After watching the game between Ireland and Italy - I tend to agree that the quarterfinals will be between the teams listed by Dave. Ireland was pathetic tonight and that is no good a sign insofar as their game against France is concerned.
The team selection for the quarterfinal will determine the outcome. We lost the last game against Wales because our Tight 5 capitulated. So if players like Matfield and Jannie is in our team we are going to be dead meat in that quarterfinal. Maybe some sanity will prevail. Subject to the above prerequisite iro of team selection should be as follows:-
Oz vs Scotland
Boks vs WalesNZ vs IrelandFrance vs Argies

For what we've seen this year, the QF:
Australia-Scotland
Ireland-Argentina
All Blacks-France
South Africa-Wales
The semis:
Australia-Argentina
All Blacks-South Africa (only coz Wales have 8 injuries in the backline)
and the final:
All Blacks-Australia (even Argentina could be the great surprise of the tournament and play the final)
All Blacks win

Here's a cute story. My brother is an oncologist and was seeing Japanese patient. To be nice he asked them if he knew Japan had beaten South Africa. Knowing he was South African....the Japanese chappie bowed a few times and all he said was:" so sorry". He apparently thought they had offended. We do have a tough time talking to each other sometimes.

It wont happen though and rightly so......handy but not one of the top 8 in the game.
England have been the unfortunate losers, thanks to a poor pool system.....but Japan should not feature in the last 8

yeah, and they deserve it, they are playing one of the most interesting and intelligent rugby of the comp, very well estructured with good set pieces but very fast at the same time. Eddie Jones has done a great job.
They had just a lapsus the last 30 minutes against the Scottish. And this was due only to their schedule, they had to play South Africa and Scotland, the strongests of the pool, in 4 days time. If they had had to play the weakest of the pool after the 4 day-rest, as the tier one teams had, things probably would have been diferent.
But now they depend on thirds, they have 8 points while Scotland have 10. If Scotland win to Samoa they'll be out. I cannot see Samoa, who are playing crap and need a coach, beating Scotland.
If they don't classify they'll be the unluckiest of this WC

It all depends on Meyer getting bis tactics. right. We saw our backs ripping the hapless wee abs apart. However ou Meyer justy wants to crash the ball up midfiled. He has gone back to the larger. To win you have to score tries and we have the backline to do that. He needs Beeno famed balanced approach.
We also need matfield sent home NOW.
Meyer needs to hand Malherbe a start versus USA and may as well give Trevor one as well.Have the first team players on the bench etc
We should beat Wales and there is no reason we wont beat the wee abs - our second string were significantly better. That done the RWC is ours to lose.
What worries me is Meyer playing 100 % predictable rugby. That must change and also wee matfield must not be in the 23 man squad. He is a complete disaster.

Meyer has not merely been using simple crash balls, far from it. It's a balance between the forwards and backs building momentum. Dominating the middle of the field and splitting our backs either side, Willie or Pollard at first receiver. Nice little ploys. We do lack players who can take advantage of the opportunities that the gameplan presents. We blow a lot of overlaps, or 2v1 or 3v2 situations. The gameplan puts the players in these situations, but can't compensate for their inability to capitalise on those chances. That's where I disagree with Meyer's critics. So much play runs through Willie because our centres are limited. Instead of 12 or 13 bringing our back three into the game, it's the other way around. Then these critics wonder why we have problems. Blame the fan favourites who are incapable if playing senior level pro rugby!

Moz, picking Japan ahead of Scotty is a calculated risk, but for the rest, most punters would agree, so not really putting anything at risk.

OK, Moz, you call it your prediction. Either way, SA will in all probability need to beat both NZ and Oz to win this thing, tall order, but impossible it's not.

How many times were we told when the WC 31 were announced that the Boks wouldn't make it past the QF's? Now everyone has them at least going to the semi's.
