Cup winner Ashwin Willemse, a guest on the first episode of season two of The Dan Nicholl Show, suggested it wasn’t impossible that Matfield could make it, and paid tribute to the veterans in the side, saying “all of the elderly folk delivered” at the tournament.

Willemse, ex-Proteas cricketer Mark Boucher, and radio and television personality Gareth Cliff, are Wedesday night’s guests on The Dan Nicholl Show, which kicks off a new season at 19:00 on SuperSport 1.

Follow The Dan Nicholl Show, brought to you by BrightRock only on SuperSport, at@dannichollshow"

After buggering up badly in the Semi-final in the RWC and being a disaster for the Springboks over the last 14 months, what the hell is this lunatic thinking by making the above statement.

This must by far the craziest statement ever made by a rugby player.  This shows he is not only a failed player - he has a mental complex about how wonderful he thinks himself he really is.  After his lunacy in the semi - proving that he is a blazing idiot -  this must be making him the leading idiot ever playing rugby.

"Buggering"....Pervert for your own disguise, you should never use that word, but I can see the whole subject is top of mind.

Well to tell u the truth.....I am not at all surprised by Greybeards comments.
He honestly thinks he is the best and invincible.
Talk about being overrated and arrogant......
Hey Matfield u have been overrated since day one.
Now for the sake of your children go away.
U have embarrassed them enough with your showing at the WC.
Be gone!

Whats the problem with the old guys ?Our old geezers crapped all over the wobs ,hell guys like Ma'a Nonu ,McCaw et al are still hitting their straps ! Why would you want to bring down guys who have given you  so much ? Matfield at the very least could be at the next cup as lineout coach.

I hope Vikki convinces Jannie and the band of brothers to stick around as well.Maybe we can set our sights on losing to Georgia.

 Mozart
If Matfield was the best lock over the last 20 years - why is he rated as such by you and virtually nobody else.  Most people do not rate him as a lock because he has zero grunt and was always useless in Tight 5 play.   If you rate him then say when in that 20 years he was the best lock.  That period definitely stopped more than 5 years ago.   He was utterly useless in the tests since 2014 - when he was in 6 losses out of 12 matches played.
This idea of having a 38 year old lock is stupid and that showed in Matfieldd's deficient displays in the tests he played in.   He should have stayed retired and allowed for the development of experience by other real  locks.
MB is right - with him and his other oldies around - Georgia will be too big a step to get over.  He is unlikely to find a place in any SA fran chise in Super 15 and definitely not in the Bulls team after the departure of Ludeke - and that was likely the reason for his departure for Northampton.   The Bulls could not released him from his contract quickly enough and he will not get a playing contract from them anyway.  No other Union - other than the brain-deficient Sharks and maybe the useless Kings  - will even look at him as a potential signee by a Super series franchise.
This is in any event a further sign of the similarity between Matfield and his main supporter on this site Mozart - they both have the same superiority complex idiocy.  So it is no surprise that Mozart does not see how utterly stupid he is in his comments about the useless Matfield.

Uhm, tongue-in-cheek? Matfield has to know about the outcry over his age and is clearly taking the p!ss out of people like Mike by threatening to be there for the next World Cup .

 Pakie
The outcry is not about his age only - it is about his performance more in particular.   And I doubt whether he was taking the piss out of people - he is in earnest more particularly - since he has a superiority complex like is unbelievable.

I think the matfiled groupies are also to blame. They heaped unwarranted praise on this hopeless player regardless. As AJ correctly says he was overrated from day one.
Huge ego involved.
I cannot believe Meyer will be stupid enough to retain him. There has to be a limit to a persons stupidity although the exception to this rule is obviously rooitwit and the kbbs especially warped DUD!
Pakie this is so daft you may be right but we are dealing with a big ego. He probably will be after the B ok coaching job!

Matfield WAS good! He is not anymore! Arthur John, I think you have hit the nail on the head. It is now just arrogance for him to think he can still play in the next World Cup! I have met him before, and my impression of him was that he thought if he sat down, the sun would stop shining!

Beans, I am not a great Matfield fan, but when he was younger he was effective because he was more mobile than most other locks. Also, his line-out work was exemplary! However, he is no longer anything other than average at line-out time, and the game has changed in the last 5-8 years, and now requires both locks to be more physical!

I gained the same expressions as you have about Matfield.  His ego is gigantic and that is reflected both on and off the field of play.

I am 100% sure that if you asked Lood de Jager and Etzebeth about Matfield's contribution in their development, they would tell you that they had a huge advantage playing with him and having him involved with them over the last few years. I would put money on that. The only one who would not have learnt a lot from him is probably PSDT, because he was always in rehab.

You are sure  "they would tell you that they had a huge advantage playing with him and having him involved with them over the last few years."  Playing with an under-performer was no advantage for those two.
The only comments made by Etzebeth recently was how he enjoys plying with De Jager - not a word about Matfield.
The only thing Matfield could potentially have taught them is how not to perform as locks in tight 5 situations and how instead to stand around in the backline.  The idea that Matfield is such a brilliant player has vanished in the semi when through rank stupidity he buggered up badly.
Matfield was a good player 6 years ago - Matfeld at present is an embarrassment and nobody will learn anything useful from him.   Only the absolutely ignorant will come up with that type of BS to justify the of inclusion of this has-been and useless fool in the team.

Ceradunce - why should I ask them?  I do not have a twitter account - but since you are so sure you can ask Etzebeth and De Jager?   I go by what they said in newspapers.   Do you think they want to get on the wrong side of Meyer - by saying anyth ing negative about his pal.

Ernie is a nice guy with never a bad word for anyone.  I would have said the same after Matfield got his 100th cap.  Since then he ruined his reputation totally.   In the end Matfield let down the Springboks comprehensively.

Are you saying that Ernie was billsh!ting, just to uphold his "nice guy" image, when he said that on 30 Oct after Matfield's last test? If you go to Ernie's Twitter page you will know how, unlike you, he publicly and vocally supported the Boks before and through the entire RWC campaign. Something that you would not understand the meaning of. He is also clearly a great Lions fan. Compare

There are a number of BSters around on this site - but they are in close competition with each other.  You are a definite on that one - so your comment is that coming from one of the biggest BSters ever.   You are a bloody idiot as well.
Seeing the comments of Els as BSting is as ridiculous as your normal BSting brain can conjure up.

Whooosh. Trying to dodge the bullet again, hey ou Sopdoos? I never said that he was BSing. I asked you whether you are implying that he was BSing when he said that. Not that I did not expect you to try ans sidestep the issue again.
So tell me. Do you not even feel a little bit ashamed when you see how, unlike you, the Boks had Ernie's unconditional support?

I never dodge any bullet - I am only careful when it comes to of the BS you normally write on this site,  They had my unonditional support as well.  But I was realistic and said Matfield will F#ck up any chance of winning - which he duly did.  A bit of advice dofdoos - learn something about realism when it coes to players you punt - they are routinely handicaps.

Veektor could come off the bench and perform the same job as Kevvy Mealamu did for the ABs .Notice how the ABs measured how good their lineout is doing when winning the odd one against Wiktor  eh ?
