That's not my point, the fact he went looking for more money is not an issue. CJ clearly stated in an interview with a SA rugby mag early on in his Munster days that he was open to playing for SA if approached.......he never was.....missed opportunity by an out of touch coach

I don't think he's useless, just changed the parameters of the thread name to suit the truth. The whole reason it seems that Meyer hasn't picked Stander is because he's playing abroad, if he stayed in SA Meyer would have picked him.

We're open but it's obvious Meyer picks homebased players first except when there's experienced players involved. Plus there's so many looseforwards that are just as good if not better than him that it would be justifiable if Meyer left him out based on merit.

If indeed as was mentioned above Stander captained the Junior Boks in 2010 - in terms of international agreement he cannot play for Ireland - even if he is in Ireland for ten years. Playing for the Junior Springboks as far as I understand it makes it impossible for him to play in the test team for other countries.
I think the rules governing player movements were implemented in 2009 - but I may be wrong. I can remember Swiel saying he would not play for the Under 20's - since it would disqualify him for playing in a test team for any other country.
Can someone please clarify the issue in this regard.
Another issue is that before Stander departed for Ireland he was rarely used on Super 15 level (in 3 years he played in only 16 games most of which from the bench) while in the main he played Vodacom Cup rugby in 36 games. That I believe was the fault of Ludeke - not Meyer. It would be virtually impossible for Meyer to bring in a player with that record into the Springbok squad.
I did not know that Stander went to Oakdale Agricultural High School in Riversdale - if I did I would have been an all-out Stander supporter. Maybe he was influenced by Muller - who ended up playing for Ulster - another Oakdale ex-scholar.

Junior Boks only became our second team from 2012 onwards so CJ Stander qualifies for Ireland in 6 months.

The topic here is about CJ Stander. Lets face facts and that is that probably Stander saw a very small chance to make the Springbok side against formidable opposition and decided to rather go to where competition would be less.
At the time of his departure he was in fact not the first choice loosie at 7 or 8 of Ludeke and his playing timer at Super 15 level was comparatively restricted.
Before he could be selected at 8 - he had to get past Vermeulen and Spies. Since then Whiteley came on the scene as well. Then there was also Arno Botha who are can also play at 8. So the chances of Stander getting ahead of the string of players mentioned for 8 was rather remote.
From his perspective ahead of him at 7 was also an array of players like the Useless Willem Alberts (who should not be ahead of anyone - but a Meyer favourite at the time), Schalk Burger, Lappies Labuschagne, Jacques Potgieter and Arno Botha. So that position was also rather blocked from Stander's perspective - especially since the other players were first choice Super 15 players and his Super 15 appearances was in the main from the bench and rather limited.
For Meyer to just pick a player like that would not be reasonable. Stander could have made a better name for himself if he was allowed by Ludeke to play more extensively on Super 15 level than he in fact did. So if anybody is to blame in this case it is not Meyer - but Ludeke.
The latter is presiding over an ever-increasing exodus of players from the Bulls franchise and my feeling is Ludeke's "verkrampte" selection of players is the reason for that. The younger Bulls have a consequential lack of faith in improved career-opportunities for them and they see no way to establish and develop their careers at the Bulls. Stander is one of a string of such players and that string is getting longer and longer by the week.

You missed out what I am trying to say - as long as Stander was not the first choice 7 or 8 of the Bulls his career would never have taken off and there was no way that Meyer would have looked at him. He had two choices, namely to go to another SA franchise - where he would have been the first choice 7 or 8 - thus bringing him in line for Springbok selection - or to go to a NH club.
He obviously took the second route and it would have been very difficult for Meyer to select him based on that situation. I think you are blaming the wrong coach here - the donkey brain in this case was primarily Ludeke.

Yep and according to Meyer. Added bonus with Whiteley is that he actually wants to play for the Boks and has shown a lot more loyalty compared to CJ, who has turned his back on the country at the first opportunity.
