Matfield under the knife - out of action for 3 to 4 weeks

It has been confirmed that veteran Springbok lock Victor Matfield will have surgery on his knee, ruling him out for three to four weeks. Reports surfaced early last week of Matfield's knee injury, but the Bulls played down the problem and suggested that the lock was being rested for the match against the Lions. However, after consultation with renowned knee specialist Doctor Daan Du Plessis on Tuesday, it was confirmed they would need to operate. According to Bulls doctor Org Strauss, Matfield is going into surgery Wednesday for an arthroscopy on the knee to fix up damaged cartilage. "The idea is to get it done now to avoid problems going forward – especially with the World Cup getting closer as well," Strauss said. Matfield's injury blow has been softened by the news that fellow Springbok Flip van der Merwe has returned to training with the Bulls, after an injury of his own.

 The are getting him ready for the RWC. That will cause mixed reactions. 
It should be a morale booster for Beeno who it seems is in need of such. 

No this is perfect....a light tuning up of the knee......and a nice rest so Victor wont be playing the whole S15 getting physically assaulted in a losing cause. Look for the great man to be soaring by June!

 Look for the BS continuing.  This guy never soared anymore - he is too afraid of being outjumped in line-outs to call them to come to him and his line out work has been reduced to something near to between 1 and 4 line-outs per match.    His Tight 5 work  and ball carries are non-existent and since he moonlights in the backline instead of doing any work up front he does some weak tackles on players.  For the rest - his contribution to the team is a myth in the minds of some and in fact is minimal.
His contribution to the Springbok team is so poor that our Tight 5 has been under severe pressure - in fact he has reduced it to a Tight 4 combination.   
I hope he has a good recovery from the operation - followed by an equally quick retirement from rugby .

Hmmmmm let's see how the Bools do in his absence, they have already lost to the lowly Lions....and if I recall the Bok scrum got vastly better after Vic replaced the languid Lomp.
That kickoff the Bools spilled to give the Lions a game t hey had in effect won....would never have happened under Victor. But the thicker fan totally misses these things.

 Bwhaaahaaaaa the Bok scrum got better when wee Vic joined.....would that be in those losses to NZ, Oz, Wales and Ireland.....its no coincidence that the Boks lost more tests against the major sides after liability Vic joined the gang.....with it went the physical edge.
Vic is currently our worst Bok.

No it would be after the Bargie tests where the poor looseheads in front of Lomp had no support.....our worst scrumming was against the Bargies....fact.  

 O yes - our worst scrumming was against the Bargies - when dear Ouma Victoria was not present.   But who were the props and locks in those games?

However, despite desperately poor scrumming we won both tests.  Whaere we did not win were -
*   against Australia where Matfied's stats were as follows:-

(no ball carries, 1 ball possession loss, missed tackle ratio 23,5%, 5 line-out takes, 1 penalty given away - a substandard performance.  Granted Morne Steyn made sure of that loss);
*  against New Zealand - where the last line-out was fluffed by Matfield after another dreadful Tight 5 performance;
*   against Ireland -  where Matfield took his line-outs (one of few cases last year when he did call line-outs to come to him), but the Irish were all over us in Tight 5 play;
*    against Wales - where our Tight 5 was demolished.
In all the games mentioned - bar the last test against  Wales - one name was there all the times - Jannie du Plessis.   When he and Matfield played together in tests - our Tight 5 went to pieces.  
Matfield started off calling line outs to himself - as the tests progressed in 2014 - it progressively got less and less ( with the Irish test the only exception).  The reason is that Matfield towards the end of games regularly fluffed line-outs.
