Couple of points on the Kirchner try. It was a brilliant pick up by Jean, a threatened run which froze the defence and a brilliant pass. Any fair person can see that. Then JJ accelerates well and turns on the burners. Kirchner who is ahead waits for him and then runs comfortably next to the flat out JJ as does Willie who dropped behind with the initial acceleration and caught up. So the speed differences here are almost non existent.

Now the pass. A pass to the outside man Willie was to an unmarked player....if well done, he scores without having to beat a tackle.....the gap to the covering defender was big enough. The inside pass worked because the Aussie cover defender was wrong footed. But how could JJ have sensed that flat out, looking ahead at the guy who was about to tackle him. For him the right option was to pass to the unmarked man on his right.

All's well that ends well as William said, but this could easily have been a botched scoring chance. Look at Willie's run late in the game where he is forced to pass inside to Kirchner, who in this instance is gobbled up.

i thik jj did a good job on the kirchner try. he looked and saw that he had missiles on either flank and could send it any way he wanted. the willie situation was different. willie got isolated and passed when he should have chipped to create more pressure and keep the wallabies moving backwards. but i get your point though.

Wrong, JJ jinks to the right to give the impression he is going wide, that was enough to have the defenders keep going wide.......and JJ slips the pass inside perfectly and Kirchner goes in unmarked........quality play by JJ......simple but clever

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahaaaaaaaa!!!!

Aren't you tired of making an arse of yourself, Stupid?

Huh??  Day in and day out ... the same hilarious stuff ... over and over again!!!

Contradicting yourself from post to post. Sometimes all in the same hour. It's like you can't remember what bullshit you fed us a moment ago.

It’s a son of a bitch keeping track of all those lies, hey Stupid?!! Thing is I’d have thought being a lawyer and all, you’d have it down pat …

Maybe it’s cause you burnt holes in your brain with all that shit your sniffing ... huh? Is that the cause of all these hallucinations??

"Sniffffffffffffffff ... Snoooooooooooooooort!!!!"

"Wait a moment ... was that a jink I just ... hmmm ... nope ... my mistake he's running straight ... there's no one to jink past ... (Stupid wipes the booze induced sleep out of his eyes with his puke stained handkerchief) ... “what the hell ... that sure looked like a ... oh ... fraid not ... still no one around to jink past ... still running straight ... must be the excess gas blurring my vision” … mutters the drunk as he scratches his crotch through his yellow stained underpants which he dressed himself in last week.

“Damn!!!! That brilliant cancercunt’s going to rip me a new one… again … "

"Wait … I know … I’ll just keep arguing the point … no matter what … yeah let’s do that …"

That has to be the most subtle jink ever. All I see is a guy passing off his right foot. If I were to critique all this, I'd say JJ unnecessarily ran wide. Look at where he gets the ball, two paces inside the lineout marker, and by the time he passes he is on that line. No need to yield that space when running through open field.

Passing inside was not the low risk option. But my own guess is he was not aware of where Willie was. Kirchner by contrast was ahead of him and shouted to him to go as you can see in the clip. He was locked in on Kirchner from the start is my guess.

It's all fine, JJ executed without hesitation, Kirchner played his part and showed good gas.....but the try belongs to Jean who created it.

Definitely ... once again Jean shows his magic.

We would be at a complete loss without him.

He has upped his game ... improved his fitness and pace ... his captaincy is superb ... he creates something out of nothing ... never thought I'd say this ...but I'm truly a big fan. How can I not be? The man's proven me w rong

Mozart

Still forgetting about or ignoring De Jongh's record in tests last year.   Shall I remind you about  it AGAIN.

*   Did he or did he not buggered up an excellent try scoring opportunity in the test against the Wallabies in Pretoria?   He without a doubt did.

*   Here are the stats for the Murrayfield and Twickenham tests AGAIN:-

Did he or did he not knock on the first ball passed to him in the Murrayfield test and did he do anything constructive after that?

Did he in fact do anything at all in the Twickenham test?  You said he had no trouble opposite Tuilagi - but during the whole game he tackled Tuilagi only once - for the rest he was hiding away and other players had to tackle Tulagi.  His other two tackles were against other players,   His stats for Twickenham look like those of a bench player on the field of play for 10  minutes - what did he do for the other 70 minutes?   Nothing.   He was never in his proper place to receive a pass from the backline - always hiding away on the other side of the field where the ball would never go - and Kirchner had to take passes because he was absent from the backline.

Don't you think it is not highly dangerous to play a player like that in tests?  Now please answer honestly and stop the generalizations.

Also in Super 15 - why did De Jongh miss 25% of all attempted tackles if he did not have problems with virtually every opposing 13?

Why do you persistently ignore the above facts and come out with generalized statements without any prove whatsoever?

Please to be logical and straightforward provide reasonable answers to the above statistical facts.   If not I accept and so should others - that your prejudice is so clear that it is better to ignore the rubbish you write  about De Jongh

Mike i hate to burst your bubble but de jongh had excellent games on the eoyt especually against england. you guys were under the pump for practically the entire game and he never caved in. de jongh is one of the best backline defenders in south africa easily. and in case you hadnt known the backline in general failed to fire because of ruan and lambie. in northern conditions thats tough to get a running game going. the stats you post dont prove much of what you want to say.

Ihi

Sorry to tall you that I saw nothing of De Jongh in the Twickenham test and wondered why.  I then watched the game again and found out he was "hiding" on the opposite side of the field from where the ball was logically going to go.   I then went and looked at the ESPN stats and they confirmed my findings.

Can you not read the above stats - he got the ball once and passed it.  For the rest when the ball went down the backline - it a passed to Kirchner, because De Jongh was absent.   In fact the ball was passed 6 times to Kirchner - so De Jongh would have had ample opportunities to do something if he was onlty present where he was supposed to be.

During the whole game he made exactly 3 tackles.   Trouble was - he never caved in - because he was not where he should have been and could consequently not do anything at all.   In other words he went AWOL.

In the absence of any real attacking abilities and his tendency to knock on balls and lose possession in tackle situations - De Jongh was always punted as an excellent defender with very good tackling abilities.   If we was indeed such a good defender - would he have missed out on 25% of all tackles he attempted this year in Super 15.   Fact is he was the poorest defending 13 in any SA team in Super 15 his year.

I am sorry to burst your bubble - but the above are irrefutable facts.   Why does Mozart go quiet after punting De Jongh so enthusiastically all the time when confronted with the above?   Because he knows it is factual info and is hard to argue against .

Your enthusiasm about De Jongh's defence has unfortunately NO FOUNDATION - end of story.

Mike England didn't target hi because he is probably the most secure defender in that backline! they actually targetted lambie! pretty simple stuff. theres also the fact that the stormers have been having defensive problems in general. iof you look at the stats im pretty sure you will see that their defence was not as effective as previous seasons. probably due to personnel and opponents getting to grip with them better. it happens. you cut de  jongh a pretty hard deal mike. your pretty matter of fact about stuff you cant really prove and pin too much on individuals you dont like. its really shortsighted. in the end the fact is that de jongh was a rock on defence on the eoyt and that under severe test of the bok defence. the england test was the sternest test you guys have faced! and whether or not he made lots of tackles he made all of his tackles and if he was so weak the entire system would have failed.

Ifi

Can't you not read - De Jongh was constantly out of position - so nobody could target him.

Generalizations aplenty - then please explain to me if he was such a good defender - how did he miss 25% of all the tackles he attempted in Super 15 this year.    All players miss tackles - but about 15% is the maximum percentage of missed tackles that is acceptable.   25% is absolutely unacceptable and a disgrace as well.

Just another bubble to be pricked - in the Twickenham test you are trying to justify him - Lambie - the so-called weak defender - made 12 tackles - missing 1 - and De Villiers made 7 - missing none.  De Villiers and Lambie had to cover for De Jongh's tackles as well - because he was constantly out of position - nowhere to be found.

When a team is under the cosh - a player contributes his maximum - not his minimum as De Jongh did that day.   I have seen enough of his defence this year to realize that his reputation to be a good defender is a myth - the man is just not a test level player and there are even question marks if he is a Super 15 level player.

Meyer has a problem though - he has to contend with BEE - and that is why De Jongh is in the squad - nothing else.   If he is on the field of play any time against the AB's - they are going to run over him like he is not even there - same as what happened in the Cryusaders Super 15 game - when he attempted 10 tackles - made 8 and missed 2.   Only thing is - he would be up against a better center than he was when hey played the Crusaders in Cape Town and the results would be much worse.   Something like the Cheetahs game in Bloemfontein- where he attempted 8 tackles and missed 4 of those playing opposite Sadie of all players.

Try again - generalizations won't help

Saffex: "There was nothing brilliant about Jean's pass......it was aregulation long pass......the same we see at school level"
Comparing School level to test level is delusional- This is far worse than comparing Vodacom or even Curry Cup to to test level.
Anyone decent player can stand out at the lower levels.
Also, Australia is traditionally  one of the best backline's in the world rugby, it not the local pub team.
That is another problem that Saffex has. He compares young players at junior level to experienced players playing at the highest level. Most youngster will never even get a test cap, let alone go on to be a Springbok great.

Dont you get tired of arguing the same point for about 11 months mike. Nobody is say de jongh is a world beater. Folks just acknowledge that he is a solid selection in present circumstances. Forget about last year's EOYT. De jongh has been solid at currie cup level except for the griquas clash. Let it go!

Oom you sound like you have forgotten your medication again. These end of the year matches were slim pickings for our backs. Nonetheless de Jongh beat two tacklers in 4 runs agains Scotland. JJ has beaten no tacklers in 3 tests and 12 runs! Juan made seven of his eight tackles in these games.

You drone on about him making no metres against the Poms. He got the ball once in the game....once you old bore....and passed. Jean got the ball only five times passed twice (presumably once to de Jongh ) ....and made 12 metres.

So stop making a fool of yourself and stop raising this point, I'm sick of explaining it to you.

Mike you are correct re De Jongh. He did squat overseas - it was as if he was not playing. He has not shown anything special at Super 15 level etc. Allende is a better bet.  Unless something changes De jongh's test career is over - not good enough. May make abetter wing.
Personally I have no doubt that JJ has pace. He has been a bit quiet at times.

Ihi

For me it was a mystery while he was always out of position - especially when the play was for instance nearly on the sideline he was between the sideline and the play - within 2 meters from the wing on that side.   The English never attacked on that side of the maul or line out - yet De Jongh was there and not covering his normal position as a 13.    One could undertand when the play was near the middle of the field - but that was mostly not the case and he was always on the side where attacks would not have been logical and never occurred.  If you have an opportunity try and look at that game again and you will get a clearer picture of what happened.

When the ball was won by the Springbks - the backline move was from Lambie to De Villiers, then to Kirchner and since there was no De Jongh there was no overlap or any space for either Kirchner or the wings and the moves died as a result.

Even Mozart admitted that he was never in position to defend or attack from where he was.   The end result was that he did virtually nothing at all in the Twickenham game as is supported by the match stats.

However, what is more disturbing even was his poor defence this year in Super 15 - he was far too often a serious defence liability and the Stormers suffered as a result - losing matches they should have won.  Between him, Aplon and Pietersen there was a virtual sieve insofar as defence was concerned.

Sorry - but his defence this year was a bad joke - and the myth of hi m being a strong defender has been shattered.

Thats the beauty of it, its a little jink that offsets the defender.......thats what its about, its a slight jink before the pass, a perfect pass to his wrong side.

As for Jean's pass, have just checked that again and that is as standard as they come, nothing brilliant about it at all. It was a good long pass..........a basic requirement of any 10 and 12.

And going inside was perfect, allowing Kirchner a free run under the posts. Great set up by JJ and started with Jean.

Dejong is a decent player, but he is not test level. I would classify him as a quota selection when he is included in the bok squad. Their are certainly other players that are better- like Johan Sadie, or Ebersohm could can cover inside and outside center. Delande is also an option but given how limited game time in the SuperXV he has due to Dejong, he has probably not done enough to prove he is test level. Not sure if he has the brains yet, or the passing skills. He is strong in the tackle so could develop his offloads, early days.
With Jean, JJ and Serfontein the top3, Ebershohm would be the ideal backup if one of these players were injured.

Agreed, at test level de Jongh is nothing more than a quota player, for there is no way he merits selection.
You don't select an 87kg player at outside centre at test level.
Ebersohns form has taken a huge dive since early on in the S15
Howard Mnisi of Griquas looks a great prospect and de Allende deserves a crack as a back-up to Jean, JJ and Serfontein.
I would much rather see de Allende on the bench ahead of the average de Jongh

Bosch was not his man. JJ cant produce something from nothing, he needs his inside centre to start creating space for him to run off......that is not happening. No test 13 is going to do much with no ball in space or receiving most of his ball in traffic.......ask Ashley-Cooper, Smith and Bosch......which of them have been better than JJ........not a single one.

Smith has made the side of the week every week as he has had marginally more to do than the others. To say he has stood out would be a far stretch.

JJ has done well in space and crossed the advantage line in traffic......more than that he cannot do.......what more do you expect him to do really?

For the record, what the hell has Jean done that is noteworthy....he too has been solid and thats it.......its the nature of test rugby

So what tackles have these other 13's been beating..............are you saying that Joubert never went through a few tests having not beaten a tackle.......when last did Conrad Smith beat a tackle, unless you count him running around Jannie.

When last did Ashley-Cooper beat a tackle in a test?

The game has moved on somewhat since O'Driscoll's early days......as an experienced player in the modern game he has struggled to make an impact.........why, because defences are so structured and centres find themselves in traffic most of the time.

So Moz, given the last test against Oz is fresh in our memories, what exactly should JJ have done differently in the times he received the ball??

 Saffex

That  pass as you say is a "basic requirement" yet that type of pass is a rarity and seldom made.   De Villiers drew in two defenders before making the pass - that is why it was a top pass.

Sorry - in your continuous efforts to always run down the performances of De Villiers - you really has made a misjudgement in this case.

Om "Boots & All" tonight all of Justin Marshall, Mitchell and Bubby Skinstad praised the pass as brilliant and it was also specially mentioned as excellent on the New Zealand rugby programme Re-Union.

Absolute balls - you do not look at where the two Wallabies players in opposition was going.  De  Villiers ran a number of strides and then passed the ball.

Sorry Saffex - but in this case you are alone as a detractor of De Villiers.   But then - that is to be expected from you - as long a you can run down De Villiers and other players you do not like as much s possible you will stop at nothing and everybody else is wrong.

Actually Dave in their  last 3 tests JJ has beaten no tackles, Jean has beaten 8, Conrad Smith 3 and A Cooper 1. I repeat Jean 8, JJ zero.

What should JJ do. Well he should get more involved and anticipate the flow of play better. But he also needs to work on beating the tackle. Hell 12 runs are enough to surely beat two or three tackles, dontcha think? Serfontein for example in eleven runs has beaten two tacklers, disappointing, I know, but better than none in 12.

JJ has had a totally forgettable RC so far apart from the blow out game against the Bargies. The clock is ticking.
