Naiyaravoro on fire as World XV beat Japan

 Glasgow Warriors-bound Taqele Naiyaravoro scored a hat-trick as an invitational World XV beat Japan 45-20 in Tokyo.

Naiyaravoro, who could yet find himself in Australia's Rugby World Cup squad, was one of half a dozen Wallabies hopefuls allowed game time by Michael Cheika.

And the Fiji-born rugby league convert did not disappoint as he put in a powerful all-round performance.

His trio of tries were backed up by two scores from veteran New Zealand No.9 Andrew Ellis, while Berrick Barnes kicked 18 points and replacement Mike Harris added a second-half conversion.

Japan struck early through Karne Hesketh and were also awarded a penalty try, while Ayamu Gomaru added two penalties and a conversion, and Harumichi Tatekawa a conversion.

...why didn't he play like this in the Super XV compo I wonder after another hattrick in preseason he was just average...wondering whether he's kicking himself now for not playing for Fiji instead of Oz seeing the Aussies may not want him..

 ...This weekends games will have given the Aussie coach plenty to think about as I see fifteen Australians were included in that World XV match squad.

 Wallabies fringe players Lealiifano, Cummins, Naiyaravoro and McMahon were released from the Aussie squad preparing for Saturday's Bledisloe Cup decider in order to get some valuable playing time..

They were also included in almost all of World XV coach Robbie Deans' entire starting backline - fullback James O'Connor, wingers Nick Cummins and Taqele Naiyaravoro, centres Ben Tapuai and Christian Lealiifano and five-eighth Berrick Barnes - alongside All Blacks halfback Andy Ellis.

Ex-Wallabies Benn Robinson and Liam Gill feature were in the pack alongside former All Blacks Andrew Hore, Carl Hayman, Ali Williams and Adam Thomson and ex-Springboks Bakkies Botha and Pierre Spies.

All but one of the bench players were also Australian - Tolu Latu, Ben Alexander, Luke Jones, Sean McMahon, Luke Burgess, Mike Harris and Dom Shipperley.
