The Stade Français playmaker has fallen out of Meyer's favour since the rise of Handrè Pollard during the 2014 Junior World Championship.

Nevertheless, Steyn's impressive CV saw him force his way into the South African World Cup squad and he has now been selected in the matchday 23 for the clash against the USA at the Olympic Stadium in London.

"Morné's probably what all South Africans and Springboks should be," said the former Bulls coach.

"He's here to serve and the thing that hasn't been nice for him is that youngsters have been playing ahead of him. He's done everything, played 70-odd tests, been a World Cup winner, beat the British and Irish Lions on his own.

"I never had to keep him positive, he's been in great form and he's been an example to everyone, helping other guys with their kicking. He's a great ambassador for South Africa so I’m really happy for him."

Meanwhile, Meyer is remaining quietly confident that his charges can go all the way in England despite losing to Japan in the group stages. Should the Springboks win the World Cup, it will be the first time a team has done so after losing a match in the pools.

"There are so many examples of comebacks throughout the world, of things that people said could never happen," continued an optimistic Meyer.

"They said the mile would never be run in under four minutes and now everybody's running under four minutes.

"I'm a very positive person, I believe anything is possible and I've been in situations where I've lost every single game, come back and won trophies. But we don't look past this game. I mean it."

On his positive assessment on Steyn, how could anyone possibly disagree?

This sounds like a loaves and fishes thing....HM has been in situations where he has "lost every single game, come back and won trophies"....how does he do that? You have to admit, this is impressive.

Good luck to him but what is not at all impressive is his doting on the words most pap lock!
Morne is okay but pollard is better. With the wise head of Du Preez running things we are in a  good place at half back.

Morné is still the better passer of the two. You can do a lot with Morné, and lets face it, his game management is still better than Pollard's. He should never have been dropped.

I can't think of any international player who was crucified more comprehensively for one mistake, that should have been mitigated by the team. Morne misses touch against Oz and disappears despite winning everything except the WC. Allende gets picked in spite of missing a crucial tackle against Oz, which nobody could mitigate...and in spite of having accomplished zippo.
Then HM says Morne has been unlucky. Nope, his coach ran for cover.

Morne is the worst flyhalf imaginable - his last test was typical - Remember PERTH 2014 plus so many others.

Morne's the best kicker we have,, he;s got a good pass of both hands but he's very conservative in his gameplay so the passing skills he has isn't really used to it's full potential.

If he took a few more risks in the games, stood a bit more flat I think he'd be a much better player but he stands quite deep, it's just that's how he's been raised at flyhalf.

Interesting to see who Meyer wants on the bench out of Lambie and Steyn in the knockouts.

Mornes passes are very useful, just look at 2013-2014.
Michael, Perth was not Mornes best test by any stretch. But was it worse than Damians Aussie test? LMAO! No!! Damian made only one successful tackle all game and was beaten directly for two tries and they nearly got a third. And what did Damian do on attack? Nothing.
Morne was part of all our successful attacks in Perth. His deft passing flat on the line got Willie on the outside of the defensive edge and we score a try. He made some very good tackles, like chasing Toomua and tackling him in Australias 22, cutting out a wide play where Australia had numvers in acres of space. Had support not been slow we would have at best won a turnover at worst a crucial penalty. What has Lamebie done? Squat. Heck, Lamebie missed an even easier kick against England. Something he has a habit of doing, as he has missed simple kicks into the corner several times already dor the Sharks and Boks, and Barbarians. What was ever said about that? Or when Lamebie costs us a test conceding game losing tries? Nothing. He even blew our 2011 WC run!
No, this is what happened. Subhuman Saffers who evolved from bacteria in Cretaceous excrement put a target on his back and waited for one excuse to nail him. I cannot lie, if these sheeple were to somehow disappear in a cataclysmic event, I wouldn't much care. At most a yawn.

.....yet, the backs on his outside has always been scoring tries. During his days at the Bulls, their wings regularly featured among the top try scorers in Super Rugby.

Big difference Moz, de Allende and co are actually talented rugby players who make mistakes as all players do. Morne is a piss poor player who also makes mistakes but should never have been there in the first place.

APD it makes no difference where he stands, he does not have the skill set to beat another man or take a gap

Ceradyne, I think that's a testament to his passing skills which are very good, I just think he'd be more creative and generally better if he took a few more risks.

I suppose it's opinions Saffex, I still think he's not one for the match 23, Lambie and Pollard are ahead for me but I don't think he's woeful at all. But with Pollard and Lambie fit I wouldn't see him start or on the bench.

I must have missed the World Cup he won and the match he played and beat the B&I Lions all by himself. The rest of his CV is impressive too.

Dim Fox
Morne was a disaster in the Perth test - but also in most other tests he played in.   In the Perth test Morne missed 7 of the tackles he attempted - ie a missed tackle ratio opf 46%.   Gact is although Pakie trieed to manipulate the figures De Allende made 21 tackle attempts missing 6 of those - missed tackle ratio of 28,6%.   In the case of De Allende he made.  In the Perth test Steyn made no line breaks beating no defenders and lost ball possession once and gave away one penalty.
In the Aussie test this year De Allende made 2 clean line breaks, beating 3 tackles and off-loaded sucessfully the ball once.
The following statement made by you can be ascribed only to an absolute nut case - who has the audacity to state consequently that he knows bugger-all about the game of rugby even though he himseff regards him as the almighty authority on all matters relating to rugby:-
"But was it worse than Damians Aussie test? LMAO! No!! Damian made only one successful tackle all game and was beaten directly for two tries and they nearly got a third. And what did Damian do on attack? Nothing"
Not only dim - but an absolute idiot.
