The following from news24:-

" Injured Springbok and Sharks lock Pieter-Steph du Toit is already hard at work to push for a full recovery in June.

Du Toit suffered a massive blow in March when he was sidelined with a serious knee injury (anterior cruciate ligament tear) following the Sharks’ 27-10 victory over the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein.

An early prognosis suggested that the 22-year-old would be out for the rest of the year, ruling him out of World Cup selection in September.   However, following surgery, he received some good news from his doctor, who believes he can return to full match fitness by June.

Du Toit was delighted, calling the update a “miracle” on Twitter, which received a huge response from players and fans.    He’s now hoping to play in the Sharks’ final Super Rugby league match against the Stormers in Durban on June 13.

“The injury came at bad time. After four games, I was building some good form. I was happy with my performance against the Cheetahs, until I hurt my knee just before half-time,” Du Toit toldMyPlayers.co.za.

“Now I have to prove myself. I’ve had to ice up my knee for a while after surgery, which kept me off my feet, but I returned to the gym for rehab last week and I’m working hard.

“The fact that I can recover in time for the World Cup is truly a miracle. One day, I thought I’d miss out on an exciting year. A few days later, the doctor says I have a CHANCE of a full recovery by June. It’s been roller coaster ride of emotions, but I’m delighted with the chance to make the World Cup squad.”

Du Toit was included in Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer’s training groups in Johannesburg and Cape Town, which he’s excited about.    “The fact that I’ve been selected shows that there’s still belief in my recovery, which is great!” said Du Toit. “I can get all the information I need from the coaches, and they’ll TELL me what I need to do if I want to make the World Cup squad. Like I said, I’ll be working hard to earn my place.”

Du Toit also passed on a message of thanks to all the support he’s received over the past two months.   “To all the kind messages sent to me via the media and social media, I just want to let everyone know I appreciate it. It’s truly motivating and inspiring to know that there are many people backing me during this challenging time,” said Du Toit.  “The messages from players are also great, especially those from different teams. We might be opponents on the field, but it’s good to be friends off the field too.”

Mozart's BS allegations of "thin wrists and shoulders" are being dispelled by the photo that was with the article.   Have a look at the pic and see how much falsehoods that village idiot is spreading on this site.

You mean he'll hate it like you hated that pic of Albert's monstrous physique? A good squad player. A good player in general, but nothing special. However, he plays for the Sharks, where they don't like to get out of bed too early, work hard or be told what to do, and where the media never casts criticism. So I suppose I must bow down to the Shark pantheon of Gods and speak not the truth.

Lestat! Long time no see. Good to see you back.Yes, PSDT has still got it all to proof.  If he can manage to stay fit for a decent spell, he might realise his potential. Till then he will be a pipe dream.

Alberts is fat - Du Toit is not.   i assume that you are referring to the recent story of the coke-sniffer when you write about the training of the Sharks and wrote a string of BS to cover for Jake White.
By the way Du Toit is by some distance the best no 5 lock in SA at present.   That was clearly shown in the games he played in this year before his injury.

Mike, to be considered the best, you need to be able to string together more than 5 games on the trot. Like I said, player with lots of potential,  but he needs to prove that he is not injury prone. ATM he is looking more and more injury prone, in the same mold as Andries Bekker. Great player when fully fit, which is almost never by the start of test season.

Better not concentrate too much on the issue of injury-prone - because some of the established players are also injury-prone, but not graded as such.   Just think about dear Willem Alberts - how many matches has he played since June last year - and Fourie du Preez and Ruan Pienaar.
Problem is rugby is a game where injuries do occur and some players suffer injuries more than others.  The harder they play and the more they put into the game - the more likely is it that injuries would occur.   Loafers do not get injured as frequently as others do - and unfit players are more injury prone than others.    The older players get the more injuries occur as well.
I would like to see whether Du Toit could get out of the injury cloud as well.  He is an outstanding player fully applying all his talents to the game.  Hope he can overcome the present impression of people about the injury issue.

Mike, there is still hope! Jean de Villiers was plagued by injuries when he started playing for the Boks, and although injuries remained an issue with him throughout his career, there were enough injury free time for him to be counted as a Bok great. Let's hope PSDT can follow suit!

 Draad
Did you watch the serial about De Villiers recovery from his latest injury that was screened repeatedly on channel 201?
There is something about players - which is more important than their physicality and that is there dedication to the game.  That was always and is the most important personality trait of De Villiers and there are signs of a similar approach on the part of Du Toit.
They give their all for the team they play for and that is more important than anything else in a team sport.

The Steph hoopla is festooned with great puffs of hot air. He has played one significant game....a CC final two years back. Since then he staggers from injury to injury. And when quite well this year he was handily outplayed by Matfield....as agreed by everybody except Moronic and a few other Stephanie groupies.

This "keep the WC dream alive" thing is just a little presumptious, there is no evidence he is among our top 5 locks.

I have stopped judging you by any standard other than you are a hate-filled BSter - a liar and  the worst contributor ever on this site.  The f#ckwit keeps on repeating the rubbish written by one journalist about Matfield outplaying Du Toit in that one match.
Here is the stats on that match:-
Matfield0/100/4/76000110/01/110/0
PS du Toit0/000/2/828121015/46/010/0 If taking one line-out on own throw and one on opposition throw means out-playing Du Toit then that is where it stops - Du Toit took 6 line-outs Matfield ball carries was non-existent and his ball possession loss was typical of his performance - a lock moonlighting in the backline.
Fact is there is ample evidence that Matfield is NOT one of the 10 top-performing locks in SA since he turns the Tight 5 into a Tight 4 situation, because he is constantly moonlighting in the backline.   That was disastrous in the EOYT last year and will be disastrous in any future tournament involving the Springboks.

The evidence is clear in the eyes of people who know their rugby.   Matfield is -
*  causing the total malfunctioning of forward play by turning the Tight 5 into a Tight 4 situation - his contribution to forward tight play borders on the non-existent;
*   his main present contribution to line-out play consists of calling line-outs to go to other players - his own contribution in line-out takes is getting very low and when he did call line-outs to come to him in crucial situations he flopped;
*   his tackles stemmed virtually all from his constant moonlighting in the backline and are weak and ineffective; and
*   he constantly give away penalties - because of hanging onto balls when he tries to carry balls or in the rare event where he does become involved in maul situations.
Fact is he is physically deficient - a 105 kg player trying to compete with 120 kg players.

I also need to point out yet again that weight/size does not equal strength. Strength is the ability to exert tension which is controlled by your central nervous system. What all everyone gushes over is sacroplasmic hypertrophy which is what bodybuilders train for. An increase in the muscle cell fluid sacroplasm. Myofibrillar hypertrophy is dense increase of muscle fibre which contract and generate tension. In short, you can be beastly strong without gaining significant size. So the argument for weight being a determiner of strength is flawed and unscientific, you'll need to try harder to prove your point.
E dit: I just did a quick search and found in 2008 victor could bench 155kg, I know that CJ benched 180kg around that time.

Taking tackles while moonlighting in the backline is not hardworking - it in fact represents loafing by the player who is supposed to be a lock.
Matfield never really was a lock - his only function was that since he was so light in weight it was easy for support props in line outs to lift him and his whole reputation was basically based on line out takes and ball carries and making of tackles while moonlighting in the backline.   In traffic he was poor in carrying balls.   That was in his prime.
At present his reputation is still based on line-out takes, despite those becoming rarities and the same loose-forward stuff he did in the past.   Problem is he makes strings of weak tackles of really no substance.   His function in maul situations have been deficient in the past - at present it borders on the non-existent.  While young and more industrious - he did make some impact, his present impact is that of a way-past his sell-by date player.
Mozart loves to refer to Brad Thorne - but Thorne never was a 105 kgs bean stalk weakling.  The Matfield type of lock does not exist in top countries anymore and they regard his selection as a joke.
Time for this reputation loafer to go.   His presence in the WC squad will destroy our chances to get anywhere in that tournament.

Can you read the comments of even our own site members from New Zealand and Australia and you see what they think of Matfield.  He is widely regarded as a joke in those countries and in NH countries.  The coaches will not say it publicly - why should they do so?  They would not because Meyer might change to another lock and that will strengthen the Springbok Tight 5 from a Tight 4 to a Tight 5.
Fact is that Matfield weakens the Springbok team and the opposition teams are delighted by that.

The performance of the Springbok Tight 5 took a nosedive when Matfield came on Board and that was evident in the tests he played in during the Welsh tour last year, in the RC in the tests he played in and in the EOYT last year.   After all we lost 4 of the last 9 tests against major test-playing countries and Matfield was in all of those - when in the case of the lost tests the major problem was the Tight 4 we used as a result of the useless Marfield making up the one lock position could not contain the opposition Tight 5 .
He nearly cost us the Ellis Park test in 2014 as well - since he lost a line-out on own throw near the end of the game and the AB's as a result scored a try.  The other test in Perth was also lost because Matfield fumbled a line out throw in the last few minutes of the game - destroying a chance near the Aussie line to form a driving maul.  Two major bugger ups by him - the one costing us victory despite the BS of Morne Steyn in Perth, the other one saved by a miracle Lambie penalty kick at Ellis Park.

Matfield is the biggest liability in the current Bok side........his inclusion ahead of at least 10 locks in SA at present is a joke.

The guy is not physically up to it anymore......taking the odd line out ball, making the odd open field tackle or joining the line to make a pass is not what you want in a modern day lock.......not a lightweight one at that

When we are talking about Matfieldm then Matfield gets the blame for the performance of the tight five and Jannie du Plessis becomes some unseen ghost that is somewhere in the background.
When we talk about Jannie du Plessis, Matfield becomes some unseen ghost somewhere in the background.
When we talk about Marcel van der Merwe, he becomes the culprit with JdP and  Matfield the unseen ghosts.
Now let us get to one point that you have been avoiding like the plague, ou Maaikie. On what exactly do you base your opinion that Matfield's presence has reduced our tight five to a tight four? You have been asked this on numerous occasions but you have never once been able to come up with a plausible explanation.

You are really deficient in thinking.  There was a penalty kick to the corner - with the obvious intention to form a driving maul.  Matfield could not catch the ball thrown to him and just managed to slap it back to the scrummie who was under pressure.
The Springboks did not lose the line-out ball - but the obvious intention of a driving maul went out of the window.
Before you concoct lies about me - just think about your deficient understanding of the game first  and start learning about the game - you old dunce.

"He fumbled a lineout throw"  was your claim. Now you say he tapped it back. The stats say we won all of our lineouts. There was no lineout near the Aussie line at the end of of the test...at the end of the test Steyn was kicking from near our line, after which Oz ran in the try.

So lets just check out Detritus.....here is the match report from S tatsguru. Nope no reference to any failed attempt to form a maul in the last 10 minutes....the only reference to a maul was a formed, but slow maul at minute 72.

I'm afraid its another Moronic lie.

69

Wallabies win a lineout and Scott Higginbotham makes great ground with a fierce run in the loose. We imagine Greg Growden might have something to say on Monday.

70

Lovely half-break from Matt Toomua, but Duane Vermeulen just holds on. Crucial tackle with Wallabies immediately conceding a penalty. Interesting for Wallabies that Kurtley Beale remains on the bench.

72

South Africa mauling and rucking slowly deep in Australia territory, clearly playing for a penalty, but they infringe with hands in the ruck.

73

Israel Folau increasingly involved in a range of positions, and looking dangerous. Wallabies on attack with Kurtley Beale putting Tevita Kuridrani into space.

74

Wallabies go back right, and Michael Hooper held up short. Wallabies rucking on 2m. Springboks penalised for offside, and Wallabies tap and go.

75

Wallabies go right and have numbers but Kurtley Beale comes back inside. Great defence, but you wonder if the Wallabies decision-making was off there. South Africa win penalty but fail to find touch.

7722 - 23

Walabies come left through Bernard Foley, Kurtley Beale, Israel Folau and Tevita Kuridrani, and Rob Horne steps inside to score. Great try.

7824 - 23

Bernard Foley making a habit of this.

79

Kick-off doesn't go 10, but Wallabies collect and go through the phases to play out the game.

80

Wallabies celebrate as if they've won the World Cup. A win is a win, and they scored 10 points while Bryan Habana was controversially sin-binned.

I described the exact detail of what happened.  Instead of Matfield catching the ball to start a rolling maul - which was the obvious intention of the whole play - he fumbled it by not catching it and slapping it back inaccurately to the scrummie - that killed the whole play.
That staatsguru play did not mention what preceded the ruck mentioned in minute 72 dunce - and the fact that you do take an abridged version of the game description as gospel showed your real stupidity.  The rug followed the following sequence dofdoos:-
*   Kick penalty for corner with a view to forming a driving maul;*   Matfield f#cked up the line - ball passed and a ruck formed - penalty given away.   The deadhead should have watch ed the game - but as per normal it went straight over his head.

Given how pap ou victor is one wonders if Meyer will awake from his fantasy. Its crucial the show pont departs and doesnt go the the RWC. My sympathies to the Bulle pack having to carery this show pony and see him getting the accolades from the groupies. I can only wonder how poor Bakkies feels. He did all the graft and we matfiled managed to deflect attention to himslf. An amazing con artist to be sure.
Away with wee victor a disas ter for the Boks and bulle who would be so much better off without him.
